Please excuse the following outburst.

OMGOMG Oh me yarm I CAN"T BELIEVE IT Oh me yarm!!!!!!111ONE!

*ahem*

I think I wet my pants.

It looks like they're going for a more sci-fi feel. They've seized on the epic story elements that made the originals so popular and expanded on them, as you can tell from the music.

Needless to say, if there were a StarCraft MMO, I'd gladly pay an arm and a leg per month for it, even though I've evaded the call of WoW so far.

All I ask is that this comes out sometime at least two months away from any finals. Otherwise, I might as well just take the F's that semester now.

Also, the starcraft 2 trailer nearly made me wet myself

haha, if xkcd dudes start playing that, that'll give me a good reason to choose that game, over the many others that look cool also... I was trying to work out whether to play stargate, star trek or tabula rasa as an MMO... still dont know really.

Although, about starcraft 2....

So what? There are already plenty of good RTS games out there, and this looks nowhere near groundbreaking. And I never liked the protoss colour scheme...

Because I still enjoy playing StarCraft 1 over all the other available RTS', so a sequel, if it manages to imrpove upon the original will be even better.

Although I am looking forward to Halo Wars, an RTS on the 360 that isn't a port from the PC, so they can probably do some really original things with it.

Starcraft 1 Defense maps are by far the most enjoyable RTS games I've ever played, with DOTA trailing behind most of the SC defense maps.

I wonder what the RP potential for the stargate game is? I'm not terribly interested in playing if I'm going to be surrounded by retards spewing leetspeak and going on levelling runs....

Which is to say, if it's just going to be WoW SG-1, fuck it.

So what? There are already plenty of good RTS games out there, and this looks nowhere near groundbreaking. And I never liked the protoss colour scheme...

The starcraft storyline, aesthetics, and world please me. There was a time, long ago, when I would play that one map out of the protoss campaign over and over, just to listen to Zeratul verbally bitchslap Aldaris. I generally don't play these types of games online if I can help it anyway.

The stargare MMO is actually only partially combat focused. Important parts of it are solving puzzles and exploring like in the show and suchlike, cause the show was not really all about the combat mostly anyway.

LOTR online was fairly noob free, apart from the infinite variations of legolas as character names and I think stargate could be similar. Its in the Unreal engine 3 too, so that means they would have more time for actual content... (or so we would like to believe) The community from WoW doesn't switch MMOS often anyway.

I know starcraft 1 was a good game but its still just a game. People dont need to go ZOMGPROOFDEREISAGOD-STARCRAFT2-ZOMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG

True. But non-combat doesn't guarantee roleplaying. We shall see. I would just be happy if you can segment off servers.

Really, I just want to see NWN versions of other games like star wars and stargate. The type of thing where you can set up your own server and have wandering DMs to filter the riff-raff and provide stories.

pretty.

Those protoss are becoming more and more like eldar from 40k, right down to the craft worlds if I correctly interpretted one of the things in the art trailer.

It does look very shiny. I must say, I am very excited, but still wary, like I am of all sequels. If it's too much the same, why don't I just keep playing the original, if it is too different, well, I might not like it. Yes yes yes, I am fickle. Still, I'm going to have to go out and get a new PC to run this, making it one expensive game. It better be good.

I wonder if StarCraft2 is going to include a voucher to redeem some of your lost '98/'99 which was stolen by StarCraft? A highly addicting game plus a girlfriend kind of eats up all your time which you should be using to do other things, like study. I still distinctly remember getting told off for failing while I was playing StarCraft. Protoss 8, I think the campaign was. It was the Protoss one where you have Raynor in his Battlecruiser to rescue Tassadar from the stasis cell. I'd look it up, but I can't be bothered. Then I got told off for spending too much time playing games because I wasn't listening while I was getting told off. Ah, good times, good times.

Anyone else disappointed that Ghost disappeared? That looked quite promising.

i was slightly disappointed, yes.

but in the end i'm glad they stopped production on it, rather than giving us a game that we'd look back on with distgust.

(thinks about the FPS C&C game, it's name i won't even mention)

Yes, I suppose being teased a little is better than massive disappointment.

Hmm, I wonder, what would a raptor be like if it was assimilated into the swarm?

MY LIFE FOR AIUR.
YOU MUST CONSTRUCT ADDITIONAL PYLONS.
I HAVE RETURNED.
MY LIFE FOR AIUR.
MY LIFE FOR AIUR.
MY LIFE FOR AIUR.

And so on, ad infinitum.

I play defensive Protoss for some reason, I just like making huge bases with 3-4 lines of photon canons lining my base, but then when the other team has a big army I have absolutely NO money left, and none on the map. With no army and just heaps of cannons, and they just slowly whittle me away....

Which.. is why I stick to Income Defense Games (I fucking rape at these).

Edit: I wonder if they'll put in a way to stack like in SC1? Most of the defenses were so awesome because you could stack.

Once I finish this historical summary of calculus I am going to install star craft and brood war.

Point being, we should start an xkcd based clan or at least play some games!

and i'm liking the fact they're balancing in the classic starcraft fashion.

my ONLY contention is the Protoss Mothership, i really hope that this is an actual unit, rather than a superweapon (ala C&C).

Of course, the Firebat is totally going to yell "LEEEROOY JEEEEENKINS!" when you use stimpacks. Anything else would just be a letdown. (I totally just thought of this a while ago)

Also, Dark Templar are awesome. Hell, all Protoss are awesome. I think they should involve more females though. Until the female Dark Templar (Aldaris?) showed up, I was thinking that they were an asexual race!
