shows a way to get a steam game (specifically L4D2) for 30$ which is 40% off.

In case anyone hasn't noticed, Steam is having an Early Holiday Sale. Myself, I'm very tempted by the Lucas Arts Premium Pack. I do own quite a few of those titles already, of course, but for various consoles rather than PC, and it would be nice to not have to fire up my old xbox just to play KotOR again. On the other hand, none of those games are supported under Windows 7, and quite a few don't even support Vista. Oh well, there are always work-arounds I suppose.

How I wish there was a proper RSS feed for all Steam deals. But it's easy enough to check in Wednesdays and Fridays.

Waiting for Lego Star Wars to go on sale, myself.

I was going to buy Dragon Age when it went on sale, but then I realised I would still be getting it cheaper when I bought it from Direct2Drive UK, who are, incidentally, having a Thanksgiving sale.

Osmos is on offer for £2 at the moment. Get it. It's fantastic.

I already bough Dragon Age and Batman, so I think my immediate future is in no need of more games, thank you very much! Although the rediculously low price is a mitigating factor, I don't think I need another game unless it's spectacular. The thq package is tempting, but I think I own too many of the titles already to justify it. Maybe if the deal was there before I had gotten Saint's row...

Also, w00t, 1000th post! Level up!

I'm tempted to buy Fallen Earth... I went through it logically and decided I should buy it because I've been following it's development for years, really want to play it, it's cheaper than it's ever gonna be anywhere else and even though I've vowed not to play any new games until my exams are over, I can just keep it and not install it until I allow myself to. I don't even have to make my account until I'm ready! But I can't quite bring myself to buy it. It's a whole £15!

...I'm really tight.

Unlike me, who just bought the THQ pack despite already owning four of the games in it >.>

Well worth it though, even from what little I've played of company of heroes and red action gorilla so far. Titan Quest seems pretty good so far too, despite my not liking Diablo-esque games much.

I really want to buy the THQ pack, I really do. But I know I won't be given extra copies of Company of Heroes + Expansions, Dawn of War + Expansions, Dawn of War 2, Red Faction's, S.T.A.L.K.E.R., or Saint's Row 2. The games left in the pack are more than $50 combined, but... I'd really feel like I'm getting ripped off by not getting those extra copies. We really need to get Valve to do something about that.

So I bought it. With 45 minutes to spare. I'm regretting it... even though I know that I made the right decision. I guess it might be this business that I'm doing of buying games when they're cheap and then not playing them... kind of feels like I'm wasting money.

Maaaan, my hatred of spending money makes it really difficult to have stuff.

EDIT: Ok, read the manual. Regret has morphed into excitement.

New Sales:

Left 4 Dead 2: £22.49 (nicely done valve)
Knights of the Old Republic: £1.74 (you really do want to wring every last penny out of me, don't you?)
Mini Ninjas: £14.99
Dead Space: £7.49
Cities XL Limited Edition: £17.49
Madballs in Babo: Invasion: £2.00
Majesty 2: £6.24

And in Euro because fuck me I guess:
Left 4 Dead 2: 37.49 (nicely done valve)
Knights of the Old Republic: 2.24 (you really do want to wring every last penny out of me, don't you?)
Mini Ninjas: 19.99
Dead Space: 9.49
Cities XL Limited Edition: 24.49
Madballs in Babo: Invasion: 2.00
Majesty 2: 9.99

I wonder if Majesty 2 is worth trying... And I'm tempted to buy Kotor simply because the game I have sitting on my shelf crashes when I try to play it. The steam version might *worK*.

There's a demo of madballs you can try. It's okay, I guess.

Okay, so I bought Left 4 Dead 2 as well >.> It's actually alright, even if the font for the menu is stupidly huge and the pistol takes up 1/4 of my screen. Red Fashion Gorilla continues to be awesome, especially for relieving stress, SMASH!

These steam sales are going to bankrupt me.

The THQ pack. I owns it.

Unfortunately, with it comes the proviso that I can't play any of the games included until the end of mocks... a week and two days away. Nooooo. Dow II... she calls to me with a siren song of "orks orks orks orks..."

Here's how I avoid temptation: first off, DON'T INSTALL IT. Secondly, collapse the "Not installed" section of the games list, then restart Steam to make sure it stays that way. Thanks to these two simple steps, I've lost forty-two pounds completely forgotten that I own ArmA 2. Out of sight, out of mind.

You're a giant among men, sir. Thanks. I should make it to friday afternoon with this stuff. It's weird- I bought it for CoH and DoW II mostly, cos it was about as much as DoW II anyway, but now I'm getting oddly excited about the Titan games and Red Faction and all those ones. Yay. It will be a good Christmas holiday.

