Ska sucks
Ska revival isn't cool you stupid fucks
All the bands are only in it for the bucks
And if you don't believe me you're a schmuck
But the trend will die out with any luck.

I like the song because every ska band has covered it. I love ska.

A longer song, by Against All Authority:
Systematically populated, Nuclear annihilation
Mind rotting flesh eating cellular infection
Genetically manipulated, human imitation
All staring through my window as I sit here in damnation
I wonder how it's gonna end, If we keep up this pace
Will we progress? Or end the human race?
We're destroying our planet, We've fallen from grace
I just can't take it anymore
Take me to this place too

This wall of sound that surrounds me
Ands keeps me bound to the underground
It's in my heart and in my soul
I wanna kill you with my rock and roll
And destroy the forces that control our pestilent existence

Can't take it anymore,
Don't wanna think about it, it makes me sick
Can't take it anymore,
Don't wanna think about it, it makes me sick

I step outside and all I see is our deterioration
When we're gone all that remains
Will be plastic implantations
And I can't tell the Christians, from Satan's congregation
So everyone climb aboard
Nonstop to damnation!
This run away machine
Never slowing down
Someone said "It's Entropy" and its too late now
We're far to gone
We keep adding to this pile
Just wanna sit back and listen for a while to this

This wall of sound that surrounds me
Ands keeps me bound to the underground
It's in my heart and in my soul
I wanna kill you with my rock and roll
And destroy the forces that control our pestilent existence

Can't take it anymore,
Don't wanna think about it, it makes me sick
Can't take it anymore,
Don't wanna think about it, it makes me sick

This pestilent existence
Humanity's persists in
It grows like a plague
While we whither away!

Bodies, by Kode9 and the Spaceape wrote:Bodies in an state between life and death, holding on to <> till your heart stops dead.
Bodies alive, but at a much slower rate, climbing barriers, there's no open gate.
Mask your face, to breath in air, that's the kinda something that a man can't bear.
Bodies move long with steel with suspense, binding feet, hands arms and legs.
Bodies blackened, burned by intent, ignited by a future instinct in your head.
Deafening sounds, so viral, intense. Now you can see why the numbers make sense.

Dark, shifting, lines are curved, sending signals, tangling nerves.
Bodies straining, desperately I fight, clinging to a dream of an afterlife.
Light glaring, no colour no shape, touching the senses before you escape.
Bodies regain from core to core, connecting up the future to a parallel door.

I haven't actually felt like this in years, but I heard this song last night, and I love these lines:
Gadflys wrote:So tell the truth, what are you doing here
Hanging around, giving me ideas
Making all my happiness into a lie.

If you only knew that I can't resist
and what it means to see you in that dress;
Stop leading me on this way.

Don't break my heart again.

"We'll blast the stereo and we'll drive to Madagascar..."
This is my quote of the now (i never know how long it's gonna last) just because I want to leave home soo badly.

Look at the stars,
Look how they shine for you,
And everything you do,
Yeah they were all yellow,

I came along
I wrote a song for you
And all the things you do
And it was called yellow

So then I took my turn
Oh all the things I've done
And it was all yellow

Your skin
Oh yeah your skin and bones
Turn into something beautiful
D'you know you know I love you so
You know I love you so

I swam across
I jumped across for you
Oh all the things you do
Cause you were all yellow

I drew a line
I drew a line for you
Oh what a thing to do
And it was all yellow

Your skin
Oh yeah your skin and bones
Turn into something beautiful
D'you know for you i'd bleed myself dry
For you i bleed myself dry

Its true look how they shine for you
look how they shine for you
look how they shine for you
look how they shine for you
look how they shine for you
look how they shine
look at the stars look how they shine for you

Bad Horse, Bad Horse
Bad Horse, Bad Horse

He rides across the nation
the Thoroughbred of Sin
He got the application that you just sent in
It needs evaluation, so let the games begin
A heinous crime, a show of force
A murder would be nice of course

Bad Horse, Bad Horse
Bad Horse, he's bad

The Evil League of Evil
is watching so beware
The grade that you receive will be your last, we swear
so make the Bad Horse gleeful, or he'll make you his mare

You've saddled up, there's no recourse
It's "Heigh-ho Silver"
Signed, Bad Horse

I like Yellow!!

