Why I reckon Metal makes good action music

It's only cool if no one's heard of it.

Why I reckon Metal makes good action music

Postby Jackpot » Thu Nov 20, 2008 5:28 pm UTC

1) Fast tempo
2) Accompanied by a thuping double bass drum beat. This ensures tempo is kept in a subtle manner that allows for odd time signatures, but still keeps things going along
3) Use of power chords (fifth chords) which give the music strength
4) Use of dissonance and minor tonality, giving music struggle

agreements? disagreements?

although i'm not really a metal listener, i find that it makes good music for action scenes due to the basic idea that metal (according to metalheads) is AWESOME, BRUTAL, and let's not forget SICK. i find that we look for similar values in actions scenes, which makes metal a good choice. also, yes it is fast and uses weird scales which can add crazy tension to a scene.

Not all metal has those qualities, to be fair. And most music with a fast tempo makes good 'action' music, and it isn't an uncommon trait. Some metal may in fact fit action scenes well, many other genres (a good deal of them subgenres of electronica) are similarly able.

Agreed. I mean, is there anything better than the Star Wars soundtrack as background music for the Google Earth Flight Simulator? But I love metal for just about anything.

I think metal works better for less serious shit. After playing devil may cry I have a hard time taking action scenes seriously with metal in the background.
Fuck you, I'm the Crowing.
