Snog Lyrics

Postby mrguy753 » Tue May 22, 2007 12:40 am UTC

The quotes thread inspired me to start a thread for people's favorite lyrics from songs. Then, the search thingy told me it hasn't been done yet. So, here we go!

from The Trapeze Swinger, by Iron and Wine
Please, remember me
Fondly
I heard from someone you're still pretty
And then
They went on to say
That the pearly gates
Had some eloquent graffiti
Like "We'll meet again"
And "Fuck the man"
And "Tell my mother not to worry"

Really, I love that song. It's nine and a half minutes of beautiful, melancholy, folky goodness. I don't know if the lyrics have the same effect written out, but sung they are amazing.

from On the Radio, by Regina Spektor
this is how it works
you're young until you're not
you love until you don't
you try until you can't
you laugh until you cry
you cry until you laugh
and everyone must breathe
until their dying breath

This one also is better sung, but I love it because it's so simple. It gives obvious advice, but sometimes I think people need to hear it. I know I do.

So, what are some other XKCDer's favorite lyrics?

Moderator General:Please do not just continually dump lyrics of every song you listen to in this thread. Let's try to have some amount of discussion plzkthxbai. :D
I sing anyway.

Tom Waits:
We sail tonight for Singapore
We're all as mad as hatters here
I've fallen for tawny moor
Took off to the land of Nod
Drank with all the Chinamen
Walked the sewers of Paris
I danced along a colored wind
Dangled from a rope of sand
You must say goodbye to me

We sail tonight for Singapore
Don't fall asleep while you're ashore
Cross your heart and hope to die
When you hear the children cry.
Let marrow bone and cleaver choose
While making feet for children shoes
Through the alley
Back from Hell
When you hear that steeple bell
You must say goodbye to me.
"What's wrong with you mathematicians? Cake is never a problem."

I have sort of anthems for various portions of my life. One from two years ago (so glad that phase of my life is done):

Assemblage 23 - Fallen Down

I've seen this face before
It somehow looks familiar
Tattered and weatherworn
A sad, pathetic creature

And once you stood so strong
Your eyes alight with promise
You vowed to carry on
A heart once beat in your chest

Cut forward to another day
Another time, another place
You're not who you used to be
And I wonder why

I knew you once
When you were young
Before you knew
What you'd become
But that was then
And this is now
You've lost your way
You've fallen down

You can't just walk away
You can't choose to ignore me
I stand in front of you
A stranger stands before me

What happened to the boy
Head filled with aspirations
His dreams within his reach
His life a celebration?

Cut forward to another day
Another time, another place
You're not who you used to be
And I wonder why

I knew you once
When you were young
Before you knew
What you'd become
But that was then
And this is now
You've lost your way
You've fallen down

And now there's nothing left
Your face a pale reflection
With only emptiness
You've lost your life's direction

What happened to the man
Who couldn't be defeated
Who always stood his ground
When lesser men retreated?

Cut forward to another day
Another time, another place
You're not who you used to be
And I wonder why

I knew you once
When you were young
Before you knew
What you'd become
But that was then
And this is now
You've lost your way
You've fallen down
He does not spout ever more, new stupidities. He "diversifies his wrongness portfolio."

Hmmm, so many to pick from? How do I choose one?

My favorite lyric of all time would have to be:

Itsukano Kagayaki suteta
Kaerenai asa no hikari noyou

From Half Pain (the closing theme to Witch Hunter Robin.

It translates as:

So long ago, I threw away my brightness
And like the light of the morning sun, it can never return.

Was listening to my music, and found another I love:

Breakable, by Ingrid Michaelson (I learned about her from these forums!)
Have you ever thought about what protects our hearts?
Just a cage of rib bones and other various parts.
So it's fairly simple to cut right through the mess.
And to stop the muscle that makes us confess.

We are so fragile,
And our cracking bones make noise,
And we are just,
Breakable, breakable, breakable, girls and boys.

A wee bit sobering, no?
I sing anyway.

Dead Kennedys - Kill The Poor

Efficiency and progress is ours once more
Now that we have the Neutron bomb
It's nice and quick and clean and gets things done

This song is fucked up. It really embodies the insanity of reagan.
You've just lost twenty dollars and my self respect.

Just different ways to kill the pain the same.

But I'd rather have a bottle in front of me,
Than have to have a frontal lobotomy.
I might be drunk, but at least I'm not insane.

Great song, that. :)

It's funny. I don't consider myself religious, and I've always hated going to church. But I have a great fondness for some modern Catholic ecclesiastical music. There's a certain hymn, based off the 23rd psalm, that I've always liked:

Though I should wander
the valley of death,
I fear no evil,
for you are at my side,
your rod and your staff,
my comfort and my hope.