Okay.
Like the only song I know the lyrics too.

Words are flowing out like endless rain into a paper cup
They slither while the pass they slip away across the universe
Pools of sorrow waves of joy are drifting through my open mind
inciting and inviting me
jai guru deva om
nothings gonna change my world
"
"
"
Images of broken light which dance before me like a million suns that call me on and on across the universe.
Too lazy to post the rest.
I discovered its iambic though. That's awesome.

I know I'm probably wrong, but I'm convinced that this bit is "His Band". As in, "Bad Horse. His band (the Evil League of Evil) is watching, so beware!"

Here is a song that does match how I've been feeling lately, also by the Gadflys:
the Gadflys, in 'the Girl' wrote:Here she comes she's so long and lean
When she walks it's like you're in a dream
and she's by far the most extraordinary
woman that you've seen.

Do you stare, do you play it cool?
Does it matter, are you just a fool?
'Cause she'll just smile her secret smile
and you won't know what it means

To be delighted by her company
The object of her smile.
Out in the streets the lights come on
Waiters light candles, one by one.

Yes JayDee, you are wrong.

As for me, there's a few lines I love from a Stars song, Soft Revolution:
The revolution wasn't bad
We hit the streets with all we had
A tape recording of the sound
Of the Velvet Underground
A K-way jacket torn to shreds
And a dream inside our heads
And after changing everything
They couldn't tell,
We couldn't sing.

A couple of individual lines and a few full songs that are roughly flawless:

The Mountain Goats - Going to Georgia wrote:The most remarkable thing about you standing in the doorway is that it's you, and that you're standing in the doorway.

Elliott Smith - Say Yes wrote:I'm in love with the world through the eyes of a girl who's still around the morning after.

Tom McCrae - I Ain't Scared Of Lightning wrote:I ain't scared of lightning
Come on and do your worst
If they gave degrees in cheating destiny
Then man, I got a first

I ain't scared of lightning
It's the same old empty threat
I've been standing proud beneath the gathering cloud
And man, I ain't dead yet

No I ain't scared of lightning
Thunder never killed
I was born in a summer storm
I live there still

The National - About Today wrote:Today you were far away
And I didn't ask you why
What could I say?
I was far away
You just walked away
And I just watched you
What could I say?

How close am I to losing you?

Tonight you just close your eyes
And I just watch you
Slip away

How close am I to losing you?

Hey, are you awake?
Yeah I'm right here
Well can I ask you about today?

How close am I to losing you?
How close am I to losing?

R.E.M. - At My Most Beautiful wrote:I've found a way to make you
I've found a way
A way to make you smile

I read bad poetry into your machine
I save your messages just to hear your voice
You always listen carefully to awkward rhymes
You always say your name like I wouldn't know it's you
At your most beautiful

I've found a way to make you
I've found a way
A way to make you smile

At my most beautiful
I count your eyelashes secretly
With every one whisper 'I love you'
I let you sleep
I know you're closed-eye watching me, listening
I thought I saw a smile

I've found a way to make you
I've found a way
A way to make you smile
Jesus Christ you have confused me

From the Phantom of the Opera:
CHRISTINE wrote:I remember
there was mist . . .
swirling mist
upon a vast, glassy lake . . .
There were candles
all around
and on the lake there
was a boat,
and in the boat
there was a man . . .

Nomeansno - He Learned How to Bleed wrote:For all to see, open your hands and show the
Self-surgery, see the scars, trace the seams
A heart on a sleeve, and the words, words
And the words, words, as they
Repeat the refrain
Trying hard to explain

He’s got it, man, he’s covered in it, just look at him!
One more time, man, you’ve got it, just do it!
He learned how to bleed
He learned how to bleed
Just look at him!

The works and the days, each squeezing out another
Drop from the stone, one more push, one more groan
This is the best, what more can you expect?
Can you see what you have you done?
The prize you have won?

