If you want it to do the sprint animation, click on the sprint ability on the building view, it should stretch its legs out and do a fast-run animation.

I HATE when my creature does not behave well in test-drive. I made a big ball with a giant eye and ~10 legs (http://www.spore.com/sporepedia#qry=srch-Dreggo ) and it just looks so weird when it walks around. I just wanna go back to the drawing board even though I'm satisfied by the appearance. I know it would drive me crazy in the game. I would not want anyone to see how weird it looks in their game!

Yeah, unfortunately, sprinting parts aren't available in the demo.

I'll probably end up buying the full version at some point, just cause it's so damn fun.

That reminds me of an ingress in an online norwegian games magazine:
"Maxis reports over 250 000 creatures made in Spore Creature Creator in just a day, and not all of them penises!"

Try adding unused joints? (or remove them)

Spore seems to have each of the N joints from the ground distinct purposes.

If you're in no rush to get the full version, you could order it alongside something else offa amazon for super saver shipping. This will give you 5 dollars off the full spore game if you ever get it.

I bought the copy from wal-mart on the way home. I played the demo on my GF's computer. Looking at the comparison, I'd say that if you're already spending 5+ hours on the demo and plan to spend more time on it, you'll enjoy the extras on the full thing. If someone played the demo once but does not seem to "get it," the full version won't exactly wow them.

Personally, I doubt I'll ever turn around 3 years later and yell "Ugh, I can't believe I spend 10 dollars on Creature Creator!" That quote is reserved for the 50 dollars on State of Emergency.

Has anyone found a way to remove the windows username from the creature save files? That is a VERY STUPID design decision. I would much rather be able to put a name there that might be recognized as mine.

I wonder if creating another user and using "Run As..." would at least work as a temporary workaround? I'll have to try that when I get home.

what ever is animating the creatures in the free demo ... is definatly not the same as what animates them in the game... honest.. the creature that robbin williams creates .. when he made the huge trunk like nose, when it was imported into the game it droped and was affected by gravity ... any creature i make like this isn't affected in the same way in the demo.. so hopefully the movement of the creatures will be better in the full version of the game also :) .

Keep in mind Mr. Williams was running a different build. I mean, at the time that video was made, I think the Tidal Pool sequence was still in the game.

They keep removing features to attempt to get the game out. The scope of the game keeps getting smaller.

Yes, they would downgrade the game. They already have. They continue to do so.

The gameplay itself had numerous changes during development. The most striking was the shift in realism, from the gritty depiction of cellular and animal life in the GDC 2005 debut, to the current iteration of a more round, softer edged depiction of the creatures. The most visible change was in the cellular phase, which transformed the monocellular organisms into strange insects with cartoonish, human-like eyes, which were used "to make it cute," according to Wright during the 2007 TED seminar.[3]

Another constantly changing aspect was the number of phases in the game. Initially, in 2005, the game consisted of six phases: Cellular, Underwater, Creature, City, Civilization, and Space. During the annual Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences DICE Summit on February 7, 2007, a slide was displayed (see image, right) which listed a total of eight phases. The Underwater phase had been removed, and Molecular was added (which was likened to Tetris), as was Tribal (likened to Populus). Furthermore, the Space phase was split into Terraform and Galactic phases; terraforming represented a limited form of power to slowly change planets within one's own system, whilst the galactic phase represented a more God-like power upon the acquisition of the interstellar space drive: being able to travel outside of one's solar system. The 2007 TED seminar in March 2007 displayed only five phases. The Molecular and Cellular phases had been condensed into one Cell phase. The City stage had been removed, and from Wright's demonstration it appears that the stage has been assimiliated into the start of the Civilization phase. Furthermore, the two last phases were condensed back into the single Space phase.[3] It is assumed that these five phases, Cell, Creature, Tribal, Civilization and Space will be the five available stages in the final release of Spore.[22]

