I really like the Troy-plot because it takes some very familiar blown-up fears from college-times ("I have to commit to a career! I'll never see my friends again!") except in the crazy hyperbole-Community world, those fears were real, because that's how it actually worked.

A memo to the cast about how to deal with Dan Harmon being fired. It has a dubious distinction of sounding like satire, but appears to be stone cold serious. (Did these guys never *watch* the show?!)

Finally caught up. Just in time for Season 4, and the release of the reason why this show is so funny. They better plan to pick Dan Harmon back for the 6th season and movie.

I thought the halloween episode if pretictable was much better.

Anyone know how much footage using the old pierce they have?

I don't mind them changing but when they swap inside an episode like the 1st one it is offputting.

I laughed once. In the whole episode. It's not the same. I can see the actors reciting the lines, not the characters.

He's in all but two episodes, apparently.

I'm not sure. I'm not sure if I've been tarred thanks to knowing that it's changed, and the trouble production history of this season or something, but something seems a little off in the episodes so far. The new production staff said they were big fans and were bringing new ideas, but that's exactly what it feels like: A fan's idea of what is good about Community rather than what is actually good about Community.

That said, I'm hoping things will change. I'll still watch it whether it does or not, but considering I still watch The Big Bang Theory just to see how it plays out, that's not exactly a high bar to clear.

So the new writers seem to have made some unexplained changes to the characters...
-Annie has taken on some of Abed's Genre Savvy meta-commenting powers. She can see that she is in a horror movie scene and recognize/acknowledge that nobody likes Leonard.
-Troy has lost a seemingly large portion of his knowledge of how sex (and the initiation thereof) works.
-Shirley has changed her view of Britta from A Godless Disrespectful Hussy to A Modern Woman With Experienced Tastes
-Jeff has changed from a "good-looking tryhard" into a "good-looking womanizer". He also seems alright with sexualizing Annie now.

yeah that bothered me.

-Troy has lost a seemingly large portion of his knowledge of how sex (and the initiation thereof) works.
that happened a long time ago. But they definitely have made Troy just silly this season. He just doesn't know about "all of the kinks" that doesn't mean he doesn't know about sex, he and britta just hadn't had it yet.

-Shirley has changed her view of Britta from A Godless Disrespectful Hussy to A Modern Woman With Experienced Tastes
Shirley was being careful with the words she chose as she was talking to Troy, and her emphasis regarding such things has always been a wee bit shifty, but yeah we haven't seen any Shirley Lord fury yet this season.

-Jeff has changed from a "good-looking tryhard" into a "good-looking womanizer". He also seems alright with sexualizing Annie now.

I don't remember this happening any more or less than before. he's always sexualized Annie, he's just also recognized he shouldn't be. They kissed at the end of season two, remember?

Yeah the show got ral campy this season. And I hate to say the phrase "lost a lot of its edge" but they are totally playing it a lot safer for some stupid reason. The Halloween episode was ok, but the Convention episode, the first half at least, was terrible. It started to turn around when Abed and the british guy had the conversation about neurotypicals getting distracted and needing to find other meaningful things in life, and Abed did his Jeff impersonation. I like seeing abed "do" Jeff, and do it well. from that point on the episode got a little better, but it was still purty terrible. No one is enough of an asshole this season yet, though, and we should have gotten to SEE Minerva. It does bother me that "The doctor" is always a white British male, and they had to "write out" the continuation of River Song by claiming she used up all her incarnations in one go to save The Doctor. But it's salvageable, they could always claim they'd been wrong. She would be a great character/plot device/etc. to keep around infinitely, she was sewn in so masterfully. Why not a River Song in the universe, and a Doctor. Why not reseed the universe with other Time Lords? I don't think it Breaks the game integrity.

Also I found Shirley's bit about "I think what Abed likes about the show is it's smart and doesn't talk down to its audience." annoying. I had send Community_NBC that exact tweet, basically, last week, cuz I'm useless like that. I can tell my wife "you want a husband that shows you how much he cares every day." but saying it isn't the same thing as being it.

And there's something wrong with like, the editing/staging and pacing. If I were a film maker, I'd know how to fix it, but I'm not. I'm just a person with a useless college degree.

Jeff was the only character who felt right in the first episode. halloween was better but still not there, and I will probably watch the next episode cuz I don't have a job right now and am terrible at life right now, but if that is bad then I'm probably done except that I'm a devoted little doggie who will watch as my master drinks himself to death, and then eat his face cuz it's the only thing left if the house.

Thanksgiving in March. This was the first episode this season where it felt like the core cast had something to do, and weren't just in a new environment, or having interesting stuff going on around them. I'm looking forward to seeing more of history professor Malcolm McDowell.

They're leaning a little heavy on the Special Lesson Every Episode thing, but it sort of works (and has been going on for a while).

God, I feel like the latest episode was the WORST yet.
Though the "let's do hogan's heroes" episode was really terrible. You don't talk about "doing hogan's heroes" you just do it, and then abed notices there are similarities. You don't talk about being the nazi's and then realize you are, you just realize in a dark moment 10 minutes before the end of the episode when there's still time to fix it. But I really liked the bit about Jeff and "following a charismatic leader."
They were trying to be "edgy" and just FAILING AT DOING IT WELL, SO HARD!

Thanksgiving was...bad. At least Shirley was talking about Jesus? idk. It was so bad I barely remember it. A bunch of Troy's lines were just a little off. And Abed was just wrong. And that whole thing with...never mind. I'm just done.

I had the opposite opinion, thought it was the first of the new season that could have been an episode from the 2nd or 3rd seasons. Still a little bit off; something about the editing or pacing or something is still not right, Abed's shawshank redemption bit didn't go anywhere, and I totally didn't get the thing with the hole in the wall, but otherwise it was solid. Troy's "eating garbage salad...why did you make me go third?!" cracked me up.

Even though the new season has been very hit or miss, I still don't' think they've sunk down below the bar that was set during the two Chang focused episodes in season 3. Those were utterly terrible, along with the claymation Christmas special.
I doubt it will ever be as good as the best episodes of season 1-3 again, but I also don't think they could possibly do worse than the episode where Chang is trying to solve an imaginary detective mystery, or at least they haven't yet.

They have this weird problem with writing lines that are too long, or end after they should. it's....college studenty. I mean...like the way a college student would write a campus tv sitcom. I know this, because I was there, in college, with other people writing sitcoms. Also I have a problem in improv with my lines being excessively informative. It's a rooky mistake. Who teh fuesk is writing this show!?

HOWEVER

Economics of Marine Biology. Could have nearly been written by the old team, nearly.

Now, so far I've liked Chang. It's the Napoleon hat, I suppose. But I'm starting to get sick of "Kevin," and if I hear the word "Changnesia" one more time, I'm going to smash my TV with a keytar. Whatever they're trying to do with this, they had better do it soon.

Also, yes, the puppet episode was horrible.

Part of me is kind of hoping they commit to being a conventionally tedious sit-com just long enough for the characters to gradual realize they're trapped in a purgatory of character stagnation and pointless repetitive plots, and they just skewer every aspect of middling prime-time, non-drama of perpetual mediocrity.

Basic Human Anatomy had something at least similar to a character arc, and a few charming moments. Over all though, it's really short on material and doesn't seem to have any idea where to focus itself.
