Upcoming Album Thread

Postby Aleril » Wed May 13, 2009 8:22 am UTC

One of the bigger albums it seems that is coming out is Green Day's 3 act album: 21st Century Breakdown, and I am excited.

There is also new Iron and Wine coming out as well as Beastie Boys, Dave Matthews Band, 311, and so on and so forth.

What are you excited for in the upcoming weeks/months/years/decades/centuries/millennia?

The Iron and Wine album isn't new as such, it's a double album of B-sides and rarities etc. I am looking forward to it though.

Here's some of the albums I'm looking forward to over the next few months:

May: Jason Lytle, Phoenix, Grizzly Bear, The Field, Passion Pit, Iron and Wine

June: Eels, Sonic Youth, Sunset Rubdown, Tortoise, Wilco, Patrick Wolf, God Help the Girl (side-project from Stuart Murdoch of Belle and Sebastian)

July: Riceboy Sleeps, The Fiery Furnaces

August: Mew

Persuader. Though I don´t know if it will see the light of day this year. Doesn´t even have a name yet. But I´m hopeful.

Deftones - Eros
TMV (The Mars Volta) - Octahedron
Breaking Benjamin - no name yet
Chevelle - still in process

I cant stand Green Day anymore...I just cant do it.
Before I could tolerate em but to me they are just too far gone.

New Maudlin of the Well, sometime this year. It's a digital-only release, but, yeah, I'm more than a bit excited by that.
Also, new Circle Takes the Square and Converge, dates still unannounced for those as well. And, hopefully, the final City of Caterpillar and Pg. 99 split will be released this year, but I don't have my hopes up on that one since I've heard almost nothing about it since it's been announced.

So Many Dynamos- The Loud Wars (06/09/09)

I cannot wait for this album. Everything I've heard from them has blown me away, and this is their first release on a major label (Vagrant) and from what I've heard of it so far, it is just amazing. Plus they are playing near here the day after it comes out!

It's gonna be fucking awesome.

For anyone who claims to like music, I highly recommend checking them out. They are everything that is great about making sound.

The new Manic Street Preachers album will be out in less than a week, and I hope a local record store will have it. I listened to a leak and it's amazing.

There's also the new Dream Theater album next month. I'm not really too excited for new releases right now.

I'm looking forward to Sonic Youth's new album The Eternal. I was looking forward to Metric's "Fantasies" but I didn't end up liking it that much when I got it.

Paradise Lost's last album saw them venture back into gothic metal territory so it will be pretty interesting to see if they will return to the more deathy sound they had on their earlier albums.

The Twilight Sad release their second album in September. Their debut was one of my favourites of 2007, they're one of the best new British bands of recent years so I'm looking forward to this one a lot.

Oh this has been a great year for music and I can't wait for a few releases, most notably:

Wintersun - Time
New Diablo Swing Orchestra
New Unexpect
New Stolen Babies
Streetlight Manifesto - 99 Songs of the Revolution
New Gamma Ray

Probably some other stuff I'm forgetting.
There aren't enough positive adjectives to describe how wonderful I am.

I cannot wait for Wilco to finally come out in cd copy. This album has exceeded everything else I have listened to this year by leaps and bounds.
This was a terrible accident.

The Eternal by Sonic Youth. I've already downloaded it, but I'm going to buy it anyway. I feel kind of morally obligated to buy at least 1/3 of the albums I own, and I like Sonic Youth a lot, so they get my money this time around.

First and self-titled album by Chickenfoot.
The band is composed of Sammy Hagar, Joe Satriani, Michael Anthony, and Chad Smith.

I've listened to it many times through so far, and all I can say is that the riffs are not new, but still amazing to listen to.

Also if you buy a physical copy, the case it comes in is printed with heat sensitive ink...

Darkest Hour's got a new album coming out June 23rd, first one without their old lead guitarist/songwriter Kris Norris.

Since this thread hasn't been updated in a while, I'm particularly pretty psyched for the new Pearl Jam, Flaming Lips, and Muse albums. Mew has already been mentioned. I want their first album mainly because of the panda on the cover, and then the music.

The tracklisting for the new Muse album is hilarious, they've definitely looked in the prog rock handbook for song titles. Stil not sure if I am looking forward to it, I loved the first half of Black Holes but thought the album fell off a cliff in the second half.

Anyway my updated schedule for the remainder of the year (confirmed albums anwyay):

July: Riceboy Sleeps, Cornershop
August: The Fiery Furnaces (UK release), Mew, Mum
September: Yo La Tengo, Vivian Girls, Dodos, The Twilight Sad (might be October now), Islands, The Hidden Cameras, Muse (see above)
October: Charlotte Hatherley

There's a possible new Joanna Newsom album this autumn, but no concrete word yet - I really hope it comes to pass though.

And yeah The Flaming Lips - is that confirmed for September yet?

Ooohh, Wintersun? I am excited now..

I believe In Mourning is coming out with something relatively soon. Their last release was in Feb of '08. I hope they wait about a year and a half to put out new things.

New DT is awesome, just putting it out there.
I'm excited for even more Devin Townsend (apparently there's another 3 albums due out this year) new PT and new Muse. And really really hoping that Pain of Salvation can get past all their record label problems and get their almost-finished album out.

The other three Devin Townsend albums won't necessarily be out this year, last time I heard the next one will be out probably in November or something.

I am very excited for the new Muse album, and can't wait to see what Bellamy has done with the orchestra. I'm also looking forward to Arctic Monkey's next album, though it will probably be more like their last album, which I thought only had a couple of great tracks.

I'm STILL waiting for 99 Songs of the Revolution.

Luminous Night by Six Organs of Admittance. I don't expect it to be near the level of albums like School of the Flower, but the fact that Randall Dunn is producing it has me intrigued.
