Breaking The Fourth Wall

Postby krazykate » Fri Sep 18, 2009 1:27 pm UTC

When I worked at a summer camp we played "the wiggalow". It seems pretty specific to my camp because I can't find it anywhere on the internet. Maybe it goes by a different name at other camps or something. whatever. Everyone would keep time with a simple stomp-clap-stomp-clap, and someone would start us off:

Alice: Hey Bob!
Bob: Hey what?
Alice: Are you ready?
Bob: For what?
Alice: The wig!
Bob: wig what?
Alice: the wiggalow!
Bob: My hands are high, my feet are low, and this is how I wiggalow! [bob does a little dance]
everyone: his hands are high, his feet are low, and this is how he wiggalows! [everyone does bob's dance]
Bob: hey Charlie...

That looks weird typed out, but it's really easy to play because of how simple the words are and how simple the stomp/clap rhythm is.

Recently I came across Bobby McFerrin, who improvises music with the help of the audience.

So cool! So what I'm wondering is, what other audience-participation songs are there out there? Did you play any games like the wiggalow when you were a kid? Is there a name for this genre? acapella just doesn't do it justice.

I think they changed it to "Wigalow" to not get confused with male prostitutes.
But I, being poor, have only my dreams. I have spread my dreams under your feet; tread softly, because you tread on my dreams.

In girl scouts we did stuff like this all the time. There was Father Abraham with many sons, Herbert the worm, Mr. Toad. I just call them camp songs.
