The Super-Epic-Mega-Crossover thread (Spoilers)

Postby Angua » Sat Nov 26, 2016 2:26 pm UTC

This is a thread for all crossover events that would get confusing if you were trying to talk about them in their individual threads (some people may not watch the other shows regularly, just tuning it for the crossover).

It can also be used to discuss potential crossovers that may/may not happen, or ones that you'd wish to see.

It will be rife with potential spoilers for any show you're not watching, or catching up on, as they may refer to historical events (eg condolences for someone's death).

Right, now that's all out of the way, is anyone else psyched for the DC supergirl-flash-arrow-LoT cross over next week? It's looking great! http://www.slashfilm.com/dc-tv-crossove ... -tomorrow/

I figure it will have about a 168min run time, which is the average superhero movie length, so I really hope it has the writing to match. I think the aliens look like they might be White Martians (they are calling them 'Dominators'). Also, hard to tell from the trailer if they've brought over Wynn (at least for me, as I suck at recognising people from just flashes)- it would be nice to have more of the Supergirl team than just her.

LoT and Arrow teams have got so big - it's going to be interesting to see how they work them all together.

I'm only up to date on Supergirl and The Flash. I'm catching up on Arrow slowly but I'm only at season one, and I've never seen LoT. I imagine I'll be fine though.

Never watched LoT and gave up on Supergirl after suffering through three episodes but just based on how previous The Flash and Arrow crossovers have gone, I find it surprising people can get excited for a crossover. I think both shows can't even manage their own casts much of the time so mixing them up just really doesn't work for me.

Then again, I gave up on Arrow a while back and haven't started the new season of The Flash so I have no clue what this particular crossover is promising to be about. The last crossover I saw was about Hawk Girl and it was mostly just boring for me.

Well, they certainly had fun playing with it in Supergirl:

Spoiler:
Breech during the opening scene, nothing comes through. - Well, I guess it's a bit too soon.

'No one is coming to save you, Supergirl'
Breech opens - Oh, yeah! Flash coming through
Breech closes. Bad guy distracted allowing Supergirl to get the upper hand.

Finally last scene do they actually come through.

Yeah that was kind of fun, though not very crossover-y yet!

Flash episode
Spoiler:
So, are the Legends just going to conveniently forget that Stein has been slowly changing his own timeline every time he runs into his younger self?

Tbf I guess Flashpoint is the reason that the Reverse Flash has re-entered the timeline.

I'm glad that Oliver stayed behind to help talk some sense into Barry, because I do feel that loads of people are being unfair.

Sarah nearly killed Damian Dark so many times, the only reason she didn't is cause he's magic and the others tried to stop her. The Legends spent all of the first season trying to help kill Rip Hunter's nemesis in the past to stop him killing the wife and child. The Time Council literally had an assassin who worked by going back and killing them as a child.

I don't follow Legends of Tomorrow (and I'm nowhere near up-to-date on Arrow) so there was a lot of stuff I missed. Flash episode spoilers:
Spoiler:
While the fighting was a lot of fun, the story felt kind of "Meh". I appreciated they managed some one-on-one Stein and Caitlin time, and continue to have some Flash content while also doing the crossover stuff. It just felt all over the place, and a strange plan for the aliens. For instance, what if Barry didn't gather most of the supers in one place? That's pretty much exactly what stopped them from winning. Why not just wait for a G8 or something and take control over world leaders' minds? Would be much easier to do what they want that way. In any case, I'm mostly watching this for the character interaction, not really overarching plot.

Spoiler:
I guess you can handwave it with 'aliens have been gathering intel for years and also have telepathy so knew how people would react. But yeah, I would have liked something more about why Supergirl was needed to destroy the thing, rather than just some regular humans with a bomb.

Spoiler:
I'm not bothered by that too much, it definitely seemed like an urgent thing that needed to be done, and it doesn't look like they have great connections with the government (plus they have their own stuff to deal with). I think it probably was the fastest solution, and it also takes Supergirl out of the action with Arrow.

So, I really hope they were setting that up for a sequel, otherwise:
Spoiler:
The Dominators just up and leaving when their bomb failed? No explanation? It's pretty unsatisfying.

Also, given that the timeline on Earth seems to be affected all the time (I mean, starting with the Reverse Flash killing Barry's mother, and the fact that Time Pirates are a thing that exist), you really have to wonder why Flashpoint was so different.

At least Sisko seems to be finally forgiving Barry, and we can just get over the whole thing. It is definitely the worst thing about the Flash these days.

Nora Allen's death was presumably part of the Time Masters' master plan, so will have been planned for (at least the first time). And, hey, for all we know, some of the bad things Barry's getting blamed for are actually the consequences of the Legends messing up the timeline...

Finished watching it yesterday.
Spoiler:
The Aliens' plan was kind of silly considering how many super powered aliens are in the world. The fighting back scenes were really dumb - why have Green Arrow and the Legends team do their big fight scene if Flash and Supergirl are basically going to take care of the entire world? Also I really hate stoic obnoxious womanizing fire gun guy. He's not cool and not funny.

I did appreciate how they managed to do a few stories we could relate to in each episode. I particularly like what's-her-name from Arrow wanting to stick around in the illusion. She retconned it a bit too easily, but it was still emotionally impactful.
