Guitar - Tom Morello - RAtM, Audioslave, Nightwatchman
Vocals - Ozzy Osbourn - Black Sabbath
Drums - Chad Smith - Red Hot Chili Peppers
Bass - Chris Cain - We Are Scientists

I also like your idea a lot, but I think Mark Stoermer might not be the right bassist there.

This idea has already been done before in another thread, but I don't think I ever posted in it. Also, I refuse to post here unless there's a piano part, and to make the perfect band, it's gonna require more than one person from some bands. (Don't worry, my supergroup would have multiple people on the different instrument parts, so I wouldn't just be saying "here's a band, they're perfect.")

I'm gonna ignore the lineup restrictions in order to make the most awesome anything ever.

Lead guitar - Joe Satriani (Himself) - Nice and melodic, sometimes funky, sometimes heavy. Do want.
Rhythm guitar - Dan Donegan (Disturbed) - I really like his heavy, riffing, somewhat percussive style. Would hopefully sound awesome with Satriani.
Bass - Les Claypool (Primus) - Incredibly funky and unique. Will do wonders together with Donegans rhythm guitar.
Drums - Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater) - Seriously, he makes EVERYTHING interesting.
Keyboards - Christopher Bowes (Alestorm) - Mostly for the lulz, but this could become insanely epic.
Vocals - Tomi Joutsen (Amorphis) - A deep, nice growl and a beautiful clean voice. I was considering Mikael Åkerfeldt of Opeth, but I find his cleans a bit too beautiful, if you know what I mean.

Too bad this lineup doesn't exist outside my wet dreams. :( A nice blend of heavy, melodic, funky and unfathomably epic.

Drums: Neil Peart (Rush)
Bass: I dunno, me? (I wanna be in on this dammit)
Keyboardist: Jordan Rudess (Dream Theater
vocals: John Lennon (didn't say they had to be alive, also can be rhythm guitar)
Lead Guitar: Joe Satriani (Hellz yeah)

Tom Chaplin (keane) for vocals.
Matt Hales (Aqualung) on the piano.
Ronnie Vannuci (sp.) (The Killers) on drums.
Jonny greenwood (radiohead) on guitar.
And Colin Meloy writes for them.

All would fall under their might.

bass - matt freeman(rancid)
drums - Vinnie Fiorello(less than jake)
guitar/vocals - tom gable(against me)
guitar/vocals - tomas kalnoky(streetlight manifesto)

for my four person band but i'd also throw in a bunch of horn players for the perfect band.

"still alive and active" jam/funk band:

guitar - trey anastasio (phish)
keys - john gros (papa grows funk)
bass - george porter jr. (the meters)
drums - stewart copeland (the police)

dead, alive, and "back in their prime" jazz/fusion band:

trumpet - miles davis (pre-retirement/hiatus/silent period)
guitar - jimi hendrix (was actually supposed to make an album with miles before he died)
keys (fender rhodes) - henry butler (explosive jazz piano, and he's also superfunky)
organ - robert walter (greyboy allstars, and solo albums)
bass - charles mingus (listen to ah um. one of the top 5 jazz albums of all time)
drums - johnny vicacovich (astral project, professor longhair, solo...groovy jazz drummer from new orleans.)

new(er) rock type of band:
drums - chad smith (rhcp)
bass - d'arcy wretsky (smashing pumpkins)
guitar/vocals - dave grohl (nirvana, foo fighters)
keys/electronics/sounds - trent reznor

Vocals - Phil Anselmo
Bass - Rex Brown

Wait a second...

Fuck.

Let me try again, this time without describing Pantera.

Guitar - Dimebag (Pantera)
Vocals / OTHER GUITAR - Alexi Laiho (Children of Bodom)
Bass - Robert Trujillo (A bunch... Metallica, Ozzy, Black Label Society...)
Drums - (Mentioned before) Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater!)

Oh the metal....

Shoot....
--------
Staying within the restrictions:
Guitar: Peter Wichers of Soilwork
Bass: Dan Briggs of Between The Buried And Me
Drums: Jordan Mancino of As I Lay Dying
Vocals: Jesse Leach, formerly of Killswitch Engage
--------
ACTUALLY making the perfect band (Foreigners: Melodic Death/Power Metal):
Mikael Stanne of Dark Tranquility: Vocals
Alex Laiho of Children of Bodom: Lead guitar
Peter Wichers of Soilwork: Back-up guitar
Peter Iwers of In Flames: Bass guitar
Ettore Riggoti of Disarmonia Mundi: Keys/Clean Vocals/Writing
Anders Jivarp of Dark Tranquility: Drums
...I don't know any drummers or bassists, honestly. And Peter Wichers gets back-up guitar because he's slower and likes more distortion. Alex Laiho = best soloist I've ever listened to, period.
-------
I have an American band in mind, but compared to the foreign one, it'd pretty much pale in comparison, and I don't want to break the rules twice.

I'm surprised noone has mentioned Eric Clapton or Santana as a potential guitarist for one of these bands. They are both pretty damn talented.

I also don't think you can go past Mike Portnoy as far as drummers go. But that has been mentioned a few times.

