XV is a ridiculous amount of fun. Its in that weird spot where I won't say it's better
than most others in the series, but I'm certainly enjoying it more than any other numbered one except XII.
I'm not super far in the story, especially now because I've gotten to the arena and can't stop betting on monsters.
My usual criticism for a Final Fantasy game is boring characters. I can take a crappy story with decently developed characters over even a good story with boring characters. Which is why I like XIII more than X. XV's story so far is... okay, but the characters are great. Even Cindy is pretty cool, though her visual design is horrible. Combat feels good, if really frustrating at times, and the Imperial attacks are too common. (You'll hear "Noct! Overhead" at least 2 times every time you get out of the car. Sometimes more) Speaking of the car though, it's the coolest. It basically ends up being the equivalent of XII's airship for fast travel. If you want to leave the road, you get Chocobos fairly early in the game for that. At first I didn't like that magic was basically grenades, but the first time you throw out a Thundara on a group of magitek troopers, it feels so good.
The setting and "feel" of the game, though, are what really gets to me. The banter, the scenes of them sitting around their Coleman™ tent on Coleman™ chairs, and listening to them talk about Prompto's selfies are all neat ways to make them seem like actual characters. It's also sort of like playing Final Fantasy Goes to America and that's really neat.