Shepherd me O God
Beyond my wants
Beyond my fears
From death into life

And there's this one part of the closing song to Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha (shut up) that I quite like. It's translated as something like "Make a little wish on the lemon-colored drops of the moon", but I like the way it sounds in the Japanese/Japified English mixture:

Make a little wish REMON iro no tsuki no shizuku atsumete
კაცი ბჭობდა, ღმერთი იცინოდაო
k'atsi bch'obda, ghmerti itsinodao
"Man was discussing, God was laughing"

Fade Away - Ten Foot Pole

I'm not going to waste no more of the good life
Watching you fade away
Hands on a watch
Turn like the wheels on a train
And the days turn to weeks
The months seem the same

Time is relative :)

Right Where It Belongs - Nine Inch Nails

what if everything around you isn't quite what it seems?
what if all the world you think you know is an elaborate dream?
and if you look at your reflection, is that all you want to be?

Dashboard Confessional - Dusk and summer

She smiled in a big way, the way a girl like that smiles
When the world is hers and she held your eyes
Out in the breezeway down by the shore in the lazy summer
And she pulled you in, and she bit your lip, and she made you hers
She looked deep into you as you lay together quiet in the grasp of dusk and summer

But you've already lost
When you only had barely enough to hang on

And she combed your hair, and she kissed your teeth
And she made you better than you'd been before
She told you bad things you wished you could change in the lazy summer
And she told you, laughing down to her core, so she would not cry as she lay in your lap
She said "nobody here can live forever, quiet in the grasp of dusk and summer"

But you've already lost
When you only had barely enough to hang on

She said, "no one is alone the way you are alone"
And you held her looser than you would have if you ever could have known
Some things tie your life together, slender threads and things to treasure
Days like that should last and last and last

But you've already lost
When you only had barely enough of her to hang on

That song touches a large part of me.

Disenchanted - My chemical romance

Well I was there on the day
They sold the cause for the queen,
And when the lights all went out
We watched our lives on the screen.
I hate the ending myself,
But it started with an alright scene.

It was the roar of the crowd
That gave me heartache to sing.
It was a lie when they smiled
And said, "you won't feel a thing"
And as we ran from the cops
We laughed so hard it would sting

Yeah yeah, oh

If I'm so wrong (so wrong, so wrong)
How can you listen all night long? (night long, night long)
Now will it matter after I'm gone?
Because you never learn a goddamned thing.

You're just a sad song with nothing to say
About a life long wait for a hospital stay
And if you think that I'm wrong,
This never meant nothing to ya

I spent my high school career
Spit on and shoved to agree
So I could watch all my heroes
Sell a car on tv
Bring out the old guillotine
We'll show 'em what we all mean.

Actually i could give you hundreds of my favourite lyrics, all i ever seem to do is assign lyrics to my music on itunes. Love music for the amazing lyrics they hold.

Personally, I find this song hilarious.

Snake River Conspiracy - You and Your Friend wrote:In my dreams, I can see us in a tight embrace
Doing all the things that we never really did
I think I'm in love with you
Must we go run through our lives with our eyes closed
To the loving happiness that we can share
I think I'm in love with you and your friend

Honest I do, I can't see you and me and her without each other
And I hope you feel the same way too (you and me and her)
I spend all my time on the telephone line
Trying to say it just right this time
Something that could change your mind
I know this is love and the feeling fair
Though I whisper something so sincere
Exactly what you want to hear

Now you know the things that I say when I'm swimming
Through the flood of all my desire can be so unclear
But I know I'm in love with you
In my dreams I still see us in a tight embrace
In spite of all the things people say when they stare
That's how I know I'm in love with you and your friend

Honest I do, I can't see you and me and her without each other
And I hope you feel the same way too (you and me and her)
In spend all my time on the telephone line
Trying to say it just right this time
Something that could change your mind
I know this is love and the feeling fair
Through I whisper something so sincere
Exactly what you want to hear

Honest I do, I can't see you and me and her without each other
And I hope you feel the same way too
I think I'm in love with (you and me and her)
I hope you feel the same way too
I think I'm in love with (you and me and her)
I hope you feel the same way too
I think I used to have a porpoise; then again, that might have been a dream. | Eternal life comes to those who wait

Deicide - Scars of the Crucifix wrote:Impale the body, scares of his flesh, hung up to die on the crucifixion, bleeding to breathe, cursing at god...Why!!!!!!!

The glory resurrection; live in wounds of recollection,
Who take his will unreasoned, naivete inside soul defeated?
Lascivious redemption, justify thy vile absence,
Propagate his aggression as you use his words as weapons.

Lies now have you lost, the worthless cause of the crucifixion.
The sanctity, to hang and bleed, and in the form of a human cross.
Blind by prophecy, his bible fiend, a bloody sword of his fantasy.
Tried for heresy, and sacrilege, to bare the scars of the crucifix.