This is the kind of thing where I'll never be completely happy with the line up I choose, but this one will do for the moment:

Vocals: Yamataka Eye (Boredoms)
Guitar: Wata (Boris)
Bass: Tom Jenkinson (Squarepusher)
Drums: Zach Hill (Hella)

Also John Zorn on Sax. Hell yes. Oh and Tom Jenkinson is banned from doing slap bass.

PS, yeah, this is just me trying to rack up cool points by mentioning obscure bands. They are good musicians though. :P

Second your recommendation of Tom Morello; he's amazing. A solid alternate would be Slash of GnR and Velvet Revolver fame; you just can't beat the top hat.

I've never much liked Ozzy as a singer, though I adore him in practically everything else he does because he's just so fucking weird. I'd have to choose either Soundgarden-era Chris Cornell (not present-day Cornell) or Mikael Akerfeldt of Opeth. They've both got great vocal ranges, and I think that's important. If it has to be present-day only, Akerfeldt for sure.

To be honest, I don't really keep up much on drummers, but Lars Ulrich of Metallica is talented, as is Martin Axenrot of Opeth.

Bass would have to be Tom Commerford of Rage Against the Machine/Audioslave. Flea of Red Hot Chili Peppers as an alternate.

Keeping with the rules set here, I'd do this:

Vocals: Soundgarden-era Chris Cornell (Soundgarden, Audioslave)
Lead Guitar: Saul Hudson, a.k.a. Slash (Guns n' Roses, Velvet Revolver)
Drums: Martin Axenrot (Bloodbath, Witchery, Opeth)
Bass: Tom Commerford (Rage Against the Machine, Audioslave)

But, really, I think one of the best bands used to be Audioslave, especially their debut album. Velvet Revolver was also pretty good.

I think I can do you one better in that vein:
Prince: Guitar (The Revolution)
Austra Chanel (Prince): Bass (Madhouse)
Prince: Drums (Prince)
Prince: Vocals (New Power Generation)

Ha!

Vocals: Tuomari Nurmio. Finnish guy, he does collabs with other bands.
Didgeridoo: Jay Atwood, of the Wicked Tinkers.
Piano: Chris Walla of Death Cab for Cutie.
Ukelele: Tiny Tim.

Ukelele needed instead of guitar to contrast deep tones of vocalist and didgeridoo.

I would call them Tollinix.

drums:
buddy rich. he's the best. i mean, a metal drummer can't play jazz, but a jazz drummer can make metal sound bloody amazing.

bass:
Me. but actually john entwistle. his style is amazing. Won't get fooled again? that's the other three members of the band giving him a song and saying "solo over this".

guitar:
hendrix, you can't go wrong. he's got such an amazing feel. he might hit wrong notes but it's ok, cause of perfect feel. which would go great with both Rich and Entwistle. plus, he can play ANYTHING.

rhythm guitar:
jimmy page. i think his style would meld great with jimi. heh. guitarists named jimmy. anyways--his sounds are so excellent and bluesy. Whole Lotta Love? that rhythm.. he'd do excellently. edit: OR ERIC CLAPTON on account of the bluesy beastiality. like his solos.. you listen to them, they're easy listening. you read the sheet music... whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat that's why it sounds so good! I mean, I saw him live with like, I forget who, someone like Jeff Beck who said "hey this is the solo i been working on for the past few weeks" and then when he's done clapton was like "Hey, I just NOW thought of a cool solo" and blew beck out of the water.

piano:
now, I would go with some kind of dead pianist but I'm not sure how well Horowitz or Rubenstien would work in a band with Hendrix and whatnot. SO I'll say Matthew Bellamy, from muse, cause not only does he DRAW from such greats as Rachmaninoff, he also plays heavy enough music that it'd be a perfect fusion. he can also play guitar if they need a third. EDIT: fourth, because clapton's third.

vocals:
tough one. might say matthew bellamy again, but his voice can get kinda dull, so perhaps.. oh of course. how did i not think of it. John Lennon. It's ideal. Recognizable, but not abrasive in any way (bellamy can do too much falsetto. lot of people don't like roaring so that puts plenty of people out.) also if he duets with Aretha Franklin often, then we're perfect.
uhhhh fuck.

Vocals - Mikael Akerfeldt (Opeth) and Cristina Scabbia (Lacuna Coil) ... I like the back and forth style of Gothic Metal bands
Lead Guitar - Micheal Amott (Arch Enemy) ... He's incredible.
Rhythm Guitar - Mikael Akerfeldt (Opeth) ... He's already singing, so here he goes.
Bass - Paul Simonon (The Clash) ... The Guns of Brixton is great. He's the only bassist that I really know, too.
Drums - Jan Axel "Hellhammer" Blomberg (Dimmu Borgir) ... Really fast feet. Max Duhamel of Kataklysm if I can't get Hellhammer.

@Themata: If only Akerfeldt had enough arms to play all that! But, my band for Akerfeldt you go like this:
Vocals - Mikael Akerfeldt
Lead Guitar - Mikael Akerfeldt
Rhythm Guitar - Mikael Akerfeldt
Acoustic Guitar - Mikael Akerfeldt
Bass - Mikael Akerfeldt
Drums - Someone else
