Heavy Metal is indeed a cult classic. You will find many people who love that movie, although I can understand not recognizing it, it is almost 30 years old now.
I always liked it, although a few of the segments are a little too crazy (the coke snorting aliens for example), but some are pure gold, like the shorter B-17 story : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rWh4Ux_Vlq4

The fact that you might know is creepy.
Why? It's not that obscure a movie. South Park even recently parodied it.

I never actually saw the movie myself. However, here is the cover. A woman riding a yellow dinosaur.

I can't believe how many of you knew what I was talking about! Was it really that popular? :|

I recently caught "Howard the Duck" on TV and remembered how much I enjoyed it once upon a time.

Heavy Metal is fucking epically awesomely fantastically great. Okay, some bits of it are a little dumbish, but HANOVER FIST! I mean, really. :)

I can't remember if I've seen Street Fighter, but I was rather tickled by DOA.

For a cult film? Especially a cult film based on a fricken Magazine? Yes.

For a mainstream film? No. But, we are talking about a film released in 1981. The fact that it's remembered is remarkable in and of itself. I mean, how many of these films have you heard of before?

Then pick a span of early 80s movies. My point is that though there are thousands of movies released every year, hundreds of which make it to international markets and so on, a scant handful are remembered more than twenty years later. Heavy Metal is almost 30 and still remembered by some people, so... it's no Star Wars, nor is it a Rocky Horror, but it has it's fans. Unlike, say, S.O.B. which is likely only remembered due to Julie Andrews going topless.

I think if there were an actor to win the category of starring in bad movies you love, he'd have it by a light year.

I'm with you mosc... he seems to pick terrible movies but at the same time, I enjoy most of them.

For me, this has to be ballistic. It was absolutely terrible but watch it with friends and you just crack up.

Many in this thread have mentioned Fifth Element. I don't nowadays dare to say aloud that I like it, because so many consider it a bad movie - but, well, I do like it, can't help it, and don't actually understand what's so wrong with it.

But my truly awful movie confession is this: I like Interview with the Vampire. In a sort of twisted way though - every time I watch it I find myself howling of laughter in several (inappropriate) places. Luckily nobody wants to see that movie, so it's my back up, should a need for solitary, hysterical laughter arise - my giggling fits would probably ruin even the rest of the movie for anyone who might like at least bits of it.

All but six. :) And five of those are in the last 15. Of course, I have the (dis)advantage of having been alive then, unlike a vast majority of the forumites.

Mr. and Mrs. Smith. I guess it might not be *that* bad, but I crack up every time at certain scenes.
