Got my copy today. It didn't work the first time I put it in, but I thought nothing of it. Played a two hour session, started to get into the subspace, when it stopped working. Can't get on now, and there is no support if that happens in the uk.

WHY!!????

Where does any pokemon get the element he attacks with from?

And yeah that move is brutal, shorthop rock smashes on HRC = win, shorthop rock smashes with bat drops = World Record, but that's REALLY hard to do.

I found Kirby to be very effective in Boss Battles with his side special hammer attack. It's not too difficult to beat the 100 man brawl with him too, just keep jumping up and using his down special on the top platform. You can also use pretty much the same tactic with King Dedede and his up special.

I find Sonic to be best for boss battles. Just keep pressing that B button. Just keep on mashing it.

This is how I got 7 kills on Cruel Melee in SSBM. I am very pleased with that score.

The best I got on Cruel in SSBM was 20 or so with the classic pikachu strat. The first way that I got 7 kills was with mewtwo's b-charge (make them bounce off it till they fall off haha).

I think I got around 17 with Roy. I pushed myself because of a rumored secret character obtained from getting 20. Damn intarwebz.

I've found two good strategies for multi-man brawls is to use either ike or wolf, and either spam up+a with ike, or up smash with wolf
works like a dream.

oh, and i play with captain falcon and zelda as my mains, and i sometimes play as toon link, wolf, ike and sheik

Hell, Even Ganon's Slowed down version of it can cause some serious damage when used properly(In the midst of a chaotic Brawl when no-one is paying any attention to you)

I have to speculate on the name of the NEXT iteration of the series though...

Obviously it has to follow large series naming conventions and be

Yeh I recently finally got round to purchasing Brawl. Combination of CBA to head over to a GAME shop for purchase, and the fact it only came out over here last month.
On playing it, I'm strongly impressed. Subspace RPG is very immersive, and the sticker concept works quite nicely. Can't say it makes much of an effect but to have Marth with a Beam Sword up constantly is a nice bonus. Great Maze stage is a b****** though.

Random thoughts:
- Thank God they allow me to use my NGC controller for it. Give me a tethered control system that merges seamlessly from a predecessor and that won't disconnect from the positioning of the user/sensor bar anyday
- Falcon certainly seems a tad nerfed, but I like how they kept the white/pink costume of his for "The LUUV Machine" (Show your moves... in bed!) running gag me and my friends have for him
- I think Falco seems a bit faster. Blaster attack especially was far slower on Melee, but I still probably prefer Fox to him.
- Did Link always have the charge ability for the B-UP manoeuvre when he's stationary on land? That seems new to me...
- Thank God they tossed Pichu. Lucario's a nice Mewtwo replacement, with his own touch. [According to a random in-game flavour text, his pewpew improves on significant damage - can anyone verify this?]
- I can't help but think it introduces a huge ream of characters from running the Subspace, and while splitting the teams around and allowing you to switch gives you that training window, I feel overwhelmed by characters and lacking the knowledge of what each button does essentially
- I've recently realised that Ness/Lucas can use PKThunder as a recovery move (albeit a poorly-aimed one), and trying it on Melee it seems Ness had it back then as well. Was it still usable and frequent move back then as general utility, or just the bad result of a poor aim?
- Marth seems to have migrated a bit more mainstream, as Melee had him as a specialist with the Dancing Blades, and anyone looking for a swordsman took Roy for his fiery abilities. Somehow with Brawl he seems more accessible, and I sort of prefer him to Ike somehow (though the latter's B-UP recovery is very exquisite). Might need to brush up on how to get his B-forward sword slashes to get the 7+ combos I think you can obtain.
- Diddy Kong's a waste to be fair. Can't say I like King D or Wario that much either. They seem to fall in the "meh" zone for me.
- Does the Melee "Black Hole" glitch still work?

Falcon was nerfed. A lot. The knee is nowhere near the epic ultra-powerful two-hit-kill it used to be, and in general he seems a bit floaty-er, and slidy-er. I do like changing directions with the Falcon Punch, though.

I bought new controls from play-asia for this.
- Falcon certainly seems a tad nerfed, but I like how they kept the white/pink costume of his for "The LUUV Machine" (Show your moves... in bed!) running gag me and my friends have for him

VERY nerfed, he was top tier in Melee but now he is at the very bottom of the tiers (if you give them any weight) his SHFFL Fair sucks now when it was god back in melee.

- I think Falco seems a bit faster. Blaster attack especially was far slower on Melee, but I still probably prefer Fox to him.

Spoiler:
You'll find Wolf amazing, his attacks have HUGE HITBOXES (I'd say /almost/ broken hitboxes) and he moves so far forward on this fsmash

- Did Link always have the charge ability for the B-UP manoeuvre when he's stationary on land? That seems new to me...

Have not tried it, sounds interesting.

- Thank God they tossed Pichu. Lucario's a nice Mewtwo replacement, with his own touch. [According to a random in-game flavour text, his pewpew improves on significant damage - can anyone verify this?]

I main Lucario, every point of damage increses his attacks damage and knockback and he reaches a maximum at 200% damage.

Also his "maximum" AND "minimum multiplier" changes whether he is ahead or behind, if he is behind then at 200% he will be doing more than if he is in front or equal at 200%. He is termed the "comeback king" for this reason. Also he is the only character who can truely combo (as in, link moves together consistently and fast enough to be considered combos in training mode) he also can chain grab (forward b)at low %ages and his edgeguarding ability is awesome, I love him. His only problem is KOing, by the time you get them to a %age that you can KO them (which is pretty high unless lucario is high) your moves have deteriorated and you need to pull of a grab + a attck (his jabs in a grab are really fast) to fix up the deteriorated move queue before it becomes easy to KO.

