Principal's Office

Postby PatrickRsGhost » Sun Sep 21, 2008 10:33 pm UTC

Has anyone seen that show "Principal's Office" shown on TruTv Thursday nights?

For those who haven't seen it, it's a show that features the principal, the assistant principal, or sometimes both at separate times, interacting with students and faculty at their schools, mainly high school or junior high. It shows some of the students they have to talk to on a regular basis, who have committed offenses like getting into fights, caught smoking on school grounds, cutting class, going off school grounds to get something to eat (one episode featured a boy going to a friend's house for lunch; another two girls going off-campus to get coffee and doughnuts), using their cell phones in class, and other school rule breaking incidents.

One of the principals they occasionally feature uses corporal punishment as an alternative for detention. Students who have to serve a full day of Saturday detention can swap half a day in exchange for three whacks with the paddle. The choice is theirs.

I like it. I find it a bit funny some of the excuses some of the kids come up with. It sometimes reminds me of my days in high school. I didn't get into as much trouble as some of the kids they show on there.

What are your takes on it? Does it bring back any memories? Who's your favorite principal or assistant principal? Have you ever gotten called in to the principal's office for anything?

In highschool, I think the one and only time I was in the principal's office was to change his mouse. XD

I do remember the first time I got in real trouble, though--sometime in the fourth grade, for throwing snow during recess. We (me and I think 3 others) had to spend the whole week in recess detention in the principal's office and it was quite the most terrifying thing that had happened to me. Not because of the principal, but because I had never really gotten in trouble before.

Also, leaving school property during lunch is not allowed? Where? I've never heard of that rule before, and we certainly didn't have it at my highschool...

Some BOEs or individual schools don't allow it for this reason: Some parents feel that the BOE or the individual school is responsible for the child's safety during school hours, and if the child was to go off-campus to get lunch, and somehow got injured, the parents would sue the school or the BOE. This covers their asses more than it protects the children. I still say it's crap. As long as the child doesn't go off too far, let them go off campus to get lunch.