You walk alone with Jesus, in a world of non-believers,
Humiliated savior, Is thy son of heavens failure,
For ever left undone, on the cross for everyone,
His words of god unheard, he is dead and not concerned.

God fatality, the life recedes on the cross of his sign,
Finality, in search of peace, to beg and plead for the end that will be,
The light descends, when suffering, impaled again for your blasphemous lies.
Resented death, his sins confessed, accept the scars of the crucifix.

Sad in your sorrow, withered within, stand in the shadow of all of our sins, you are the son, choke on his blood...Die!!!!!!

Not my favourite song, but pretty good.

Edit:

Favourite Nice Song:

Dream Theater - Space-Dye Vest wrote:Falling through pages of Martens on angels
Feeling my heart pull west
I saw the future dressed as a stranger
love in a space-dye vest

Love is an act of blood and I'm bleeding
a pool in the shape of a heart
Beauty projection in the reflection
Always the worst way to start

[Sample is Julian Sands from the film "A Room With A View".]
"But he's the sort who can't know
anyone intimately, least of all a
woman. He doesn't know what a woman
is. He wants you for a possession,
something to look at like a painting or an ivory box.
Something to own and to display. He doesn't want you to be real,
or to think or to live. He doesn't love you, but I love you.
I want you to have your own thoughts and ideas and
feelings, even when
I hold you in my arms. It's our last chance... It's our
last chance..."

Now that you're gone I'm trying to take it
Learning to swallow the rage
Found a new girl I think we can make it
as long as she stays on the page

This is not how I want it to end
And I'll never be open again

[Sample from "The Trouble With Evan", from the Canadian series "The Fifth Estate".]
"...I was gonna move out...ummm...get,
get a job, get my own place, ummm,
but... I go into the mall where I
want to work and they tell me, I'm,
I was too young..."

[Sample is Jim Hill from a news commentary about the OJ Simpson freeway chase.]
"Some people, gave advice before,
about facing the facts, about
facing reality. And this is, this
without a doubt, is his biggest
challenge ever. He's going to have to face it.
You're gonna have to try, he's gonna to have to try and,
uh, and, and, and get some help here. I mean no one can
say they know how he feels."

[Sample from the Conan O'Brien show.]
"That, so they say that, in ya know
like, Houston or something, you'd
say it's a hundred and eighty degrees,
but it's a dry heat.
In Houston they say that?
Oh, maybe not. I'm all mixed up.
Dry until they hit the swimming pool."

[Sample from "The Trouble With Evan", from the Canadian series "The Fifth Estate".]
"...I get up with the sun... Listen.
You have your own room to sleep in,
I don't care what you do. I don't
care when. That door gets locked,
that door gets locked at night by nine o'clock.
If you're not in this house by nine o'clock, then you'd
better find some
place to sleep. Because you're not going to be a bum in
this house.
Supper is ready..."

There's no one to take my blame
if they wanted to
There's nothing to keep me sane
and it's all the same to you
There's nowhere to set my aim
so I'm everywhere
Never come near me again
do you really think I need you

I'll never be open again, I could never be open again.
I'll never be open again, I could never be open again.

And I'll smile and I'll learn to pretend
And I'll never be open again
And I'll have no more dreams to defend
And I'll never be open again
"Give up here?"
- > No
"Do you accept defeat?"
- > No
"Do you think games are silly little things?"
- > No
"Is it all pointless?"
- > No
"Do you admit there is no meaning to this world?"
- > No

