Sufjan / Coldplay mashup

It's only cool if no one's heard of it.

Sufjan / Coldplay mashup

Postby gormster » Tue Jan 15, 2008 12:01 pm UTC

So, I noticed these two songs have the same chord structure and rhythm, so I couldn't help but fire up Pro Tools and mash these bitches (using the new Elastic Time thing... PT users out there, is this awesome? It's awesome.)

So, here it is: Sufjan Stevens vs Coldplay - Chicago / Clocks

Very entertaining.

Part because I love those songs to death, but the other because they actually do have slightly similar beats. Great find!

Acutally, part of my wished Coldplay and Sufjan did a concert together. I would die to see that.

Wow, that was pretty amazing! How much did you have to adjust the tempo of the songs?

i think most programs can adjust tempo.. audacity can, and it's free.

can you buy pro tools alone or do you NEED an mBox or whatever? if the latter, how's it suiting you?
uhhhh fuck.

The Audacity time shift is two shits on a biscuit compared to the Pro Tools one. Admittedly, it is almost identical (and when I say 'almost', I mean 'identical') to the one in Ableton Live. And yeah, you need an Mbox; you can buy Pro Tools by itself for $75 but it won't make any sound.

And, if you want to buy a sequencer, Pro Tools is the one you want. For one it comes with an extremely good interface for very little money (Mbox mini is $500 Australian). Also it is a piece of piss to use, and yet has features so advanced you can't even concieve of when you would need half of them. I love it, basically.

Two great songs... Morphed into one? Me gusta.

I loved it, great work. It's really interesting to sort out all the sounds and hear them connect and separate throughout the song.

This is the coolest mashup I've ever heard. The two songs on their own are good (looove Chicago), but I wasn't expecting to like them together.. I was wrong!

First part is verbatim what I was going to post.

Otherwise, it's golden.

Sweet mashup, though personally i would isolate only one of the vocals, whether it's sufjan and chris martin up to you. Check out a mashup I've done using ableton, I put Ludacris of all people on top of Sufjan's neo-folk. enjoy: http://www.myspace.com/weusedtomicrowave

Wow. That...is awesome.

It probably would be better, though, if you could fix the parts with overlapping vocals...run them separately, or cut one of them out, or something. They're mostly incomprehensible played on top of each other like that, and they don't blend very well. Otherwise, a very good song-merging.