He’s down, but look, he’s back up again!
I can't explain, How does he do it?
He's down, no he's back up again.
How does he do it?
He learned how to bleed
He learned how to bleed
Just look at him!

What a weary way we wend
In this world without end
You learn to fall and then
You learn to stand up again

Acquire the skills, gather the will to do it
Learn by degrees, learn it slow, learn it hard
It is the art
Of tearing it apart, and when you
Know what you know
Let it out, let it go

No more tricks, man, we’ve seen the fakes, just do it!
That’s it, man, let it out, just do it!
He learned how to bleed
He learned how to bleed
Just look at him!

Billy Joel wrote:I've seen those big machines come rolling through the quiet pines
Blue suits and bankers with their Volvos and their valentines
Give us this day our daily discount outlet merchandise
Raise up a multiplex and we will make a sacrifice
Now we're gonna get the big business
Now we're gonna get the real thing
Everybody's all excited about it

Who remembers when it all began
Out here in no man's land
Before they passed the master plan
Out here in no man's land
Low supply and high demand
Here in no man's land

There ain't much work out here in our consumer power base
No major industry, just miles and miles of parking space
This morning's paper says our neighbor's in a cocaine bust
Lots more to read about Lolita and suburban lust
Now we're gonna get the whole story
Now we're gonna be in prime time
Everybody's all excited about it

Who remembers when it all began
Out here in no man's land
We've just begun to understand
Out here in no man's land
Low supply and high demand
Here in no man's land

I see these children with their boredom and their vacant stares
God help us all if we're to blame for their unanswered prayers
They roll the sidewalks up at night, this place goes underground
Thanks to the condo kings there's cable now in Zombietown
Now we're gonna get the closed circuit
Now we're gonna get the Top 40
Now we're gonna get the sports franchise
Now we're gonna get the major attractions

Who remembers when it all began
Out here in no man's land
Before the whole world was in our hands
Out here in no man's land
Before the banners and the marching bands
Out here in no man's land
Low supply and high demand
Here in no man's land
Raise up the torch and light the way.

I am going to see the sisters of mercy on saturday.

As such, I have words stuck in my head. Two vaguely linked songs.

Sisters of Mercy- Driven like the Snow wrote:Still night, nothing for miles
White curtain rain down
Kill the lights in the middle of the road
And take a look around

It don't help to be one of the chosen
One of the few, to be sure
When the wheels are spinning 'round
And the ground is frozen through, and you're

Driven, like the snow
Pure in heart
Driven together
And given away to the west

A white dress
Till the river don't run
A black dress
Looking like mine
Til the sun don't shine no more
Where the sky meets the ground
Where the street folds round
Where the voice you hold don't make no sound
Look, snow on the river, and two by two
Took a lot to live a lot like you

I don't go there now, but I hear they sung
Their 'fuck me and marry me young'
Some wild idea and a big white bed
Now, you know better than that, I said
Like a voice in the wind blow little crystals down
Like brittle things will break before they turn
Like lipstick on my cigarette
And the ice grow harder overhead
Like think it twice but never, never learn

And the mist will wrap around us
And the crystal if you touch it....

And the cars, lost in the drift
Are there
And the people that drive, lost in the drift
Are there
And the cares I've lost in the drift
Are there
Theirs, ours, lost in the drift
Ah, ah, ah, ahh!

Driven
Driven together
And driven apart

Sisters of Mercy- Nine While Nine wrote:And it's passing strange
And I'm waiting for the train
Caught up on this line again
And it's passing slowly
Killing time
But it's better than living in what-will-come
And I've still got some of your letters with me
And I thought sometimes, or I read too much
And I think you know
Let's drink to the dead lying under the water
And the cost of the blood on the driven snow
And the lipstick on my cigarette
Frost upon this windowpane
Nine while nine and I'm waiting
For the train

She said "Do you remember a time when angels..."
"Do you remember a time when fear.."
"In the days when I was stronger"
"In the days when you were here", she said
"When days had no beginning
While days had no end
When shadows grew no longer
I knew no other friend but you
Were wild....
You were wild...."

