It's only cool if no one's heard of it.

Oh, tough question. I'll list some of my favorites, I suppose.
All time:
Iron & Wine- "Such Great Heights" (Yes, I know that it's a cover...)
Elton John- "Can You Feel the Love Tonight?" (Easily one of my favorite songs ever. <3)
Explosions in the Sky-"The Only Moment We Were Alone" (Okay, it's instrumental, but it counts.)
Frank Sinatra-"The Last Dance" and "The Way You Look Tonight"
Mates of State- "Like U Crazy" (Listen!)

Others:
Iron & Wine- "Fever Dream"
The Beatles-"I Want to Hold Your Hand" (Fun, playful, and straight to the point)
Bright Eyes-"First Day of My Life"

I don't know about individual songs, but the album 69 Love Songs by The Magnetic Fields is exactly as the title says and is bloody brilliant.

"Almost Lover" by a fine frenzy and "Over and Over" by Three Days Grace come to mind.
Apparently Over and Over was written in rehab about drugs, not a woman... but I prefer to think of it as the latter. It's certainly more relatable than the former :)

I'm not a big fan of Muse these days, but past events have given Endlessly unshakable romantic connotations in my mind.

It isn't just a love song (though that seems to be a strong theme), but Only Skin by Joanna Newsom is so phenomenal that I have to mention it.

Time for some metal up in this love biznizz.

This Love

NO, not that fucking Maroon 5 bullshit, this is one of THE BEST Pantera tracks ever.

Technically it's not a love song in the traditional sense. I mean, the video depicts a prostitute murdering someone. I think it was in self defence, in her defence, but I could be wrong.

Anyway, where was I going with this?

Oh right.

That's as close to a love song as I enjoy, so y'all can deal. :3

Seconding God Only Knows. Damn was Pet Sounds a work of genius.

On the Bus Mall by the Decemberists
Spoiler:
In matching blue raincoats,
Our shoes were our show boats
We kicked around.
From stairway to station
We made a sensation
With the gadabout crowd.
And oh, what a bargain,
We're two easy targets
For the old men at the off-tracks,
Who've paid in palaver
And crumpled old dollars,
Which we squirreled away
In our rat trap hotel by the freeway.
And we slept-in Sundays.

Your parents were anxious,
Your cool was contagious
At the old school.
You left without leaving
A note for your grieving
Sweet mother, while
Your brother was so cruel.
And here in the alleys
Your spirits were rallied
As you learned quick to make a fast buck.
In bathrooms and barrooms,
On dumpsters and heirlooms,
We bit our tongues.
Sucked our lips into our lungs
'til we were falling.
Such was our calling.

And here in our hollow we fuse like a family,
But I will not mourn for you.
So take up your makeup
And pocket your pills away.
We're kings among runaways
On the bus mall.
We're down
On the bus mall.

Among all the urchins and old Chinese merchants
Of the old town,
We reigned at the pool hall
With one iron cue ball
And we never let the bastards get us down.
And we laughed off the quick tricks--
The old men with limp dicks--
On the colonnades of the waterfront park.
As 4 in the morning came on, cold and boring,
We huddled close
In the bus stop enclosure enfolding.
Our hands tightly holding.

But here in our hollow we fuse like a family,
But I will not mourn for you.
So take up your makeup
And pocket your pills away.
We're kings among runaways
On the bus mall.
We're down
On the bus mall.
We're down
On the bus mall.
Down on the bus mall.
Oh ooh oh

Grace Cathedral Hill also by the Decemberists
Spoiler:
Grace Cathedral hill
All wrapped in bones of setting sun
All dust and stone and moribund
I paid twenty-five cents to light
A little white candle
For a New Year's Day
I sat and watched it burn away
Then turned and weaved
Through slow decay
We were both a little hungry
So we went to get hot dog

Down to Hyde Street Pier
The light was slight and disappeared
The air it stunk of fish and beer
We heard a Superman trumpet
Play the national anthem

And the world may be long for you
But'll never belong to you
But on a motorbike
When all the city lights
Blind your eyes tonight
Are you feeling better now?

Some way to greet the year:
Your eyes all bright and
Brim with tears
The pilgrims, pills, and tourists here
Will sink fifty-three bucks to buy
A brand new halo

Sweet on a green-eyed girl
All fiery Irish clip and curl
All brine and piss and vinegar
I paid twenty-five cents to light
A little white candle

And the world may be long for you
But'll never belong to you
But on a motorbike
When all the city lights
Blind your eyes tonight
Are you feeling better now?

To Ramona by Bob Dylan
Spoiler:
Ramona, come closer,
Shut softly your watery eyes.
The pangs of your sadness
Shall pass as your senses will rise.
The flowers of the city
Though breathlike, get deathlike at times.
And there's no use in tryin'
T' deal with the dyin',
Though I cannot explain that in lines.

Your cracked country lips,
I still wish to kiss,
As to be under the strength of your skin.
Your magnetic movements
Still capture the minutes I'm in.
But it grieves my heart, love,
To see you tryin' to be a part of
A world that just don't exist.
It's all just a dream, babe,
A vacuum, a scheme, babe,
That sucks you into feelin' like this.

I can see that your head
Has been twisted and fed
By worthless foam from the mouth.
I can tell you are torn
Between stayin' and returnin'
On back to the South.
You've been fooled into thinking
That the finishin' end is at hand.
Yet there's no one to beat you,
No one t' defeat you,
'Cept the thoughts of yourself feeling bad.

I've heard you say many times
That you're better 'n no one
And no one is better 'n you.
If you really believe that,
You know you got
Nothing to win and nothing to lose.
From fixtures and forces and friends,
Your sorrow does stem,
That hype you and type you,
Making you feel
That you must be exactly like them.