Favourite funny song: Springtime for Hitler

CHORUS:
Germany was having trouble
What a sad, sad story
Needed a new leader to restore
Its former glory
Where, oh, where was he?
Where could that man be?
We looked around and then we found
The man for you and me
LEAD TENOR STORMTROOPER:
And now it's...
Springtime for Hitler and Germany
Deutschland is happy and gay!
We're marching to a faster pace
Look out, here comes the master race!
Springtime for Hitler and Germany
Rhineland's a fine land once more!
Springtime for Hitler and Germany
Watch out, Europe
We're going on tour!
Springtime for Hitler and Germany...
CHORUS:
Look, it's springtime
LEAD TENOR STORMTROOPER:
Winter for Poland and France
CHORUS AND STORMTROOPER:
Springtime for Hitler and Germany!
CHORUS:
Springtime! Springtime!
Springtime! Springtime!
Springtime! Springtime!
Springtime! Springtime!
STORMTROOPER:
Come on, Germans
Go into your dance!
STORMTROOPER "ROLF":
I was born in Dusseldorf und that is why they call me Rolf.
STORMTROOPER "MEL":
Don't be stupid, be a smarty, come and join the Nazi party!
ULLA:
The Fuhrer is coming, the Fuhrer is coming, the Fuhrer is coming!
STORMTROOPER #1:
Heil Hitler!
STORMTROOPER #2:
Heil Hitler!
LEAD TENOR STORMTROOPER:
Heil Hitler!
Springtime for Hitler and Germany
ALL:
Heil Hitler!
ROGER:
Heil myself
Heil to me
I'm the kraut
Who's out to change our history
Heil myself
Raise your hand
There's no greater
Dictator in the land!
Everything I do, I do for you!
CHORUS:
Yes, you do!
ROGER:
If you're looking for a war, here's World War Two!
Heil myself
Raise your beer
CHORUS:
Jawohl!
ROGER:
Ev'ry hotsy-totsy Nazi stand and cheer
CHORUS:
Hooray!
Ev'ry hotsy-totsy Nazi...
ROGER:
Heil myself!
CHORUS:
Ev'ry hotsy-totsy Nazi...
ROGER:
Heil myself!
CHORUS:
Ev'ry hotsy-totsy Nazi...
ROGER:
...stand and cheer!
THE HEIL-LOs:
The Fuhrer is causing a furor!
He's got those Russians on the run
You gotta love that wacky hun!
The Fuhrer is causing a furor
They can't say "no" to his demands
They're freaking out in foreign lands
He's got the whole world in his hands
The Fuhrer is causing a furor!
ROGER:
I was just a paper hanger
No one more obscurer
Got a phone call from the Reichstag
Told me I was Fuhrer
Germany was blue
What, oh, what to do?
Hitched up my pants
And conquered France
Now Deutschland's smiling through!
But it wasn't always so easy...
It was 1932. Hindenburg was working the Big Room and I...
I was playing the lounge. And then I got my big break.
Somebody burned down the Reichstag. And, would you believe it?
They made me Chancellor. Chancellor!
It ain't no myst'ry
If it's politics or hist'ry
The thing you gotta know is
Ev'rything is show biz
Heil myself
Watch my show
I'm the German Ethel Merman
Dontcha know
We are crossing borders
The new world order is here
Make a great big smile
Ev'ryone sieg heil to me
Wonderful me!
And now it's...
CHORUS:
Springtime for Hitler and Germany
Goose-step's the new step today

ROGER:
Springtime!
Goose-steps!
CHORUS MEN:
Bombs falling from the skies again
CHORUS:
Deutschland is on the rise again
ROGER & CHORUS:
Springtime for Hitler and Germany
U-boats are sailing once more
Springtime for Hitler and Germany
ROGER:
Means that...
CHORUS:
Soon we'll be going...
ROGER:
We've got to be going...
CHORUS:
You know we'll be going....
ROGER:
You bet we'll be going...
ROGER & CHORUS:
You know we'll be going to war!!

Tara McLean - Red

Her face is down
And her fingers hang loose
Like horsetail cigarettes
Looks like half a man is all she gets tonight
My little Hercules
Never hurt anyone
And he's the only way of getting home
So when you're between her lips
And the spine of her bed
When everything turns red
Well I see red as well
When you see the colour of love
I see the colour of hell

I lose myself
And I fall away
Past the sad and long dog days
Through a world in which i don't belong anymore
Past the barstool boys
Who take and take me anyhow
But they never take you away

So when you fall beneath her sheets
I lose my head
When everything goes red
Well I see red as well
When you see the colour of love
I see the colour of hell

