Throughout the entirety of...ever... Simon never takes a pose remotely that aggressive.

What? Simon can kick ass when he needs to. He punches out Mal, and gets pretty violent when those guards are taking him, Jayne and River away.

Not to mention he tries to take out Jubal Early.

Even after he gets shot in the leg.

I'm not disputing that he shows signs of badassery in any number of episodes. But his look is always righteous indignation, rather than murderous.

I don't really disagree with you, but I think the look on Simons face when he punched out Mal in Serenity, and when he tackled Jubal was one of... maybe not indignation, but he certainly was unleashing his inner badass. Indignation came more when he was yelling down the townsfolk before they burned River, I'd say.

Simon is no Jayne, or Mal, or Zoey or Shepard, to be sure, conflict is something that makes his blood boil, whereas those four can treat it with the calm calculation of experience. But Simon isn't ENTIRELY a sniveling stiff collared weakling, only sort of. I'd say by the end of the series he's embraced a good deal of his inner badass.

You really don't get a true feeling of just how bad some of those covers are until you see them full-size. The ones he mentioned are so uncanny valley it hurts...

I'll give you that, Izzy. Though he showed signs of badassery early on:

Spoiler:
When he jumped Dobson from the upper deck in the pilot episode, and risked the wrath of Jayne by drugging him in Train Job. Also, for leaving his old life for River, which is impressive in itself.

His level of badassery isn't in contention. It's pretty far up there. It's more that he's being depicted as more aggressive than is the norm for him.

I'll agree on that. Mal and Inari just look so...what the hell is wrong with their face? And kaylee's neck is like a giraffe with a tiny tiny head. Simon's...there's just something wrong with it. I can't quite put my finger on it. Book, Wash, and Jayne look the best to me, with River's being alright.

Going to see Serenity on the big screen tomorrow... and a pretty lady from the interwebs. Hopefully she's not too much of a creeper.

I have to say though, as places to first meet go, that's pretty awesome.

I love Firefly, and I've only seen about half of the episodes. I'm catching up on it right now, with a marathon on the Science channel. :D

Prepare for feels.

Good and bad feels.

But far more good than bad.

Which is your favourite ep so far? My favourite's War Stories, but you won't have come to that yet.

Oh, hard to say.. Each episode seems better than the last one I watched, no matter what order I see them in. :P I don't think I could specify an episode right now, but there some parts that, to me, are just absolutely unforgettable. For example, I can't for the life of me find which episode it's from, but there's that one part where Simon takes the liberty to drug Jayne just because he "didn't feel comfortable with him in charge", which is what cemented the doctor as my favorite character. Who is yours?

I know right? It's pretty close with half the series though.

I really like the whole crew though, it's really hard to choose between Kaylee, Wash, Mal and Simon for me although I'd probably be leaning slightly towards Kaylee because she is just so gorram cheerful.

I hear you. I leant my firefly to a guy, only got it back ~6 months later and only got it back then because I started poking him for it 'cause he was about to go off to uni. And I've currently got my Dollhouse season 2 out for a similar length of time. I guess people don't like letting go of Joss' stuff.

Kaylee is adorable, and I am a fan of the whole Sinom/Kaylee undertone of some episodes. :)

Also, as of an hour and a half ago, I've now seen up through "Trashed", which leaves only 3 episodes for me to watch, I think.

Last episode is the best one, for me.

Jubal Early could well be my favourite character - AND HE'S NOT EVEN A REGULAR!
The death of Lady Diana was also predicted by Moby Dick.

Kaylee/Simon are so adorable together, particularly because of how stupid Simon is when it comes to talking to her (even though it's not exactly a secret that she likes him to).

The scene at the beginning of the Message (which I think would be one of those last three episodes IIRC) is fun though because he's starting to not be stupid.

Jubal is fun and, if there'd been a second series, I'd have loved to have had him in it. Still, I find I don't watch that episode as much as it deserves, maybe it's because it reminds me that it's over (I tend not to watch any of those on the last disc for the same reason I think).

Yep, I just saw that scene. I don't think he can get any lower than that, haha.

Of course, youtube had to take down the rest of the episode, so I've only seen the first 1/3 of it, and had a bitch of a time finding it elsewhere, but I'm watching those last three episodes now, because 20 years is too long to be alive and not able to honestly say, "I've watched Firefly." XD

My favorite episode is Ariel, if for nothing else than the confrontation between Mal and Jayne in the airlock at the end. That remains my favorite scene in the entirety of firefly.

That's got to be one of my favorite scenes. Ever since we saw what Jayne did, I was hoping there would be a proper confrontation scene, and that definitely lived up to, and surpassed, my expectations. :D

Couldn't agree more. But then again, I thought the whole episode was the top of the game. "Ariel" and then "Objects in Space". Wasn't a big fan of "The Message" or "Safe", but I'll happily watch any and all Firefly episodes over 90% of television right now.

Having just finished Serenity and thus the entire series for the first time, I have to say
Spoiler:
Inara was seriously the most useless character for the entire movie, but they kill Wash instead of her?!?!?! Seriously, despite the fact that she is assuredly going to get shot at, she goes into battle with less clothes than when she's "working", and I swear I saw her walk into the room before the Reavers get there, take a position, and then show up on the ship after it was all over. They weren't even trying to hide the fact that she had no real purpose in the movie other than how she looked. And so, you would think that since she lived and Wash died, at least there would be some sort of romantic union between her and Mal, since that is the other half of her bi-dimensionalism, but no. They just keep on playing their stupid games as if nothing happened. It's so frustrating.
