Does anyone have any idea how to keep them from auto-renewing it? I have searched endlessly, and the only thing I can find is spending 80 minutes talking to an indian callcenter to cancel the entire account, which I don't want to do.

It pisses me off that they make you go through this shit :(

You can't. The lowest thing I know of is the three month subscription. It's just their way of getting more money off you.

And, if you give them your email, if you have the one-year, they will send you a confirmation making sure you want to renew for the next year. If you don't, you can cancel it right there.

The 80-minute indian callcenter thing is an Internet legend spread by unlucky customers commenting on each others' blogs. It's usually very painless and relatively quick.
But you don't want to cancel.

...Yes I do. I said I did. Why would I lie about that?

I don't often play 360 online anymore, and the whole thing about them pretty much *forcing* you to renew xbox live just pisses me off to the point of wanting to cancel it out of spite.

I'll renew it once halo 3 and gta4 finally come out, but I'm not going to pay for the months between that I likely wont use.

Of course, if I renew then, they'll force me to continue. Blah. Maybe I'll just buy a prepaid card...

You have to call. Alternatively, cancel/change your credit card number. Then they can't continue to charge you.

The process IS very painless, though. Just say that your XBox broke or something if you want to avoid retention conversations.

I think i missed something.

Autorenewing is a pain in the ass. Just set a reminder for a few days before it autorenews itself and cancel it then.