Lord, lead me on
To a world that I can no longer find
My dear you are all the time
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This one is getting to me lately. Also, my friend is directing Medea, and this song just struck me as great for the 'mood music' played before curtan.
Oh, how could you ask me my favourite lyrics? We could be here all day.
Rise Against - Six Ways 'Til Sunday wrote:you're claiming to be something different
so wanting to believe
that you're better than the rest
to make up for your self-esteem
you talk to hear your own voice and
you've left me no choice but to choose
I miss the person that you were
but I don't miss you
you've been hiding so long
you can't find yourself
in this sheltered life you live
when everything you want is at your fingertips
you'll never know what need is
you're the new revolution
the angst-filled adolescent
you fit the stereotype well
Kill Hannah - 10 More Minutes With You wrote:I don't know who you are
But now somehow you're breaking my heart
And I don't know where you are
But like a drug lift me up to the stars
It's why I'm feeling alive
It's the first time
Here's hoping this day won't end
I don't know now what to do
I don't care
I need ten more minutes with you
Frou Frou - Let Go wrote:So, let go, so let go
Jump in
Oh well, what you waiting for?
It's alright
'Cause there's beauty in the breakdown
So, let go, yeah let go
Just get in
Oh, it's so amazing here
It's all right
'Cause there's beauty in the breakdown
The Hush Sound - Sweet Tangerine wrote:Sweet tangerine, will you please come back to me?
Cause I don't think that these feelings are gonna leave (yeah, yeah)
Sweet melody, you'll be singing in your sleep
But this time you're not listening to a word I say
Straylight Run - Another Word for Desperate wrote:Then he asked me,
What does that mean?
What's another word for desperate?
Repetition makes an impression,
So what's another word for desperate?
I won't be around here for too very long,
I won't be around here for too very long!
I could probably go on some more, but... I guess I should stop. For now. :D
The The- Slow Emotion Replay
The more I see
The less I know
About all the things I thought were wrong or right
& carved in stone
So, don't ask me about
War, Religion, or God
Love, Sex, or Death
Because....
Everybody knows what's going wrong with the world
But I don't even know what's going on in myself.
You've gotta work out your own salvation.
With no explanation to this Earth we fall
On hands & knees we crawl
And we look up to the stars
And we reach out & pray
To a deaf, dumb & blind God who never explains.
Everybody knows what's going wrong with the world
But I don't even know what's going on in myself.
Lord, I've been here for so long
I can feel it coming down on me
I'm just a slow emotion replay of somebody I used to be.
Dido - White Flag wrote:I know you think that I shouldn't still love you,
Or tell you that.
But if I didn't say it, well I'd still have felt it
where's the sense in that?
I promise I'm not trying to make your life harder
Or return to where we were
I will go down with this ship
And I won't put my hands up and surrender
There will be no white flag above my door
I'm in love and always will be
I know I left too much mess and
destruction to come back again
And I caused nothing but trouble
I understand if you can't talk to me again
And if you live by the rules of "it's over"
then I'm sure that that makes sense
I will go down with this ship
And I won't put my hands up and surrender
There will be no white flag above my door
I'm in love and always will be
And when we meet
Which I'm sure we will
All that was there
Will be there still
I'll let it pass
And hold my tongue
And you will think
That I've moved on....
I will go down with this ship
And I won't put my hands up and surrender
There will be no white flag above my door
I'm in love and always will be
I only recently learned the words to this song. There is such a purity and sweetness in it. It could come across as really dreary and pathetic, but within the context of the music is almost said with a little smile.
~Some people are like Slinkies - not really good for anything, but you still can't help but smile when you push them down the stairs.
Dead Milkmen - I Against Osborne
I know the CIA is watching me
I'm a target of the FBI and PMRC
I do not sleep I spend my nights worrying of satellites
They put an eye into the sky and did not tell the people why
I do not sleep I spend my nights worrying about satellites
My neighbors are not the folks they appear to be
They've been replaced by the agency
I try to get to sleep but it's no good
My coffee does not taste the way it should
I know there's no way to make them stop
My house is surrounded by the cops
They love to plant hidden microphones
I find them when I clean up around my home
I am sorry, yes I am
I do not talk to strangers ma'am
You're part of this giant plot
Please don't tell me that you're not
I am sorry, yes I am
I do not talk to strangers ma'am
My kids must be part of the conspiracy
My favorite lyrics :
Art Garfunkel (with some random person whose name i cant remember anymore...)- The Kid
I'm the kid who ran away with the circus
Now I'm watering elephants
But I sometimes lie awake in the sawdust
Dreaming I'm in a suit of light
Late at night in the empty big top
I'm all alone on the high wire
Ladies and gentlemen, there is no net this time
He's a real death defier
I'm the kid who always looked out the window
Failing the tests in geography
But I have seen things far beyond just this schoolyard
