So, what shall we discuss? Greatest Episode? The upcoming movie? Greatest random references? THE WORLD IS OUR OYSTER!

Is this cause of my thread?

That show won three Emmys... it was hard for it to get better. Sadly, it would have been a feature film, were it not for the untimely death of Aku / Mako.

It was also the first Saturday morning cartoon to do an episode without speaking.

It's cause of your sig.

Also...
The Studio

And it's wiki, and we ALWAYS know that wiki is right...

P.S. Was it really a saturday morning cartoon? I've only ever seen it at night. Of course, I'm Canadian, so that needs to be taken into account.
Also, Greatest episode: NO! Jump good!

WOO! That wasn't there the last time I fanboyishly read the entire wiki! WOO!

It was a Saturday morning cartoon, and then an after school cartoon in Canada, until eventually making it to YTV's primetime slot with Beasties and ReBoot, when ReBoot started to get all dark and violent. Face it... his previous two cartoons were Dexter's Lab and Powerpuff Girls... where were they gonna stick him?

I think he did a LOT to promote the idea of cartoons as art to a younger generation. The panoramic washed-out watercolor backgrounds that stretch for five screens, the original score created for every episode blending traditional Japanese instruments with hip-hop beats, the just unbelievable fight scenes, and no outlining on any of the characters. Everything is a full-border color handmade work of art.

*sigh*

Jump good!

EDIT: Wow, the theme song was by will.i.am.

The episode where the rabbit steals his clothes. *sheepish grin*

and the one with the robot samurai dudes that he originally needs the cybernetic gauntlet to kill.

Loved Samurai Jack to death.

Fuck yes, Samurai Jack is one of my favourite works ever, in any medium. I loevs it. I'm waiting desperately for an announcement of the entire show on Blu-Ray. Desperately.

The film probably won't be for a while, as Tartakovsky has other stuff coming out first, but when it does... My god. The awesome.

There's no way it will be anything other than an actual ending and Jack making it back to the past.

There were a few good episodes I enjoyed:

Jack And The Three Blind Archers: Jack comes upon a tower that contains a wishing well that grants what you most desire. Jack, of course wants to return to his own time. The tower and well are guarded by three archers that are blind, but have sonar-like hearing. He blindfolds himself and moves as quickly as they do, not getting hit, until he finally reaches the tower, defeating the guards. The guards turn out to be soldiers that wanted to be the greatest warriors of all time. They were cursed by the well with their blindness, and forced to protect the well.

Jack And The Lava Monster: Jack is summoned by a voice in a volcano, and must dodge several obstacles. Turns out the voice is a Viking warrior trapped in the mountain by Aku, forced to live for an eternity in the mountain. He desparately wants to go to Valhalla, but the only way he can do so is to be defeated in battle. Unfortunately there has been no one capable of beating him so far.

Jack And The Rave: Aku has a music minion that brainwashes all the kids in a village with his technopop music, causing them to be destructive and disobedient. The funniest part was Jack dressed up in rave gear, complete with pacifier.

The Birth Of Evil (Parts 1 & 2): Shows how it all began, starting with how a dark force tries to take over the heavens. All the different gods or dieties manage to fight it back, but a portion is cut off and falls to Earth.

How about the one with Ninjas, at night? or the one where he kinda loses his shoe? This is so unfair; how do we figure out which one's the greatest episode if they're all so good?

Sad realization: I haven't seen every Samurai Jack episode...

The scottish guy with the gun for a leg when they go on an epic quest to save his wife. Cmon, you know that was superb. They have a scene with a pan out to the highlands with the music going and it's almost tearful.

I still think the best episode was the one with the dark ninja dude where jack had to "hide in the white". Incredibly rich.

The awesome robots that Jack needed the gauntlet to defeat were cool too. The little guy at the end going "high five!" was later referenced in the twisted testicles episode of venture brothers by the boy genius? Anyone else think this is possible?

You know what would be easier? if we just did this:

Samurai Jack is the greatest cartoon of all time. However, there has been endless debate on which was the BEST samurai jack episode. I will provide the answer HERE

eee! aw, you got me all excited for new stuff. Now I'm all sad about Mako.

I think I liked the first season best. Jack and the Scotsman!
Although I didn't see that much of the later seasons, I should.

Genndy Tartakovsky is so cool. What's he up to these days? (...yes!)

A few month's back I was feeling very nostalgic for Samurai Jack. Totally not expecting it to be as good as I remembered, I *ahem* acquired every episode and watched, and watched. and Goddammit, It was even better than I remembered. I thought about making a thread after that, but I figured there couldn't possibly not already be a thread about Samurai friggin' Jack and that anything I could say about it would pale before the awesomeness of Jack anyway.

Also, Nomination for best episode: Jack versus Aku

The Four Seasons of Death is one of my favourites... Pretty much all of season four was incredible. Sucks that it got cancelled right at its peak.

As I keep telling people...

Mako, the voice of Aku, died. It wasn't cancelled, they couldn't go on.

Also, fun facts:

Emmy Awards Won

2005 - Won - Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation
Bryan Andrews (storyboard artist) XLIX - The Four Seasons of Death

2004 Won Outstanding Animated Program
(For Programming Less Than One Hour) XXXVII-XXXVIII - The Birth of Evil

2003 Won Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation
Dan Krall (layout artist) XXXII - Jack and the Traveling Creatures

2003 Won Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation
Scott Wills (production designer) XXV - Jack and the Spartans

Dude died like two years after Cartoon Network canned it.

Edit: Oh, and they didn't even wait to finish screening the episodes that had been made before it got taken off air:

Despite its Emmy nominations and wins the show was taken off of the air before the fourth season could complete its initial run.

Cartoon Network execs never liked the show and had no interest in ordering more episodes when more traditional stuff was where the bucks were. Had nothing whatsoever to do with Aku's voice dying.

Sorry to burst you bubble.

I reject your reality, and substitute my own.

Damn. I'd always thought it was because of Aku. Still, I can understand why they canned it.

Yeah, all episodes are the best ever.

And just because the voice of Aku died doesn't mean it has to be stopped. The voice of japanese void of Cyborg Ninja dying didn't stop Kojima from releasing more Metal Gear games. (Though oddly, it resulted in the american voice actor being changed too o.O).

And, like I said, it was a whole two year gap between the cancellation of the show and the guys death. The latter did not cause the former.

But that analogy is a little irrelevant seeing as...
Spoiler:
The Cyborg Ninja died during his only appearance anyway. O.o

The Twin Snakes remake of the original. (As an additional note: There weren't even Japanese voiceovers in the game, only japanese subtitles).

I had a nerdgasm over the idea Tartakovsky directing The Dark Tower cartoon series. Up until then a film adaptaion of The Dark Tower seemed like a horrible idea.
Basically, everything he touches turns to awesome.