Frost upon these cigarettes
Lipstick, on the windowpane and I've
Lost all sense of the world outside, but
I can't forget so I call your name and I'm
Looking for a life for me and I'm
Looking for a life for you and I'm
Talking to myself again
But it's so damn cold it's just not true, and I'm
Walking, through the rain
Trying to hold on
Waiting for the train
And I'm only looking for what you want
But it's lonely here, and I think you knew
And I'm waiting
And I wait in vain
Nine while nine and I'm waiting
For the train

Konstantine by Something Corporate

A few spots in this song.

and you don't wanna be here in the future
so you say the present's just a pleasant interruption to the past

its to dying in another's arms
and why i had to try it
its to jimmy eat world
and those nights in my car
when the first star you see
may not be a star
i'm not your star

This whole song really lyrically is amazing.

Throwing some love out to Tupac here. From "Changes"
And still I see no changes can't a brother get a little peace
It's war on the streets & the war in the Middle East
Instead of war on poverty they got a war on drugs
so the police can bother me
And I ain't never did a crime I ain't have to do

So i just turned on this song because I missed it and I got to the lyric "And although it seems heaven sent
We ain't ready, to see a black President." And that makes me sad that this brilliant man can't be alive for this. :(

Yeah... and Blink 182 totally nailed teenage angst.. perfectly..'going away to college'

I haven't been this scared in a long time
And I'm so unprepared so here's your valentine
Bouquet of clumsy words, a simple melody
This world's an ugly place, but you're so beautiful to me

This song is so damned cool:
Escape Key - Girl That's Never Been wrote: It was sixteen years ago, outside an aging movie show
I was found not knowing where I was that night
Not a thing did I possess but an old blue gingham dress
And a faded photograph in black and white
Now my memories are quite clear, even if I still can hear
All the shrinks who said some trauma was to blame
Light another cigarette, breathe in deep, try to forget
That it's a photograph of Dinah and that Alice is my name

Chorus:
Save me, save me, I've lost my memory
I'm outside the world looking in
Save me, save me, I'm lost in the memory
And I'd swear I'm a girl that's never been

Now it's all the life I knew, except I know it can't be true
I'm not her-- there's no such thing as Wonderland
Hold a steady job somehow, three months clean and sober now
Oh, the ways I tried to get back there again
"Try to move on, don't be sad--" so I placed a personal ad
I asked, why is a raven like a writing desk?
And on the phone, out of the past, so glad he's found me now at last--
And I'm afraid to go and meet him but I know my answer's yes

[chorus]

Bridge:
Just another city loner wearing sunglasses at night
Leather jacket, purple turtleneck and blue jeans worn too tight
Just a rummie by the jukebox in a casual curious pose
But I don't know how he knows the things he knows

Well he sits down with a grin, "Why little Alice, where've you been?
Not so little, not so Alice, now, are you?"
As he sips my untouched drink, I say "I can't be who I think"
He says "You are, and you're not, and I am too.
Are we figments of our gin? Are we long-lost orphaned kin?
Or the mad descendants of a writer's pen?
No one's sane behind their mask. Ask what you really want to ask."
And I close my eyes and whisper, "Can you take me back again?"

[chorus]

"Darling Alice, so bereft, there's no back-- you never left.
All the rhymes are still there waiting to be sung."
And he holds up in the air a little picture paper square
Slips between my lips and underneath my tongue.
"Shall I tell you now, Miss Liddell, what's the answer to the riddle
Of the raven that you used to send your call?"
He takes the glasses off to see, yellow cat's eyes turn on me, and says,
"It's nothing like a writing desk at all."

Save me, save me, I've lost my memory
I'm outside the world looking in
Save me, save me, I'm lost in the memory
And I'd swear I'm a girl that's never been
And he faded, leaving nothing but a grin.
He does not spout ever more, new stupidities. He "diversifies his wrongness portfolio."

I have dr horrible songs stuck in my head....

Brand New Day wrote:This appeared as a moral dilemma
Cause at first it was weird, though I swore to eliminate
The worst of the plague that devoured humanity
It's true, I was vague on the "how"
So how can it be that you have shown me the light?

