the Big Order anime is out now and I am super disappointed

it's weird because Mirai Nikki is one of my favorite anime of all time and this is from the same author, same studio, same director (I think), same everything as far as I know

so what the hell went wrong?

So is the Mirai Nikki guy (at least in the timeline shown).

What are everyone's favourite OPs and EDs this season? I've been enjoying the Sakamoto Desu Ga OP and the Kumamiko ED.

Re zero's ED. Styx helix. Granted, it's because they play it during the episode. Usually I skip past the op and ED.

I absolutely love Flying Witch's OP and, oddly enough, Big Order's ED a.k.a. the only part of the show that feels right

I like Kisnaiver. Kabaneri is entertaining. Tanaka-kun had a weak first episode but is amusing now. Flying witch is a nice SOL with magic.

The last arc (the one with the insects) felt quite longish though. Not bad, but very long.

Also I started watching Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water lately. Had seen a few episodes as a kid (back when it was aired and I didn't have a vcr), and that series is much better than most from when I was a kid. Funny how Nemo looks exactly like Global in Macross SDF. Also many things make me think of Last Exile (which came long after).

It might take quite some time before there is enough new material lets see how long the manga lasts this time before the next hiatus. But yeah its great.

Has anyone tried watching Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu? It's a great story! Also a rare case of a period piece animation. I hope it doesn't die and fail to get a second season...

I am watching the Miyazaki movies that I have missed, which are many. My experience started with Princess Mononoke, which I think ends poorly, with gods doing everything while the human characters do very little.

Nausicaa is the awesomest movie ever; but I may have to read the manga now. (So the guy who animated the dying giant is also the one who directed evangelion?)

I just watched Totoro. That is a treasure.

Kabaneri was good. The ending wasn't quite as strong as the beginning IMO but it actually had an ending which concluded a lot of plot points. Solid anime all around but its not going to break into my "best of anime" list.

I'm pretty sure this arc gets a lot worse before it gets better (if my suspicions are correct, since I'm trying to avoid spoilers from people who read the light novels, I think we'll see about 4 or 5 more loops before Subaru gets his act together).

I've watched the latest one that's on Crunchyroll, I don't know if the fansubbers are ahead of that or not.
Spoiler:
It's the episode in which Subaru spends the entire time broken because of the horror he saw at Roswaal's mansion just before freezing to death.

For some reason I binged Gargantia recently. The art and audio are as excellent as the story and characters fall flat. Alright, the story didn't start out bad: the set-up of inserting a child soldier from a post-scarcity society with an AI-animated mech into Waterworld was good. The culture shock was well-addressed in the first half of the series and showed progress. It's just too bad that basically none of the characters came across as fully human —or worse, the fan service diminishing/conflicting their humanity— and quite a lot of the drama was the result of excessive miscommunication. Oh well, the series is targeted at boys younger than me, perhaps they can be fooled. It's quite action-focussed as a whole, rather than the character focus I'm used to in anime.
I really wish this setting to be adapted for a good anime. Hell, you can copy the (extremely predictable) plot twist/reveal scene whole and work from there; that scene stands out from the rest of the series in my opinion. And drop the damned fan service.

I read the manga so I'm afraid I may be disappointed by this series (the 1997 series wasn't bad though). I will wait for more people to comment on the anime.

Which makes me think (from reading Flumble about Gargantia); I rewatched Macross SDF lately. This (1982) show is not bad but has many flaws. Big, annoying flaws. I noticed episode 27 is much better than any other episode. Very good quality and most of the actions happens there. So if you started the series and get bored in the middle, I suggest skipping to episodes 27 and 36 (the last one).

But then *maybe* watching the films from the 80s makes more sense. Alas I couldn't find them last time I tried.

And now I am watching Bubblegum Crisis. French dubbed, because I couldn't find anything subbed. Can you believe how silly these 80s French voice actors sound?

Re: Zero

Spoiler:
So anything the whale kills is forgotten? Why do I have this sinking feeling that Rem is permanently dead now even if Subaru uses his return-by-death ability?

Also, Puck is suddenly a badass? Why doesn't he ever break out the big guns to save Emilia? Also, I notice he referred to her as "my daughter", just like the big dog thing in the previous timeline. Puck = giant dog thing that killed Subaru?

Betelgeuse didn't seem surprised that Subaru knew his name. A writing mistake, or maybe he's another time traveller?

He thinks Subaru is Sloth, aka, one of them. Emilia is a load bearing boss. There are no mistakes so far, this is how the storyline is suppose to go.

This arc is very frustrating, and it seems there's no plot progression even though they're setting up Subaru to be an eventual chess master. It's taking forever.

I thought it was Pride?

anyway, I just found a show from 2013 called Sunday without God

I have never seen anything quite like it

It's an odd and unique sort of take on the end of the world and what comes after, in which God literally abandons the world. I'm only 2 episodes in, but it definitely looks interesting so far

At the moment ReLIFE is popular but I think I will read the manga instead. Seen three eps of Planetarian: Chiisana Hoshi no Yume, which is cute but nothing exceptional.

Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu is quite popular (and I think should be good), but I am several episodes behind.

Re:Zero is good, albeit brutal in parts (it's like if the guy who made the Fate series binge-watched Konosuba and Erased in a weekend and decided to make a show out of his experience). The protagonist is not completely stupid all the time, which is an improvement over most such characters.

The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. is, to a first-order approximation, what One Punch Man would be if it were about a kid with psychic powers. Which is good, because I was expecting Mob Psycho 100 to be that and it turned out to be not so much.

The Morose Mononokean is reminiscent of Natsume Yuujinchou, and it's set up in a way to make the fujoshi happy although that isn't really the focus of it.

Cute Earth High Defence Club Love! LOVE! is more of the same, so if you liked it then there's MORE!

Besides that, if you want something fairly generic but done pretty well then I could recommend momokuri (girl stalks boy, girl asks boy out, boy says yes, girl doesn't stop stalking, standard romcom stuff), Sweetness & Lightning (essentially a single dad teacher and one of his students learning how to do home cooking together, you just have to squint hard enough that you don't notice the slightly creepy undertone), Amanchu! (girl moves to coastal town, makes friends with local crazy girl/scuba diver nut and has her whole life turned around) and possibly Re:Life (second best of the recent "Re" shows, guy with no life after quitting his first job three months in gets invited to experimental program where he takes a pill to make him look younger so he can attend high school again and learn how to socialise and stuff, there's a twist you'll probably guess in the first five episodes and then spend the rest of the show assuming you got it wrong because it couldn't be that obvious then in the last episode you realise it was).

I started reading Mob Pshycho 100, I would say it is less comical than One Punch Man.

I also started Saiki Kusuo, very fun indeed.
