What are you listening to?

It's only cool if no one's heard of it.

If there's music dorks in here... does anyone know how iTunes works? If I delete a ton of music, how can I get my iTunes library to reflect this?

I'm afraid you've just stumbled upon one of the reasons music dorks generally don't use iTunes (at least on Windows, on Mac you don't actually have too many other good choices). This should be an inbuilt feature of iTunes, but it isn't.

First of all - did you delete the actual files iTunes was using (check to see if you can still play the tracks you deleted)? iTunes by default copies your music to its own library folder (you can change this somewhere in the advanced preferences), so if you deleted stuff outside that folder it's still there within iTunes. You can either delete it again from within the iTunes interface (select tracks, right click, remove), or delete everything in iTunes and re-add your remaining music.

If you did delete the actual files iTunes was using, the tracks which have been deleted will get little yellow exclamation marks beside them when you try to play them. This happens because Apple wants you to manage all your music in iTunes itself, and doesn't have a good way of dealing with you doing otherwise. In this case your best bet is either an applescript someone wrote or a kludgy (but fairly quick) workaround, both of which are listed here: http://apple.stackexchange.com/question ... ed-on-disk

This is mainly gleaned from online articles and what I vaguely remember, since I stopped using iTunes a while back, so I can't guarantee this'll work for the latest version.

Ruth Notman - Roaming

In the past few years there have been a load of really good female British folk singer/songwriters (trad folk, rather than indie folk - not that the indie folk scene isn't pretty lively at the moment as well) coming onto the scene. The quality of this generation is just astounding. Aside from Ruth there's Bella Hardy, Maz O'Connor, Georgia Ruth, Lucy Farrell, Josienne Clarke and probably others I don't know about.

I've been listening to a lot of Clutch lately. They're a brilliant hard rock band that's been around since the '90s. They blend in a lot of blues and jazz style. Clutch is one of those bands that most people haven't heard of, but that their favorite bands would cite as a major influence.

Step It Out Nancy as performed by Holly Near.

It's one of the most badass ballads I've heard in a while. It's about a woman (Nancy) who is forced to marry a wealthy cattle rancher by her father. The cattle rancher kills her lover (a poor cowboy), so that he won't get in the way of the marriage.

Nancy's response is to hide a gun in her wedding dress and kill the groom in front of all the wedding guests rather than marry him against her will.

A couple, actually. An EDM banger, kind of Alt-Electric-Pop, and Southern Gothic tune.

Autoerotique - Asphyxiation
Big Data - Dangerous
Schatzi and the String Boffin - Creek Don't Rise.

They're all pretty solid and fit different moods of the day, ha.

I've heard that Morriassy needs two things: A cheeseburger and a fuck, in no paticular order. I think that's about right.

Mad Season - Artificial Red

Layne Staley has got to have one of the most imitated voices in rock music, but none of the others comes close to his level of awesome.

For a moment there I mixed up "desert rock" and "desert blues" in my mind and was very confused about what I was hearing. Thanks for introducing me to desert rock though, I like it.

Carolus Rex by Sabaton. To be honest. The whole album, but this song gets stuck in my head and compels me to listen again and again.

Desert rock has always seemed like the sort of music a steampunk world would invent.

Deap Vally - Sistrionix (Full Album)

Yes yes yes, they're vaguely similar in instrumentation and band composition to The White Stripes and Death From Above, but you'll certainly find those comparisons are superficial and detract from the awesomeness that they bring to the table.

I haven't heard either of these songs since they were brief radio hit singles in the late 90's, and.... DAMN do I miss these guys. Seen them play three times, and you really don't get an idea for how much of a guitar genius this guy is, and how amazing they are live, from these songs off their first album.

I've just recently rediscovered Barenaked Ladies' album Grinning Streak through the music video for "Did I Say That Out Loud" and so I've just been listening to the album on repeat.

I got to see them live last year and it was incredible. "Gonna Walk" was particularly memorable (as well as a bunch of their classic stuff).

Emerson, Lake and Palmer - Karn evil 9, 1st impression, part 2 (aka Welcome Back my Friends). Scott Manley introduced his latest livestream with the opening lyrics, and I couldn't resist giving the original a listen. I can see this leading to an ELP marathon.
