Hey guys. A while back I posted a new album I'd done, but I realized that I never shared my first one with you.

Two years ago, I recorded a gritty, heavy album of rock songs. I started singing for the first time ever. Even though these songs are older, I still really love the sound of them as a whole. Highlights:

- "Break", a brooding industrial rock track that plays with dissonance and heavy chords.
- "Candy", a pounding rock number with eerie vocals and huge drums.
- "She Lives for Chastity", a grinding rock song with a sweet instrumental outro.
- "Give It Up", a catchy punk rock number with a bit of humor.
Baby, don't you know the world's okay? But you're all wrapped around these gears, dreaming that tomorrow is today.

I'll add more. In fact, there's two more I'll add in the next two weeks.
D-Lan; aka Midnight
The first song could use some... general clarity, but I like the shit-ton of reverb. The second song is acoustic; pretty folky.

edit three weeks later
I added 2 more songs up on that thar website. Another acoustic, another midtempo rock-ish one. I'm thinking about finally tracking a simple, real black sabbath-type song that's just riffs and solos.

So.1

Not strictly speaking me or my music, but a friend of mine and worth a good listen none the less.

It's a drum and bass tune with glitchy vocals and a pretty thweet synth bit2. Give it listen, and if you like it, be sure to comment. He's still in the nervous stage of reading everything written about it, so please give him an ego boost.

Bangers n Mash was a name that me, him, and one other guy thought up while drunk at weatherspoons, so I don't think it's sticking around long.

1longer soundcloud version here

2I know, I know, I just described about half the drum and bass songs ever

I published a little piece in December and decided to post here about it. It's a cycle of eleven simple, short pieces for solo piano called Eleven Gifts; they are devoted to a group of people that I became involved with during the last year and that had a significant impact in my life. The titles are just those letters, and they are all initials. The capitalisation is important.

Some of those pieces are actually very old; the melodies were salvaged from old projects that never went anywhere, stray sketches I had lying on my computer, or old compositions that I was never satisfied with. About half of them are completely new compositions, though. The whole set was written and recorded in three days, and I'm quite fond of it. If you have 15 spare minutes you can check out the whole thing, but if you have only three or four, check out i, j and l.

So, reddit is having a little music competition. The theme is the conflict in Egypt. I don't normally do theme compositions, because I have a difficult time getting in the mood to write and record something when prompted. But this time, I thought I'd give it a shot.

The song I wrote is called Crystal Clear, and it's about the use of power to silence the people.

I put together a badly edited bit of background music together for a game I wrote - http://www.toeofdoom.com/ludumdare/19/s ... flight.mp3
I like how it works with the game or in the background but if I pay any attention while listening it just doesn't sound that good.

We've just released our debut EP. According to a couple of the zines who have covered it so far, we classify as 'some sort of prog rock'. See what you reckon (click "the music" link to have a listen):-

Oh hey. Remember the post I made half a page earlier about a friend of mine making drum and bass? No? Can't even be bothered to look it up? Well, here's his second soundcloud approved effort. Drumstep this time and such serious quality that the only issue I have with it is the length. who makes a 3 min song anymore? Give it listen and a comment please, I'll be eternally grateful.

This weekend, I spent a couple of days laying down a brand new song. It's heavy, fast, and a lot better than I expected when I first sat down to record it. It's called "Ascertain This." I thought I'd share it with you guys.

Here's a few things of mine. Unfortunately they're all terrible midi recordings.

This is a movement for string trio (violin, viola, and cello) that I wrote a few years ago for a school project:

http://www.mediafire.com/?urp6fbv7y413qhm

This is a fugue for three voices in E minor for piano that I also wrote around the same time as the movement for string trio (and it was also for a school project):

http://www.mediafire.com/?h2nwk2nksg37dtj

This last one is a recent composition (I wrote it a few months ago). It's a movement for string quartet (two violins, a viola, and a cello). It's in A minor, with a middle section in Bb major:

Hey guys, I put out a suite/EP sort of thing about a month ago, and I'd like to get some more feedback on it. You can hear it on bandcamp at http://siberianbloodtiger.bandcamp.com. It's a mix of orchestral music and guitar and techno percussion, and there are some really different vibes in there, from heavy and driving to slow and powerful. I'd really appreciate hearing what you guys think, and any suggestions for getting more out there (think I can play this live? :) )

PS: There's candy at the bottom of the jar. Download the entire album for a little bonus or two.

Can't you hear the distortion all over the intro?

Anyway, we have a thread for posting you own stuff, be in mixes or music or whatever. It's here. I'm going to report your post to hopefully get it moved, but don't worry, it's not a sleight on your talents. Unless you have something you did that's big enough to warrant its own discussion, it goes where I linked.

I checked some of it out. You have unusual tastes on distortion and how it should be used. Unless that was accidental and you just didn't care.

Excuse the terrible synthesized instruments. I can play it IRL, but I don't have any sort of recording equipment.

http://soundcloud.com/orichalcum/from-me-to-you Something I made out of boredom, and I enjoyed listening to it, thought someone else might too. Please excuse the poor recording quality and lack luster technical execution - this was done with a cheap USB mic in a few takes using Audacity, so it's no work of art. Depending on what ye folks think about this, I might release something else.

Ready to be depressed?

I don't know what it is, but the hip-hop/dubstep hybrid, which I often find through The Joker or Matty G, finds me when I'm depressed. The source of my depression? The end of my freshman year in college. I had to make an extended stay until that weekend, and I had to watch all of my neighbors and friends leave. I experienced one of the most depressing nights of my life during that stay. When days feel like weeks, loneliness hits you like a bullet train, you begin to ask the big questions, and the wanted as well as unwanted memories start stabbing at your conscience. This track helped make the experience more bearable.

I truly think that, in terms of style, this will be one of my defining dubstep tracks. Give me some criticism so I can twerk the track to perfection and send the track to some freelance/underground channels and get some recognition.

The quoted section explains just about everything you need to know about that track. Please give me some criticism so I can fine-tune this beast.

Sounds fine, but I think the start is too slow. You start of with a very minimalist beat that sounds like everything else. 12 seconds in it starts to get interesting, but that's likely more than 2 seconds too late.

You might try starting with a very short section of that cool beat that comes it at like 0:12, drop it off to get in a few of you minimalist beats in, then transition to what is now 0:12 by 0:07 or so. Seriously, I think this is very important.

Also, I don't have any crappy speakers to listen on right now, but I suspect if you listen on crappy speakers, your bass line will get lost. If that's the case, try adding a touch (more?) distortion on it and see if that helped. You want your mix to translate reasonably.

As it is, it's great background music, not enough engaging stuff (like solo violin or lead synth or something adding in a few licks here and there) to make good foreground music, but it builds and swells nicely.