It's a brand new day
The sun is high
The birds are singing
That you're gonna die

Oh how I hesitated!
Now I wonder why
It's a brand new day

All the times that you beat me unconscious, I'll forgive
All the crimes incomplete, Listen, honestly, I'll live
Mr Cool, Mr Right, Mr Know-it-all is through
Now my future's so bright and I owe it all to you
Who showed me the light

It's a brand new me
I've got no remorse
Now the water's rising
But I know the course
I'm gonna shock the world
Gonna show Bad Horse
It's a brand new day

And Penny will see the evil me
Not a joke, not a dork, not a failure
And though she may cry, her tears will dry
When I hand her the keys to a shiny new australia

It's a brand new day
Yeah the sun is high
All the angels sing
Because you're gonna die

Go ahead and laugh
Yeah, I'm a funny guy
Tell everyone goodbye
It's a brand new day

Slipping wrote:Look at these people
Amazing how sheep'll
Show up for the slaughter

No one condemning
You lined up like lemmings
Led to the water

Why can't they see what I see?
Why can't they hear the lies?
Maybe the fee's too pricey for them to realize
Your disguise is slipping....
I think you're slipping

Now that your saviour's
As still as the grave
You're starting to fear me
Like cavemen fear thunder
I still have to wonder
Can you really hear me?

I bring you pain
The kind you can't suffer quietly
Fire up your brain, remind you
Inside, you're rioting
Society is slipping
Everything's slipping away, so...

Go ahead! Run away!
Say it was horrible!
Spread the word! Tell a friend!
Tell them the tale!

Get a pic! Do a blog!
Heroes are over-with!
Look at him! Not a word!
Hammer, meet Nail!

Then I win
Then I get everything I ever
All the cash, all the fame
And social change
Anarchy, that I run
It's Dr Horrible's turn
You people all have to learn
This world is going to burn, burn, (Yeah, it's two r's, h-o-r-r, yeah, right) BURN!

No sign of Penny
Good. I would give anything
Not to have her see

It's gonna be bloody
Head-up Billy Buddy
There's no time for mercy

Here goes no mercy......

And as a change from silly geek musicals: silly EBM music. Great for when you're having a low-self-esteem day, and would like to make it WAY WORSE:

Imperative Reaction - Severed wrote:You will give up
You always do
And time won't let you follow through
Your weakness has shown
And now you're everything they've thrown at you
You knew the tide was coming
You cast yourself adrift
You've burned your empty words
And fucked it up again
Now the colours drain like blood
Down the canvas you abandoned
And shadows hide the words
You replace with excuses
But excuses lose their weight
When you're foced into a corner
And the one you once believed in
Has left you there alone

Now what can you show
For all the dreams you trampled?
Now how does it feel
When everything you had is gone?
Now what can you say
For the life you fought so hard to live?
Now how does it feel?
Now how does it feel?

How can you walk away when this was everything you wanted?
Now how can you say this was nothing that you needed?
How can you fall apart in a time that was so crucial?
Now how does it feel?
Now how does it feel?

You are too lost
You'll always be
Too caught up in your world to see
Reality has spoken and you've turned the other way
You'll always have a reason to deny what you destroyed
You've burned your acid words
And left it all behind
Now the reasons fall like cinders from the fire that you avoided
And whispers shun the failures that you tried so hard to hide
But whispers lose their trust when you're lost and apathetic
And the one you once believed in is a total fucking loss

Now what can you show
For all the dreams you trampled?
Now how does it feel
When everything you had is gone?
Now what can you say
For the life you fought so hard to live?
Now how does it feel?
Now how does it feel?

How can you walk away when this was everything you wanted?
Now how can you say this was nothing that you needed?
How can you fall apart in a time that was so crucial?
Now how does it feel?
Now how does it feel?

Now what can you show?

Hurray for Professor Ludwig von Drake,
Ludwig von Drake, Ludwig von Drake
He is a gen-i-us, make no mistake,
Ludwig von Drake: that's me!

When people say Ludwig what makes you so smart
you know everything from science to art
I'm forced to admit, after study I find: it's just my superior mind!
'Cause I'm Professor Ludwig von Drake,
Ludwig von Drake Ludwig von Drake
Oh I am a gen-i-us make no mistake
Ludwig von Drake: that's me!

