Worst Cover ever?

Postby Flo3:16 » Mon Oct 27, 2008 9:29 pm UTC

Whats the worst coverversion you have ever heard? For me this---> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ur_4eeXH-4 takes the cake. I`m considering moving out of this country. I don`t want to live in a place were people are allowed to do something like this.

So whats your worst Cover ever?

Thursday did a cover of a Sigur Ros song that was pretty bad. Icelandic is not a beautiful language when someone who doesn't understand it is speaking it.
That, and Avril Lavigne's cover of Knockin' on Heaven's Door.

Pink, Mya, Lil Kim and Christina Aguilera doing Lady Marmalade is pretty horrendous, as is All Saints version of Under the Bridge.

311's version of "Love Song" took a boring song and made it worse.

Yeah I Agree on the Lady Marmelade, and Knoclin on heavens door ones. Especially Lady Marmelade, because over here they played it sooo much over the course of one year, it almost felt like a curse.

Gary Jules - Mad World.

That one, he improved.

Now, my vote for worst: Benzin - Rammstein, as remixed by Ad Rock.

With a less up-beat music and less shit music video it could be better, but...yeah, that wasn't good. :|

Ozzy cover of 21st Century Schizoid Man. It's horrible, don't listen to it.

Avril Lavigne - Chop Suey.

Not a great song in the first place, but...

I think Tool's "No Quarter" may in fact be slightly better than the led zeppelin original, though i like both versions.

In regards to this, I believe that Limp Bizkit has done several terrible live Tool covers. I am at least somewhat sure that he utterly raped Opiate. It was quite detestable.

Not meaning to be an hipster prick (though I will undoubtedly end up sounding that way)
Aethernox wrote:Limp Bizkit

Nuff said.

In my experience, most of the time my preference depends on which version I heard first. No Quarter is a good example. I heard the Led Zep version first, and although I can recognise the quality of the Tool version, I never really got into it. I love both Led Zep and Tool, so there's no unfair prejudice involved. There are of course exceptions; abysmal originals and fantastic covers, as well as (more commonly) the other way around.

Avril Lavigne again, this time singing Iris. Although technically it's a duet, but her parts are horrible.

I don't particular dislike Avril (it helps that she's pretty (sorry)), but that is awful.

Madonna - American Pie.

She left a whole damn verse or two out. You don't leave anything of that song out.

I think this isn't too bad. There's comic value to it. :p

I can't say I've heard the worst cover, or know what it is; but I reckon Avril Lavigne stuffed up Coldplay's "The Scientist", which I quite love.

This is EXACTLY what came to mind when I read the thread's title. I really hope her cover of this was actually a joke, or else that's a pretty sad attempt.

I could only make it into about ten seconds of the chop suey and iris covers. It actually gets worse on Iris? That's amazingly tragic.

TI;DR version: It isn't too bad to listen to because that guy is kind of an asshole and it sounds painful to sing like that. :) Not to mention that once a song reaches becomes that terrible, laughing at it is entertainment enough, although it's still pretty damn bad.