I've yet to try L4D1, so I'm not interested in £5 less on the 'sequel'. Dawn of Wars I own already. Since £1.75 is less than my daily expenditure on stuff like lunch, I went for KOTOR. Might be nice to experience in advance of the future MMO.

That's right. Every time one of these sales rolls along there is at least one game among them that is totally worth buying and more than worth what they ask for it, so when that happens I have to ask myself whether or not I was in any way interested in this game in the first place. That's the thing about bargains, you think you're saving money by buying something discounted, but not if you weren't thinking of spending that money in the first place.

It's like there's this giant button in the Valve offices that says "Push Here To Make More Money". And there are big fights over who gets to push it.

Everyone everywhere is checking for new deals, here they are:

Resident Evil 5 £14.99     $24.99     €18,99
Order of War   £7.50      $9.99     €9,49
Borderlands     £20.09    $33.49     €33,49
Spore             £14.99     $19.99     €19,99
Left 4 Dead    £6.24     $7.49     €7,49
City of Heroes £4.99     $9.99     €7,49
Trine             £8.49     $9.99     €9,99

Ghostbusters: The Videogame $9.99

The store on the client is back up. Next sales: L4D -75%, Order of War -75%, Trine -50%, Borderlands -33%, Resident Evil 5 -50%, Spore -50% and City of Heroes: Architect Edition 50% off.

You should buy Borderlands so that I have more people to play with! And you shouldn't buy Resident Evil 5 if you're charged in euros cause D2D is offering it for 50% off too.

*ninja'd*

Somewhat tempted by L4D at £6.24. Is it good enough of a game to log on, find some random PUGs and play with, or is it only worth it, as the trailer says, with the team being a set of four friends?

Keep in mind they're going to be doing this all over again a month from now.

Still, Ghostbusters at $9.99 is sorta tempting. How's Trine?

Trine was on sale just a while ago. I thought I'd actually install the demo for that one before plunking down ten bucks for it.

LTK wrote:The store on the client is back up.
Psst - the store in the client is just IE loading steampowered.com . (And how I wish they would provide the option to switch to something other than IE - for some reason I can't even open new windows from the Steam client browser anymore. But then, it's their client, and I suppose it must be of great comfort to them to know that every potential source of money will see the site with exactly the same user experience.)

I was wondering why Steam couldn't display screenshots any more after I uninstalled Internet Explorer. They should really give you an option to link it to your default browser.

New offers:

EVE Online: Apocrypha -75%
Battlefield 2 Complete Collection -50%
Lucidity -75%
Trackmania United Forever -50%
Prince of Persia -50%
World of Goo -75%
Guild Wars Trilogy -50%

It's a bit pointless to offer World of Goo now that they've just had a pay-what-you-want sale, isn't it?

Can someone provide objective justification for not spending $2.50 on Lucidity? I've read the reviews, and it doesn't sound all that great, but how bad can something be before it becomes not worth $2.50?!

The really insidious part is if they offered a four-pack of Madballs, Osmos, Lucidity, and something else for $10, all at once, I could probably pass it up with much less hesitation.

LTK wrote:I was wondering why Steam couldn't display screenshots any more after I uninstalled Internet Explorer. They should really give you an option to link it to your default browser.
If Steam is still working on your computer at all, you haven't really uninstalled Internet Explorer. (Either that or you're using some flavor of WINE that can use the Gecko engine in place of IE.)

Resist! Resiiiiiist!
Ask yourself if you want to play the game and don't look at the price tag.
I fell for it, though. Re-bought KOTOR because the game crashes and I hope it won't crash when I get it through steam.

As I did not need the 20 fames in the £30 THQ games pack, I got the 2 I wanted from in the post for £20. :D
Still works out cheaper than the Steam offers. Got Mirrors Edge and RF: Guerilla.

Curses, apparently the whole Prince of Persia trilogy was on special yesterday, not just the fourth game - it just wasn't advertised!

Anyway, some good deals today:

Evil Genius - 2.49
Mirror's Edge - 5.00
Call of Juare: Bound in Blood - 20.99
The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena - 9.99
Quantz - 2.00
The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition - 2.49
Dawn of Discovery - 34.99
Section 8 - 24.99

That is a damn good deal on Mirror's Edge. $5 for a game that practically invented a genre is almost an automatic buy.

Unrelated: I am surprised Audiosurf hasn't been put on sale yet.

I was playing DoW I a few weeks ago and there are games up, sure. I assume CoH is also good, considering it hasn't had a sequel. DoW II will have a good following (possibly too good for not-totally-dedicated play) as will Red Faction: Guerilla. Iunno about the rest of then though.