Distant shores of exotic lands
There's the spires of the Turkish empire
Six months since we made landfall
Riding low with the spices of India
Through Gibralter, we're rich men all
I'm the kid who thought we'd someday be lovers
Always held out that time would tell
Time was talking
Guess I just wasn't listening
No surprise, if you know me well
As we're walking down toward the train station
I hear a whispering rainfall
Across the boulevard, you slip your hand in mine
In the distance the train's last call
I'm the kid who has this habit of dreaming
That sometimes gets me in trouble too
But the truth is
I could no more stop dreaming
Then i could make them all come true
Combined with the melody and Art's sweet voice it makes me all warm and fuzzy inside.
"Before you judge a man , walk a mile in his shoes.
Therefore, when you judge him, you are a mile away from him and have his shoes"
As the unofficial resident Pearl Jam fan(mods:that would make an excellent title), you better believe I have some favorites. These lyrics are from the first bridge and chorus of Insignificance(my fav. part in bold).
Pearl Jam wrote:The full moon is dead skin,
The one down here's wearing thin...
So set up the ten pins...
as the human tide rolls in,
like a ball that's spinning.
Bombs dropping down, overhead and underground,
It's instilled...to wanna live.
Bombs dropping down,
Please forgive our hometown in our insignificance
For power and brilliance:
Steve Burns - Mighty Little Man
A blinding flash across the room
A sudden crash
A sonic boom changes everything he knew
It's everything he's never seen
The biggest deal there's ever been
Described in light upon the screen
It said
Nobody else is stronger than I am
Yesterday I moved a mountain
I bet I could be your hero
I am a Mighty Little Man
I am a Mighty Little Man
I am a Mighty Little Man
From way up here you can't look down
As of now there is no ground
The microscope is turned around
Don't be alarmed don't make a fuss
He's still like you he's one of us
and he'll come back before too long
He takes a breath and clears his mind
Grabs his coat and steps outside
An empty street there's no one there
He lifts himself into the air
A billion thoughts expressed as one
Etched in words
Across the sun
It said
Nobody else is stronger than I am
Yesterday I moved a mountain
I bet I could be your hero
I am a Mighty Little Man
But for PURE class:
Clutch - Binge and Purge
Come on, motherfucker
Come on, motherfucker
Come on, motherfucker
Let's throw down
Come on, motherfucker
Come on, motherfucker
Come on, motherfucker
Let's throw down
Just try me
Just try me
What are you waiting for?
Come on, motherfucker
Let's throw down
Come on, motherfucker
Let's go
Just rear your ugly fucking head
I'll put it on a platter
Just rear your ugly fucking head
I'll put it on a platter
Come on, motherfucker
Come on, motherfucker
Come on, motherfucker
Let's throw down
Come on, motherfucker
Come on, motherfucker
Come on, motherfucker
Let's go
Hey there
Hey fella
Hey there
Hey fella
Come on, motherfucker
Come on, motherfucker
Come on, motherfucker
Let's throw down
Come on, motherfucker
Come on, motherfucker
Come on, motherfucker
Let's throw down
One of my favorite songs...
The Sisters of Mercy - "Nine While Nine" wrote:
And it's passing strange,
And I'm waiting for the train,
Caught up on this line again
And it's passing slowly, killing time
But it's better than living in what will come
And I've still got some of your letters with me
And I thought sometimes or I read too much
And I think you know
Let's drink to the dead lying under the water
Or the cost of the blood on the driven snow
Or the lipstick on my cigarette
Frost upon this windowpane
Nine while nine and I'm waiting
For the train
She says 'Do you remember a time when angels'
'Do you remember a time where fear'
'In the days when I was stronger'
'In the days when you were here'
'When days had no beginning'
'When days had no end'
'When shadows grew no longer,
'I knew no other friend but you'
'Were wild. You were wild.'
Frost upon these cigarettes,
And lipstick on my windowpane, And I've
Lost all sense of the world outside, but I
Can't forget so I call your name, and I'm
Looking for a life for me, and I'm
Looking for a life for you, and I'm
Talking to myself again and it's
So damn cold it's just not true and I'm
Walking, through the rain
Trying to hold on
Waiting for the train
And I'm only looking for what you want, but it's
Lonely here and I think you knew
And I'm waiting
And I wait in vain
Nine while nine, and I'm waiting
For the train
John Butler Trio - Groovin' Slowly
I just recently got JBT's new album (which I highly recommend to all) and this is one of my faves on there. The flow of the song is great, its just so relaxing and feel-good. Anyway, check it out:
Beautiful woman, so sexy
Come shake that bottom over, over to me
Feel that one drop, feel that skank
Brother B playing that Hip Hop
It better than a, money in the bank
Lights are low, moon is high
I want you to know
That you're the brightest star in my sky and
I'm groovin' slowly
With my woman
Groovin' slowly
With my wo-man
DJ play that music
All night long
Play that funky kingston
You know it's our, our favourite song
Feel that back beat
Feel that groove
Got my baby on the dancefloor
She doin all her, her favourite moves
I want you to know girl
I want you to feel
I want to show you
That my love is real
I want you to see girl
You're the brightest star that shines
Even though there is no forever
I'm gonna love you 'til the end of time
'Cos I'm, I'm groovin' slowly