I look in the mirror and what can I say?
Von Drake you're okay! Hip hip hurray!
You're modest and handsome and loveable too
Von Drake you're too good to be true. you you!

I'm a visit calculist, psychology,
plain geometry and anthropology
and the living and entomology
and at bridge I excel

I know all about atomic energy
hearts as both and cars and biochemistry
but when it comes to brain surgery then I only do svell

'Cause I'm Professor Ludwig von Drake
when it comes to brains, I take the cake!
'Caus I'm a gen-i-us, make no mistake
Ludwig von Drake, that's me!
Raise up the torch and light the way.

Quix, what's that from?

Pink Floyd- When The Tigers Broke Free.
It was just before dawn
One miserable morning in black 'forty four.
When the forward commander
Was told to sit tight
When he asked that his men be withdrawn.
And the Generals gave thanks
As the other ranks held back
The enemy tanks for a while.
And the Anzio bridgehead
Was held for the price
Of a few hundred ordinary lives.

And kind old King George
Sent Mother a note
When he heard that father was gone.
It was, I recall,
In the form of a scroll,
With gold leaf and all.
And I found it one day
In a drawer of old photographs, hidden away.
And my eyes still grow damp to remember
His Majesty signed
With his own rubber stamp.

It was dark all around.
There was frost in the ground
When the tigers broke free.
And no one survived
From the Royal Fusiliers Company C.
They were all left behind,
Most of them dead,
The rest of them dying.
And that's how the High Command
Took my daddy from me.
From one of the albums that I've heard people describe as Pink Floyd's worst, but I bought it the other day, and I think it's fantastic.

Professor Ludwig von Drake is a Disney character - one of the 'Duck family, from about the 1960s. I have a five-CD compilation of Disney songs, and that's on there.

Whoo, more EBM

Covenant - Call the Ships to Port wrote:A billion words ago, the sailors disappeared
A story for the children to rock them back to sleep
A million burning books like torches in our hands
A fabric of ideals to decorate our homes

A thousand generations the soil on which we walk
A mountain of mistakes for us to climb for pleasure
A hundred clocks are ticking, the line becomes a circle
Spin the wheel of fortune or learn to navigate

A choir full of longing
We'll call our ships to port
The countless lonely voices
Like whispers in the dark

A second of reflection can take you to the moon
The slightest hesitation can bring you down in flames
A single spark of passion can change a man forever
A moment in a lifetime is all it takes to break him

A fraction of a heartbeat made us what we are:
A brother and a sister for better or for worse
A billion words ago, they sang a song of leaving
An echo from the chorus will call them back again

A choir full of longing
We'll call our ships to port
The countless lonely voices
Like whispers in the dark

Tonight we light the fires
We call our ships to port
Tonight we walk on water
And tomorrow, we'll be gone

Arditi - Sinking Ship

The world is a sinking ship
Sunk by the weight of six billion people
We were sentenced to this fate
By those who preached that they all
Are as good as you and I
That they all should decide our destination
Though none of them has found a meaningful
Direction for themselves

Now everything we loved will die
Unless we get another go at steering

So here we stand,
On the summit of the aft,
Hurling defiance at our misfortune
共和國萬歲
Salve Res Publica Popularis Sinarum Victorioso

"Til Island og Grønland og Hjaltland, gikk ferden på langskip mot vest,
i Frankrike, i Irland og England, var nordmannen ubuden gjest."

This is something that I might talk about elsewhere, but when I was in elementary school, we had schoolwide Friday Morning Sings. We all assembled in the carpeted gymnasium, sitting with our grade (kindergarteners in the front; sixth graders, the only ones who got chairs, way in the back) and somebody lowered the projection screen and put song lyrics on the overhead. And everyone sang. The music teacher sat at the piano and played accompaniment.

Anyway, so it was generally songs with simple melodies. A lot of cute ones like "I Am a Pizza" and a lot of self-esteem ones like "I Am What I Am" and some game ones that we sang repeatedly faster and faster or sang removing one word from the end each time ("Oh, the horse ran around with his foot off the ground.")

