Lucifer in the Sky with Diamonds

Postby Angua » Tue Feb 02, 2016 2:36 pm UTC

Is anyone else watching this? It's hilarious. I think the best thing about it as that there's no lying or hidden secrets with him. Generally with these 'super person teams with cop' shows there's a lot of drama around people finding out the truth. Which can be fun, but it's pretty common. In this case, sure not many people actually seem to believe him, but he's never lied or even hidden what he can do. I'm really looking forward to seeing where they take this.

If you were a fan of the comics, I highly recommend not watching this show.

It's not bad on it's own, despite being immensely cheesy, but it is completely shitting on the comics.

Glad I'm not a fan of the comics then... (didn't even know it was based on one when I started watching it)

Check 'em out! They're very very good. This brand of Lucifer is a Neil Gaiman character from the Sandman series, and there was a spinoff series following some of his adventures. It's just... very very different.

As for the show, there have definitely been elements I enjoy, though I better hit it's stride soon. I'm hoping something interesting with the detective lady is revealed that makes her able to resist his wily ways.

I've never really got into comics (due to coming from somewhere where they weren't available). Maybe if I see a collection I'll give them a shot.

Does anyone else love the fact that Lucifer is impossible to predict? Whatever I think they're going to cover in the next episode is generally left, and then they bring something completely out of the blue! That still makes total sense, and doesn't feel like they're going 'What a tweest'.

I watched this once and it seemed enjoyable enough, even with the whole procedural thing.

Yep, wasn't expecting that. Any of that.

Monster [Major Spoilers]
Spoiler:
I really hope they don't just go with the easy cop out of having the Doctor get amnesia or something because she can't process it. This show is pretty good at not going down the route that you'd expect, so I'm really hoping that isn't on the cards, because it's super cliched.

Maze and Trixie are so cute together. I loved how worried Maze was that Trixe would get scared of her. Also, the President of Mars costume was so cute!

If they do keep the Doctor's memory, I'm mainly interested in knowing what it will mean for her relationship with Maze. She has been one of Maze's only real friends, and I can imagine extra fall out between Maze and Lucifer if he's the reason their relationship falls apart. Amenadial doesn't seem to see her that much anyway.

We started watching it! We only watched three episodes so far, but we're enjoying it! It's kind of cheesy, but in an endearing sort of way? And yes I love we don't have to deal with ambiguities or "is he the real deal??" sort of stuff. The actor also has a really good smile for this character.

In some ways it reminds me of Jane the Virgin. Very different genres, but similar tongue-in-cheek approaches.

The conflicts of interest in these shows always annoy me.

Yes those are always handwaved away, if they're even mentioned at all. But this week's episode was just so entertaining that I didn't really care. One part that didn't make sense is the montage and how it combined with Lucifer's perception of it. It was presented as if Lucifer was also seeing the montage, not the actual events happening:
Spoiler:
In practice: Person gets interviewed, person says Lucifer is awesome in bed, best night they ever had, says they're not jealous, says it didn't really matter, repeat with next person.

According to the show it looks like Lucifer first saw all the awesome stuff from all the people, then all the not-jealous stuff, then the didn't matter stuff.

Also I loved we have multiple examples of partners of his that were men. That felt missing from season one, and completely in-character for him.

This show is too fun for it to be more than a fleeting annoyance - and I suppose Lucifer is friendly with the right people to get away with things that the characters of CSI shouldn't.

That was a welcome addition.

I saw it as more of:
At the beginning he was focussing on all the good stuff, and didn't really pay attention to the didn't matter stuff. However, as the day went on it started dawning on him about how much the didn't matter stuff hurt him, and he had a harder time focussing on the positive.

Also, it was good that we finally have some men. It makes a lot more sense.