If anyone would like to hear the song, I will gladly post it up on the intertubes somewhere (if I can find a pipe).
Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me.
-Rage Against the Machine
Reach down your hand in your pocket
Pull out some hope for me
It's been a long day, always ain't that right
And no Lord your hand won't stop it
Just keep you trembling
It's been a long day, always ain't that right
- Matchbox 20
Note: This is the only Matchbox 20 song I like. I hated them otherwise. It's weird.
Mr. Jones and me stumbling through the barrio
Yeah we stare at the beautiful women
"She's perfect for you, Man, there's got to be somebody for me."
I want to be Bob Dylan
Mr. Jones wishes he was someone just a little more funky
When everybody loves you, son, that's just about as funky as you can be
-The Counting Crows
Greedy little people in a sea of distress
Keep your more to receive your less
Unimpressed by material excess
Love is free love me say hell yes
Give it away give it away give it away now
-Red Hot Chili Peppers
The drinking will continue until morale improves.
Lessee. I've got so many to choose from.. hmm. Where to start. I'll probably have to limit myself to several a day, lest I end up devouring this whole thread.
We'll start off with "Home" by The Endparty:
The Endparty wrote:I know there's something coming tonight,
So I'm chasing down the sunrise
Hoping for the rain
Let you swim into my thoughts again
The worst is over now
Moving forward to the moment when
Everything will change
Let you fall into my arms again
My dreams are always flying farther from this shore
Somewhere so far away is a place where we belong
So take my hand and we can leave this place today
We'll let the fears all go, and the tethers fall away
I've tried so very hard to stay
But it's burning out the last of me
This failing indecision
I tell myself it's just a phase
A mask I wear for safety
To escape responsibilities
But it's drawing me away
Wants to take you from my arms again
And we'll follow that up with "Bullet" by Covenant:
Covenant wrote:time is like a bullet from behind
I run for cover just like you
time is like a liquid in my hands
I swim for dry land just like you
time is like a blanket on my face
I try to be here just like you
time is just a fiction of our minds
I will survive and so will you
we are the only ones right now that are celebrating
and we are joining hands right now
we are the only ones right now that are suffocating
we are the dying ones right now
as the water grinds the stone
we rise and fall
as our ashes turn to dust
we shine like stars
kisses on the dancefloor in my past
I need some comfort just like you
beating like a bass drum time goes by
I want the last dance just like you
drowning in the flood of morning light
I'm only human just like you
do you hear the city waking up
I will survive and so will you
we are the ones the only ones
we are the ones the dying ones
we are the ones the only ones
we are the ones and we are joining hands
we are the only ones right now that are celebrating…
as the water grinds the stone
And I'm sure I'll think of more later. I'll limit myself for now.
Also, Songmeanings.net is an awesome source for lyrics. :D
On my way up north
Up on the ventura
I pulled back the hood
And I was talking to you
And I knew then it would be
A life long thing
But I didnt know that we
We could break a silver lining
And Im so sad
Like a good book
I cant put this
Day back
A sorta fairytale
With you
A sorta fairytale
With you
Things you said that day
Up on the 101
The girl had come undone
I tried to downplay it
With a bet about us
You said that-
Youd take it
As long as I could
I could not erase it
And Im so sad
Like a good book
I cant put this
Day back
A sorta fairytale
With you
A sorta fairytale
With you
And I ride along side
And I rode along side
You then
And I rode along side
Till you lost me there
In the open road
And I rode along side
Till the honey spread
Itself so thin
For me to break your bread
For me to take your word
I had to steal it
And Im so sad
Like a good book
I cant put this
Day back
A sorta fairytale
With you
A sorta fairytale
With you
I could pick back up
Whenever I feel
Down new mexico way
Something about
The open road
I knew that he was
Looking for some indian blood and
Find a little in you find a little
In me we may be
On this road but
Were just
Imposters
In this country you know
So we go along and we said
Wed fake it
Feel better with
Oliver stone
Till i
Almost smacked him -
Seemed right that night and
I dont know what
Takes hold
Out there in the
Desert cold
These guys think they must
Try and just get over on us
And Im so sad
Like a good book
I cant put this
Day back
A sorta fairytale
With you
A sorta fairytale
With you
And I was ridin by
Ridin along side
For a while till you lost me
And I was ridin by
Ridin along till you lost me
Till you lost
Me in
The rear
View
You lost me
I said
Way up north I took my day
All in all was a pretty nice
Day and I put the hood
Right back where
You could taste heaven
Perfectly
Feel out the summer breeze
Didnt know when wed be back
And I i dont
Didnt think
Wed end up like
Like this
My all-time favorite rock song... of all time.
Mayfield Four - Overflow
The dial tone is all that sings
It's raining hard inside and far away
What's so new
This never-ending drama won't fade
My guts are coil and my only drain
Will this ever end
It's breaking heart, It's bruising head
Why does the good go so bad
All the joy is fading fast
The contradictions they are killing me
This pretzel logic makes her hard to receive
So fall out again
And swallow me whole