The point is, it was such a positive experience for me that the songs I sang while I was there have permanent positive associations, even though I now know that most people would probably classify them as maudlin or cheesy. (Just in general, I wish people wouldn't make fun of sincere positive sentiments.)

So this is the build-up to me posting the lyrics to The Power of the Dream: I don't care what you haters say, that song was my childhood. (Although I didn't realize it was about the Olympics until, well, until tonight. I was under the impression it was sort of about our cavepeople heritage.)

Celine Dion wrote:Deep within each heart
There lies a magic spark
That lights the fire of our imagination
And since the dawn of man
The strength of just "I can"
Has brought together people of all nations

There's nothing ordinary
In the living of each day
There's a special part
Every one of us will play

Feel the flame forever burn
Teaching lessons we must learn
To bring us closer to the power of the dream
As the world gives us its best
To stand apart from all the rest
It is the power of the dream that brings us here

Your mind will take you far
The rest is just pure heart
You'll find your fate is all your own creation
Every boy and girl
As they come into this world
They bring the gift of hope and inspiration

Feel the flame forever burn
Teaching lessons we must learn
To bring us closer to the power of the dream
The world unites in hope and peace
We pray that it will always be
It is the power of the dream that brings us here

There's so much strength in all of us
Every woman, child and man
It's the moment that you think you can't
You'll discover that you can

Feel the flame forever burn
Teaching lessons we must learn
To bring us closer to the power of the dream
The world unites in hope and peace
We pray that it will always be
It is the power of the dream that brings us here

Feel the flame forever burn
Teaching lessons we must learn
To bring us closer to the power of the dream
The world unites in hope and peace
We pray that it will always be
It is the power of the dream that brings us here

The power of the dream
The faith in things unseen
The courage to embrace your fear
No matter where you are
To reach for your own star
To realize the power of the dream

Oh, and here are the lyrics to I Am a Pizza. (You sing it as a call-and-response, repeating every line except the last two in each verse.)

I am a pizza
With extra cheese
From tomatoes
Sauce is squeezed
Onions and mushrooms
Oregano
I am a pizza
Ready to go

I am a pizza
Pepperoni
No anchovies
Or phony baloney
I am a pizza
Order by phone
I am a pizza
Please take me home

I am a pizza
Peppers on top
Out of the oven
Into the box
Into the car and
Upside down
I am a pizza
Dropped on the ground

I was a pizza
I was the best
I was a pizza
Now I'm a mess!
Raise up the torch and light the way.

I apologize if the word 'nigger' in this song offends anyone, but seeing as that it is a historical tune, I'm leaving it in. This is the variant sung by Samuel Jackson in Black Snake Moan, and I particularly like it over the others because it shows a man being tried and pushed beyond his limits.

Spoiler:
This here song is from back in the day
Nineteen-hundred and sixty-two
My woman put my black ass out in the cold
I said, "baby why you leavin'?"
She said, "i love dun gone cold."
Oh, i waded through water and i waded through mud
Till i come to this place they call the bucket of blood

You know that bartender gave me a dirty look and a dirty glass
I said, "say muthafucka do you know who i am?"
He said, "hell no nigga i don't give a goddamn."

I reached down in my pocket and pulled out my shiny .44
Shot that muthafucka twice
He hit the goddamn floor
'bout that time you coulda heard the drop of a pin
That's when that bad muthafucka billy lyons walked in

About that time a pimp eased up and turned out the lights
That's when i had ol' billy lyons dead in my sights
When the lights come back on ol' billy gone to rest
I put nine of my bullets in his muthafuckin' chest!

Whats missing is the guitar solos that sound like a band of demons clawing at your sanity.
... with gigantic melancholies and gigantic mirth, to tread the jeweled thrones of the Earth under his sandalled feet.

This one always makes me laugh
Rock Eisteddfod by tripod.
Spoiler:
There's a girl,
We see each other every day,
But I'm just too shy,
And I can't really even bring myself to say,
"Hello, how are you today?
Lovely weather, by the way,
If I was with you, I'd be happy to pay!"
(For dinner! not... oh fuck!)