I'd forever talk to you,
But soon my words,
They would turn into a meaningless ring.
For deep in my heart
I know there is no help I can bring.
Everything passes,
Everything changes,
Just do what you think you should do.
And someday maybe,
Who knows, baby,
I'll come and be cryin' to you.

Also, I know Springsteen's kinda, well, lame now, but back in the day he was very good, and I've always had a soft spot for the song Mary, Queen Of Arkansas, in a large part for the supposed ugliness of a lot of the imagery.
Spoiler:
Mary queen of Arkansas, it's not too early for dreamin'
The sky is grown with cloud seed sown and a bastard's love can be redeeming
Mary, my queen, your soft hulk is reviving
No, you're not too late to desecrate, the servants are just rising

Well, I'm just a lonely acrobat, the live wire is my trade
I've been a shine boy for your acid brat and a wharf rat of your state
Mary, my queen, your blows for freedom are missing
You're not man enough for me to hate or woman enough for kissing

The big top is for dreamers, we can take the circus all the way to the border
And the gallows wait for martyrs whose papers are in order
But I was not born to live to die, and you were not born for queenin'
It's not to late to infiltrate, the servants are just leavin'

Mary queen of Arkansas, your white skin is deceivin'
You wake and wait to lie in bait and you almost got me believin'
But on your bed, Mary, I can see the shadow of a noose
I don't understand how you can hold me so tight and love me so damn loose

But I know a place where we can go, Mary
Where I can get a good job and start out all over again clean
I got contacts deep in Mexico where the servants have been seen

Suckers by Reel Big Fish.
Spoiler:
Hey everybody I’ve got somethin’ to tell it's what I learned from relationship hell
Lust turns to disgust a heart of gold into rust a soft touch to a slap in the
face- it gets old it goes away

This one's for all the suckers who still believe in love, this one's for you.
This one’s for all the suckers who still believe in love, this one’s for you.
It never works but we keep tryin' like fools learning and breaking the rules
At first you're excited then you're less than delighted by the end you wish
they would drop dead it can't last, it's gone so fast

This one's for all the suckers who still believe in love, this one's for you
This one’s for all the suckers who still believe in love, this one’s for you

Aww I just ruined it.
Day after day, day after day,
We stuck, nor breath nor motion;
As idle as a painted ship
Upon a painted ocean.

This must be the place by Talking Heads

Spoiler:
Home is where i want to be
Pick me up and turn me round
I feel numb - burn with a weak heart
(so i) guess i must be having fun
The less we say about it the better
Make it up as we go along
Feet on the ground
Head in the sky
It's ok i know nothing's wrong . . nothing

Hi yo i got plenty of time
Hi yo you got light in your eyes
And you're standing here beside me
I love the passing of time
Never for money
Always for love
Cover up + say goodnight . . . say goodnight

Home - is where i want to be
But i guess i'm already there
I come home - -she lifted up her wings
Guess that this must be the place
I can't tell one from another
Did i find you, or you find me?
There was a time before we were born
If someone asks, this where i'll be . . . where i'll be

Hi yo we drift in and out
Hi yo sing into my mouth
Out of all tose kinds of people
You got a face with a view
I'm just an animal looking for a home
Share the same space for a minute or two
And you love me till my heart stops
Love me till i'm dead
Eyes that light up, eyes look through you
Cover up the blank spots
Hit me on the head ah ooh

I guess I'm the odd one out here, because I'm entirely unmoved by Explosions in the Sky. I think First Breath After a Coma is a decent song at parts, but for the most part I just find them boring.

The Cure's "Love song" is really great cause it's just.. everything.

Muse's "unintended", from their first album.

I mean...
Spoiler:
"You could be my unintended choice to live my life extended,
you could be the one I'll always love.
You could be the one who always listens to my deepest inquisitions
You could be the one I'll always love.

And You And I by Yes

Coming quickly to terms of all expression laid,
Emotion revealed as the ocean maid,
All complete in the sight of seeds of life with you.

In The End by Rush

Well, I can shine like you shine
It doesn't make me brighter
But if I think like you think
It don't make my load much lighter

Drive in Saturday by David Bowie

His name was always Buddy
And he'd shrug and ask to stay
She'd sigh like Twig the Wonder Kid
And turn her face away

She's uncertain if she likes him
But she knows she really loves him
It's a crash course for the ravers
It's a Drive-in Saturday

I think Made-Up Love Song #43 by The Guillemots is a lovely little ditty.

"I love you through sparks and shining dragons, I do"

Others which provoke sighs/pining, depending on my mood.

Lamb - What Sound
Badly Drawn Boy - How?
Bjork - All Is Full of Love/Unravel/Violently Happy
Feist - Mushaboom
Four Tet - Smile Around The Face and My Angel Rocks Back and Fourth - Not conventional love songs, but both sound like what falling in love should be.
i dare you to take me on...

And I think I have to mention Ramona by Guster, because I was fruitlessly looking for it online when I went to Pandora and it popped up immediately. That was kind of bizarre.

Yes! Yes! Not only a great song in its own right, but that's one of the few tracks with lyrics that I could isolate and hang on my wall as a prime piece of poetry. I wouldn't add/take away a single thing to/from it.

There are a few love songs that come to mind.

Lamb - Gorecki
Lamb - Gabriel
The Beatles - In My Life
Madness - It Must be Love :D

I don't really do the whole sappy love song thing, but sometimes good to listen to.

My favorite love songs are Love Story by Taylor Swift and Always be my baby of DAvid Cook. The songs are very catchy and good for the heart.