Everythings changed
From blowing kisses and throwing stones
Night trade with day
And let dawn begin to break
Once again she knows me too well
How to heal, how to help
And for a while I am saved by her smile
And all the harm comes undone
Just soon enough to stop the flood
The overflow
Should her charm not hold
It could drown me today
Must the river run so high my love
Will this ever end
It's breaking heart, It's bruising head
Why does the good go so bad
All the joy is fading fast
So night trade with day
And let dawn begin to break
Cause she loves me
How to heal and how to break me
And for a while I am saved by her smile
And all the harm comes undone
Just soon enough to stop the flood
The overflow
Should her charm not hold
It could drown me today
Must the river run so high my love
You know your smile can dam the river that I have of... you
Smiles can dam the river...
Smiles can damn the river...
Smiles can dam the river...
Smiles can damn the river...
that I've been here before,
that this is not the first time I've stood in front of this door,
with an overwhelming feeling that I shouldn't go in,
but it seems this is a battle that I never could win.
and you!
my true love!
you call from the hilltop.
you call through the streets,
"Darling don't you know,
"Come on and give me my poison."
OK, OK. I'm done, for time being. :)
A call for penance
Cracks in the hands of a stranger
Rescue me to come back
A call for deliverance
Ghosts in the air that we breath
Watching our every last word
Whisper
Whisper
So what should I do
About a boy
Who won't listen
Erase
Erase us
Erase this world
A call for penance
Crack in the hands of a stranger
Are calling me home
Sheer disobediance
Simply a lack of love
I'm warming up
To come home
To come home
So what should I do
About a boy
Who won't listen
So anxious to find
Any other way
But won't listen, no
Erase
Erase us
Erase this world
Erase
Erase us
Erase this world
You guys are also getting this, quite possibly the best song ever. Good Morning, Captain by Slint.
Let me in, the voice cried softly,
from outside the wooden door.
Scattered remnants of the ship could be seen in the distance,
Blood stained the icy wall of the shore.
I'm the only one left. The storm, took them all,
He managed as he tried to stand.
The tears ran down his face.
Please, it's cold.
When he woke, there was no trace of the ship.
Only the dawn was left behind by the storm.
He felt the creaking of the stairs beneath him.
That rose, from the sea, to the door.
There was a sound at the window then.
The captain started, his breath was still.
Slowly, he turned.
From behind the edge of the windowsill,
There appeared the delicate hand of a child.
His face was flush and timid.
He stared at the captain through frightened eyes.
The captain reached for something to hold on to,
Help me, he whispered, as he rose slowly to his feet.
The boy's face went pale,
He recognized the sound.
Silently, he pulled down the shade against the shadow.
Lost in the doorstep of the empty house.
I'm trying to find my way home.
I'm sorry...
...and I miss you.
I miss you.
I've grown taller now.
I want the police to be notified.
I'll make it up to you,
I swear, I'll make it up to you.
I miss you.
I think I like it more because he is talking, not singing. It's almost like the beat poetry of old.
I'd have to say my favorite song lyrics are probably from Rammstein's Seeman:
Lyrics in German wrote: Komm in mein Boot
ein Sturm kommt auf / und es wird Nacht
Wo willst du hin
so ganz allein / treibst du davon
Wer hält deine Hand
wenn es dich / nach unten zieht
Wo willst du hin
so uferlos / die kalte See
Komm in mein Boot
der Herbstwind hält / die Segel straff
Jetzt stehst du da an der Laterne
hast Tränen im Gesicht
das Abendlicht verjagt die Schatten
die Zeit steht still und es wird Herbst
Komm in mein Boot
die Sehnsucht wird / der Steuermann
Komm in mein Boot
der beste Seemann / war doch ich
Jetzt stehst du da an der Laterne
hast Tränen im Gesicht
das Feuer nimmst du von der Kerze
die Zeit steht still und es wird Herbst
Sie sprachen nur von deiner Mutter
so gnadenlos ist nur die Nacht
am Ende bleib ich doch alleine
die Zeit steht still
und mir ist kalt
English Translation wrote:Come in my boat
a storm is rising
and it is becoming night
Where do you want to go
so completely alone
you are drifting away
Who holds your hand
when it pulls you under
Where do you want to go
the cold sea is boundless
Come in my boat
the autumn wind holds
the sails taut
Now you are standing by the lantern
with tears in your face
the daylight falls on the side
the autumn wind sweeps the streets clear
Now you are standing by the lantern
you have tears in your face
the evening light chases away the shadows
time stands still and it becomes autumn
Come in my boat
the helmsman feels longing
Come in my boat
I was the best seaman
Now you are standing by the lantern
you have tears in your face
you take the fire from the candle
time stands still and it becomes autumn
They only spoke of your mother
only the night is so merciless
at the end I am left alone
time stands still
and I am cold
The song is only good when played off of Live Aus Berlin, the studio recording just doesn't do it for me.
I loveded you piggy, i lovded youuuu!!!
The Rasmus wrote:She's fading away
Away from the world
Drifting like a feather
She's not like the other girls
She lives in the clouds
And talks to the birds
Hopeless little one
She's not like the other girls I know
No more shame, she has felt too much pain, in her life
In her mind she's repeating the words
All the love you put out will return to you
