Agree with Ben Folds' "Brick", Billie Holiday's "Gloomy Sunday" (check out Bjork's cover), Jeff Buckley's "Hallelujah" (check out Imogen Heap's cover), and Reznor/Cash's "Hurt" (I personally prefer some of the NIN versions, and think Reznor singing it in the 90s might qualify as more depressing, thinking of someone young feeling they have nothing to offer anyone exempt to make them hurt).

The best cover of Gloomy Sunday is the Emilie Autumn version. Sadness just seems more real when she sings about it.
