What are you listening to?

It's only cool if no one's heard of it.

Having listened to it, I'm disappointed...I was hoping they'd keep going in the direction they took with MWPP, but this EP is just a return to their incoherent walls of noisey-electronic-acid-squirrel shit. Meh. It feels like they're moving backwards on this record, not forwards.

Right now, I'm listening to Crystal Silence by Chick Corea.

I disagree. Sure, it's not as accessible as MPP, but the sound is similar and I don't think it sounds like anything they've done before. It feels like a logical step to take. Still, I do like their "incoherent walls of noisey-electronic-acid-squirrel shit", like Here Comes the Indian.

Currently listening to Tape.

I love the new Animal Collective EP. I was worried that the breakout success of MPP would leave them trying to emulate it on every album after. Their constant innovation is part of what makes them so great, and I'm glad to see they aren't taking the easy way out.

Then again, I love psych drone and noise (Charalambides, Pocahaunted, Six Organs of Admittance at his most soundscapey), so besides acid rock Animal Collective has pretty much always been on the more accessible end of my psychedelic music radar.
