Fat suits ftw ^_^

it's slightly surreal seeing them move around like average sized people whilst looking fat :D

Well, I've got a couple of favorites,

Mogwai's "Travel Is Dangerous" is neat, and kinda sad/poignant
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1tuGrEynG68

Nine Inch Nail's "Closer" is just a creepy piece of art
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QWncI51ggH8

And, my favorite Queens of the Stone Age clip, "Go With The Flow", in all its rotoscoped red, white and black glory.

I have to second the Talking Heads. The Stop Making Sense DVD is always one step ahead of win.

I know the one video rule, but I'd argue that these pretty distinct, and if you don't want to see them, don't.

Black Star (feat. Common) -- Respiration
Lindsey Buckingham -- Shut Us Down
Marvin Gaye -- What's Going On (etc)
Aphex Twin -- 4
Radiohead is good (Scotch Mist), but people talk about that enough
Joanna Newsom -- Bridges and Balloons This is live, and consists of picking and singing, a genre which should be covered by Mr. Buckingham. Also, some people don't like her voice. I love it, but I'm a big fan of John Cale's work in the Velvet Underground too. YMMV.

That is all mostly for the music. Gondry and Jonze made some good videos too, but that is separate for me.

Again, it's all Gondry videos for me. I have a DVD of his work, which is just endless brilliance. This is one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen, and then you have the mind-warping madness of Everlong.

"Peaches" by PUSA is a pretty funny song, plus the video's got ninjas. Also, their new video for "Mixed Up S.O.B." is pretty awesome.

There's way too many videos which I love, but the one which is my firm favourite is Hifana's 'Wamono'. I saw this at at a Japanese music video event at the Edinburgh Film festival yeas ago, and was blown away.

Hifana - Wamono

Yaaay for Gondry! The Director Label set of DVD's are ace. Joga is a triumph, but my personal favourite of the Gondry DVD is Bjork's Bachelorette. I love Gondry's penchant for loops and cycles in his music videos, like it's the tablature of the song in film form. In general I adore music videos when they're done well, and aspire to directing/animating them, hence the Gondry love.
i dare you to take me on...

Tonto by Battles is prolly my favorite music video ever. I implore you to watch it. They played for a marathon 11 hours to make this music video.

Vincent Moon is the director. Simply beautiful, more like film than music video. All of the videos are essentially live public shows. The basic goal is to get theses artists to play anywhere other than on stage or at any sort of venue. For example, The Arcade Fire plays "Neon Bible" in an elevator. Flippin sweet!

Vincent has covered 82 bands at the time of this post. It's worth checking out!!!

I lost a day or so to this site a couple of weeks back - I think I remember one of Animal Collective singing while pushign band members around in trolleys. Fantastic.

Anyway, my contribution for now:

Davyan Cowboy, by the Boards of Canada - Contains footage of that crazy parachute jump from the edge of space. Fantastic continuation at the end, and great chilled music to go with it:

I'll watch any Bruce Cockburn Video.

Why?

Because Bruce Cockburn is not content to have a 3-5 minute sequence of collected shots of him playing the guitar.

Instead there will be the essence of the song acted out in visceral abstract. (see-Lovers in a Dangerous Time)

P.S. @ work now...will link to a video when I have un-websensed access

One of the saddest songs ever...

Most sad things are about bad things happening to the songwriter or to someone they knew.

I think it might be sadder when a song is about the regret of doing something horrible to someone else. There a few songs like this, but I think this takes the cake for how horrible that past deed was, and the magnitude of the regret by the songwriter.

Dragonforce: Fury Of the Storm. I can't seem to find the vid anywhere, so here's a synopsis: Band is playing on top of a mountain when the sky gets dark. A giant spaceship comes down. There is a Rock Battle with the spaceship. Some Guitar Hero is played between the band members. The spaceship explodes. The sun rises and the sky clears for a new day to begin.
EPIC AS HELL.

Just to get it out of the way, this is the best music video of all time IMHO:
KoRn - Freak on a Leash

Here's one I'm rather fond of, though I know not why:
The Offspring - Get A Job

Best use of not-quite-stop motion:
The White Stripes - The Hardest Button to Button

Nothing special but it makes me happy to see all that happy dancing:
Rusted Root - Send Me On My Way

The one second clip at the end of this makes me giggle:
Lemon Demon - The Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny

For fun jump rope dancing and tricks:
Yves Larock - Rise Up

This one'll get stuck in your head (and the little girl with the umbrella makes me smile):
Bob Sinclair - Love Generation

And another classic:
Blind Melon - No Rain

which Weird Al parodied:
Weird Al - Bedrock Anthem

This video is very nearly hypnotic.
