Cut in their prime

Postby Okita » Thu Jan 31, 2008 11:31 pm UTC

Everyone has one. Some have several.

TV Shows that the network stupidly decided to cut down but should have been given a second or at least finished first season. Perhaps you saw it when it came out or found them after they were released on DVDs. And then you went online to find more episodes and sign the petitions in vain to get additional content. But failed.

Mourn them here o' tv series that was so good.

I am personally mourning Undergrads and Clone High.

[Note: If your show just simply ended/ was not renewed for after having 2 seasons, it does not count. Same thing if it's a spinoff that was canceled because it sucked.]

Firefly.

I don't live in the states, so I couldn't watch it on TV. I downloaded it then bought the R2 DVD set. Serenity was nice, but an extended Firefly would have been nicer!

Definitely have to second Arrested Development. That was just a crime. (But weren't they all?)

Also, Andy Richter controls the Universe.

I never got into Titus, but I have a feeling that's about to change.

Carnivale. Second season wrapped everything up nicely, then the last 5 minutes threw it all open to HOLY CRAP WHAT NOW-dom, but alas, there was no more...

Yeah, Carnivale almost replaced Firefly as the show I most wished was continued. The whole six season plan would have been nice.

Since finding out that Knuth generally made it up as he went along, and that the stuff you are talking about at the end of season two was made up at the last minute knowing that the show had been canceled. That just pisses me off.

There is 3 seasons of Arrested Development ad the finale wound up the storyline.

IMO Any show that runs for 3 seasons can't truly be labeled as 'Cut'

Titus was really funny but the humour started to wear thing with it's repetition.

Firstly and lastly, but mostly firstly, Firefly.

Twin Peaks.

Edit: Yeah, I know TP ran two seasons, but the second season was a "hurry up and throw this shit together, we're being cancelled hard" affair.

Surface was an awesome show, arguably better than Heroes. They made Surface expecting it to have a second season, making it all the more irritating when it was canceled.

I'll join the bandwagon here with Firefly,
But I'll raise you Studio 60.

and a show that was cancelled years ago The Opposite Sex.

also (although I guess it doesn't fit criteria) Veronica Mars.

Also also I wish they never stopped Buffy. but with seven seasons it's way off the grid here.. :)

Farscape hardly fits here, it had four full seasons and a miniseries.

Just because you miss it doesn't mean it was cut in it's prime. In THAT regard, I guess I can take Titus off the list :(

One could argue that Angel and B5 were cut in their prime, since both had long-running story arcs that had to be hastily thrown together and wrapped up after getting short notice of cancellation (the less said about the surprize-guys-please-pull-something-out-of-your-ass 5th season of B5, the better), which kept a decent-to-good thing from becoming amazing. :\

Whatever happened to Erie, Indiana? I used to love that show, man...

"Hey, Straczynsky....remember how we told you we were cutting your fifth season, and you rushed and cut and squeezed to try to cram all the major story of seasons 4 and 5 into season 4?

Yeah, well, that season was pretty good. We're signing you for a fifth season. You can just...stitch something together out of the stuff on the cutting room floor, right? Fantastic."

It all makes sense now. I got into B5 about Season 4 and then was like "WTF I KNEW this was crap!" when season 5 came out.

I can't speak for your area, but if the National network wasn't preempting it for something, the local affiliate was. It was on maybe once a month due to various "ZOMG LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL LOLZ!" crap.

I'll second Studio 60, I was all ready to let it fill the gaping hole left in my life when The West wing wound up, and then I was left mourning Sorkin all over again.

And absolutely Arrested Development, the third season was cut short.

Fourthing (?) Arrested Development. Why did no one watch this show?! It seems like everyone who has seen this show liked it! Sure it ran for three seasons, but the third was cut short and the actors wanted to keep going... Still keeping up hope for a comeback or a movie... Please?

Also, the live action The Tick. I thought Patrick Warburton was brilliant as the Tick and I was apparently one of the few who actually found the show funny, but then again, I used to watch the animated series as a kid.

Also Andy Richter Controls the Universe, Newsradio (Six seasons was not enough! I swear! The show wasn't the same without Phil Hartman, but I still loved it), and, as a completely embarassing guilty pleasure show, Joan of Arcadia. I thought the concept was interesting.

Megas XLR. What was even more painful was that when they did renew it for a second season, the second season was still good, but it lost something... just wasn't as funny. Then it just didn't come back.