In Wright's 2005 demonstration, the creature with which he began looked remarkably similar to his earlier microbe. This led many people to believe that the creature was based upon the microbe's appearance. However, in a 2006 video from E3, narrated by a senior programmer, it was said that the player will initially begin as a slug-like animal. The narrator further stated the reason for this was to allow for more player creativity. It is unsure which method will be used in the final game however, as a new video demonstrates the essence of the cell creature emerging from a pond. The 2007 TED Presentation in March 2007 depicted a legless, slug-like creature emerging from the water, leaving a trail of slime in its wake.[3] The cellular phase was renamed as the tide pool phase[23], then called the cell phase months later..[24]

And so on

i knew they removed the water section ... i was talking about the way certain parts would react to gravity... and the origionality of the way creatures react to their limbs... (so far all my creatures have had the same walking pattern for 2,3 and 4 legs, just sped up for shorter limbs and slowed down for longer ones... same motion entierly.) (like the huge bird would tip over as it turned, or the 3 legged creature would need to heavily wag its tail as it walked for ballance)

i really doubt this is the case as the late 07 demonstrations showed that the creatures acted more realisticly to the amount of limbs or off ballance in the positioning of the limbs...

Like I said earlier, the demos Wright gave a few years ago are much more impressive than the game that's going to be released. Will Wright has been taking lessons out of Peter Molyneux's book, it would appear.

But seriously. I can't get my confirmation email. Is it because I have the leaked version from before it was really released?

That news to me is frustrating. If this is the case what is the point of the test drive in creature creator? I would like to know exactly how my creatures will be walking/jumping/attacking, and I dont want to see appendages clipping through the ground or the body. I'm hoping that the creator gets tied into the game seamlessly so that I don't have to swap back and forth from creator to game, making sure the creature is not doing something weird... just looking weird!

Nothing was removed from the game that can't be added later via expansions. All the basic tools are still there. I refuse to be as doom and gloom about it like some people are, it's not a deathblow to the vision by any means.

I know, it's like magic! =D Your slug is adorable.

Also, I figured out what affects gaits the most, it's the position of the hip and shoulder joints on the torso. If you have a creature that walks funny, mess with those until it works.

Blast, my program that should never exit ("The Spore Creature Bastardizer") is not working. The goal was to copy the data from a creature into another creatures file, so the thumbnail was different than the stored file...

...oh well, the program shouldn't exist anyway, it's a horrible idea.

I tried to, but failed miserably. I would love to be able to have a functional one, they're one of my favorite aliens. I don't think you can nest graspers inside mouths to make one actually work ingame, though.

Just going by likeness, though, the one by FirtahlKoreth is my favorite; it looks great and animates well.

That's funny, it's my least favorite. Thanks though. I made another guy, and gave it a generated name. He is as small as possible (two vertebra). It will be interesting to see how the "breeding" system works. Would small creatures breed faster than large ones, would it be possible to make a fast breeding carnivorous death machine? That would be cool.

I would really love to make some rat-sized carnivores that attack in the hundreds and take down even the largest prey.

I do hope they allow you to override stats however you want, even if it's just by console commands. Making that available wouldn't be too much trouble I wouldn't imagine, and would open up lots to the power user (even if it was technically considered cheating and would, say, prevent the creature from being uploaded to other people's game worlds).

I believe that you can add 'pack members' in the Creature Phase when you earn creature upgrades. Not 100% sure tho.

This is the best "interesting while still viable" creature I've come up with :

I want to be friends with him.

It would just be funny to see some of these creatures enter an advanced civilization. I'll paint the picture: A UFO lands on our planet, and us humans gather around the giant flying saucer. The hatch opens with a loud hiss of steam, and Meteorswarm's intelligent drumstick species steps out wearing a futuristic outfit.

"Uh... how do I shake his hand?"
"How does... how does he press buttons in the ship?"

See, I want to populate my world with impossible creations. Things which should not live.

Just because I'm a jerk.