- I've recently realised that Ness/Lucas can use PKThunder as a recovery move (albeit a poorly-aimed one), and trying it on Melee it seems Ness had it back then as well. Was it still usable and frequent move back then as general utility, or just the bad result of a poor aim?

Only time I saw it used not as a recovery was with game and watch glitches, in general it's a poor recovery, someone can easily gimp you buy jumping in front of the PK thunder (but I think Lucas's goes through people so it wouldn't work for him).

His Dancing blades is much faster and his charge B much more useful (imho) but his range has been cut by 25% or more which makes a lot of other character out range him (basically he isn't OP anymore).

- Diddy Kong's a waste to be fair. Can't say I like King D or Wario that much either. They seem to fall in the "meh" zone for me.

Diddy, King DDD and Wario are all high tier, Diddy can infinite with bananas and his moves flow really well, King DDD can infinite just about everyone who isn't small with Grab -> Throw Down -> Dash -> Grab (which is why walk-out stages are banned in tournies). Wario is a huge mind fuck and most of his moves are strong moves.

- Does the Melee "Black Hole" glitch still work?

Doubtful.

Edit:

Just yesterday I got 11 secs (or so) on Target Smash 5 in 2 player mode (Lucario, Pit).
Very Hard Boss Battle in about 2 minutes (or so) with 2 players (Charizard, Charizard)
And about 1050m on Home Run 2 player (Yoshi, Charizard).

Charizard is the best at everything, seriously, Charizard-Charizard on Boss Battles can 2 hit master hand (2 Rock Smashes from each Charizard) our record on master hand is 2 seconds!

Wow! I really must try that thing with Charizard and Master Hand... do prefer Ivysaur in a battle though-his recovery I would say is the best PoTr one, and when his seed explodes, it has so much kick behind it! I do prefer Zelda/Sheik in Brawl, especially the little touch they added into the transformation.
The First transform you do may take a long time-mabye 3 or 4 seconds. BUT, the more you transform, the shorter the time gets-it still doesn't get as quick as it was in SSBM, but it gets alot faster-also, Dins Pearl has been vastly improved.

The fact that Lucas's PK Thunder can go through multiple targets, to me, means there isn't really any reason to play Ness. Having an easily blockable return has always been a pretty major handicap.

I've just recently discovered just how much I love Luigi in this game. I'll have to go back and try the first two again (though I've always preferred the original to Melee), and see if he was as good there as he is here.

He can do more damage, his side-smash is more powerful and his PK Fire ramps up more damage. Lucas MAY be intrinsically better than Ness, but I'm far better with Ness than I am with Lucas. Playstyles yo.

So I was right about that? I wasn't sure whether they changed Ness's PK from melee to be the same as Lucas' but I remember Lucas' could go through people haha.

Also, another combo that gets over 1000m in HRC with no bat dropping (really...really...really hard to get timing down) is 2x Ness, have the front ness roll towards the bag and the back ness move forward a bit then hold down and spam A (his spammy foot tap kick thing) then at 2 seconds left, have the Ness closest to the bat go grab it, then the ness who isn't getting the bat do PK Fire 2x OR 1x (I don't know which is better, I got over 1000 with 2x, but it pushes the sandbag right against Ness and hitting the bag with the tip of the bat is the best).

For the over 1050m on HRC get Yoshi and Charizard, Yoshi does Shorthop dairs and while he dairs have Charizard rock smash, the dair will keep the Sandbag in place, again at 2 seconds get Charizard to grab the bat, you can risk another dair, but if you're dairing when Charizard swings the bat when the time is nearly up IT WILL stop the bag from flying (also, rocksmash > bat smashes, so bat smashing during dair for damage isn't as good).

You can improve everything HRC combo with bat drops, but it's really hard to time perfectly.

I guess because I was a Link main in Melee, I pay more attention. Basically, Link in Brawl lost a lot that was good for him in Melee, the hookshot is worthless for recovery now, and his Up-B on the ground used to be near instant, HUGE range, and gave a pseudo-spike. It was amazing.

That's gone in Brawl.

It's odd really, as Link was the one I was most capable with in the original SSB. Now, he really feels worthless. Toon Link at least has a few things going for him.

I find myself using Pokemon Trainer more and more often now, though.

ah toon link... he's great.

link + good jumping + spike d-air + other slightly different attacks and specials = toon link

i think he's great, i prefer him to young link from melee, but i dont have it, so im wondering, which is better?

Toon Link > Young Link. Unfortunately. I prefer the appearance of YL, but he was really just nerfy Adult Link. His speed didn't nearly make up for all of his disadvantages, as far as I could tell. Whereas Toon Link actually has something on Adult Link.

yeah. There was a time when Link was the bees knees.
Now? There are better, and he seems kind of blah.

I prefer the fire emblem guys. I like them cause they're easy mode with the c-stick. And by easy mode I mean, you don't need a lot of practice to get them down. A few things (like learning the b-direction to get close to the edge, the dodge) make you better, but the sword is just so long...

Then again, if I play I regularly get beaten by anyone with skill, and can stomp anyone without skill...

Hmmm

Ike. . . He's great fighter, but I can't help but feel cheated, as Ike was a fast, nigh-defenceless character originally, and the hulking titan he is now just feels wrong.

I think ROB is the quintessential unfair fighter, though. Everything seems to work better playing as him.

No he's definitely not. He's slow as hell and his attacks have easily abused lag. Go to a tournament.

Rob is absolutely great for defensive players. And that top is freaking annoying.
