Ozzy Meets Buckethead -- Coming soon to a theater near you!

Ozzy Meets Buckethead -- Coming soon to a theater near you!

Postby Fat Tony » Thu Jan 17, 2008 6:35 pm UTC

Old news, but I just read this yesterday and thought it was rather interesting.
From a Revolver interview, referring to auditioning a guitarist for Ozzfest aught five:

Revolver: Have you held any auditions?

Ozzy Osbourne: "I tried out that Buckethead guy. I met with him and asked him to work with me but only if he got rid of the fucking bucket. So I came back a bit later and he's wearing this green fucking Martian's-hat thing. I said, 'Look, just be yourself!' He told me his name was Brian, so I said that's what I'd call him. He says, 'No one calls me Brian except my mother.' So I said, 'Pretend I'm your mum then!' I haven't even got out of the room and I'm already playing fucking mind games with the guy. What happens if one day he's gone and there's a note saying, 'I've been beamed up?' [Laughs] Don't get me wrong, he's a great player. He plays like a motherfucker!"

Upon reading this, I lost all my respect for Ozzy and gained so much for Buckethead.

why lose respect for ozzy? he's actually being fairly sensible.

i respect buckethead's bucket, but I figure in a private interview with ozzy osbourne or whatever, it's ok to take off the bucket.
uhhhh fuck.

They both get twenty style points, but Ozzy loses 10 for being in the Osbournes, and Buckethead loses 10 for being obsessed with his pseudonym.

Hey, Buckethead is just a normal guy, he just adopts the stage persona to have people focus less on his person, more on his music.
Ozzy is probably just insecure. He's too cool to have weird friends. (I jest, I jest)
On the offhand, Buckethead once tried out for the Red Hot Chili Peppers (at their invitation), and, though they liked what he did, they wanted someone who could "kick a groove."
Or something.

Because Ozzy wouldn't let him play because he refused to accept Buckethead's..."individuality." I think Bucket wins here because he didn't give in for some stupid gig. That'd be like Ozzy saying to me that I could play guitar for him if I shaved my head. I am proud of my hair and think it's a part of who I am; same with the bucket.

Yeah, although there could have been a misunderstanding, after all, ozzy didn't have a translator there...

Actually, he changes buckets. If it's a bucket of any sort, it has been on that man's head.

Not really. He's proud of his bucket the same way I'm proud of my hair. A bucket is a less common thing to be proud of, but it's still the same thing really.

i dunno. taking off the bucket.. the bucket can be put back on when he leaves his private interview. the hair, on the other hand, cannot be put back on within 5 seconds. Fastest case requires some sort of extensions to be put in which could take hours.
uhhhh fuck.

It wasn't just for the interview; Ozzy wanted Bucket to play the show without the bucket.

Isn't that why bucketheads live shows are cool? The fact that he plays them while wearing a bucket?

The bucket doesn't cover his eyes.