She's so cute,
She's got a little button head.
And I try to be cool,
But then I just trip over and nearly spew
I just can't find a way to,
Let her know that I'll be true,
So I know what I must do...

I'm gonna win the Rock Eisteddfod,
That's how I'm gonna win her hand.
I'm gonna win the Rock Eisteddfod,
And I'm a thirty-eight-year-old man.

When I've won the Rock Eisteddfod,
She won't leave me on the shelf.
I'm gonna win the Rock Eisteddfod,
Win the Rock Eisteddfod by myself,
With no-one else,
On stage by myself.

My dramatic concept,
Will be a post-apocalyptic nightmare.
Made of cardboard boxes,
And foil taped to my stack hat.
She'll be impressed!
And my costume will be the best,
When the curtain rises, I'll be dressed,
In fluoro bike shorts and a fur vest.

I can see it now,
We'll be the toast of Highpoint.
She'll fall in love,
With my mix of funky dance moves,
And school spirit.
And she'll finally let me near it,
I'm a master of my art,
That's the way I'll win her heart...
(... for my school. )

I'm gonna win the Rock Eisteddfod,
That's how I'm gonna win her hand.
I'm gonna win the Rock Eisteddfod,
And I'm a thirty-eight-year-old man.

When I've won the Rock Eisteddfod,
She won't leave me on the shelf.
I'm gonna win the Rock Eisteddfod,
Win the Rock Eisteddfod by myself.
(Dancing!)

And as for music, I'll only choose it,
If it's got a serious environmental message.
I'll start with "Hungry... like the wolf",
And then, "It's Raining... Men".

I hope it works,
I hope she falls in love with me.
My backup plan,
Is to leave these rookie amateurs behind.
And I'll really blow her mind,
And I'll build my Jazz Ballet rep,
I'll go the logical next step...

I'm gonna win the Eurovision,
Be a star and make her see.
Singing in a foreign language,
Maybe then she'll understand me.

When I've won the Eurovision,
She won't leave me on the shelf.
I'm gonna win the Eurovision,
Then I finally won't be by myself.
Row boats by myself,
See-saws by myself,
Eating two ice-creams by myself...

I also love this one; Alma by Tom Lehrer
there are vary few songs out there praising the girl for getting all the guys (but a lot of the opposite) XD. Alma managed to snag 3 of the greatest musical minds of the day. He comments in the songs introduction she has the raciest obituary he'd ever seen, owing to the fact many of her lover were listed in it XD
Spoiler:
The loveliest girl in Vienna
Was Alma, the smartest as well
Once you picked her up on your antenna
You'd never be free of her spell

Her lovers were many and varied
From the day she began her beguine
There were three famous ones whom she married
And God knows how many between

Alma, tell us
All modern women are jealous
Which of your magical wands
Got you Gustav and Walter and Franz

The first one she married was Mahler
Whose buddies all knew him as Gustav
And each time he saw her he'd holler
"Ach, that is the fräulein I moost hav"

Their marriage, however, was murder
He'd scream to the heavens above
"I'm writing 'Das Lied von der Erde'
And she only wants to make love!"

Alma, tell us
All modern women are jealous
You should have a statue in bronze
For bagging Gustav and Walter and Franz

While married to Gus, she met Gropius
And soon she was swinging with Walter
Gus died, and her tear drops were copious
She cried all the way to the altar

But he would work late at the Bauhaus
And only come home now and then
She said, "What am I running, a chow house
It's time to change partners again"

Alma, tell us
All modern women are jealous
Though you didn't even use Ponds
You got Gustav and Walter and Franz

While married to Walt she'd met Werfel
And he too was caught in her net
He married her, but he was carefel
'Cause Alma was no Bernadette

And that is the story of Alma
Who knew how to receive and to give
The body that reached her embalma
Was one that had known how to live

Alma, tell us
How can they help being jealous
Ducks always envy the swans
Who get Gustav and Walter
You never did falter
With Gustav and Walter and Franz

Comitted at twenty two
Just to get over you
My belly aches blue
Lorazepam flu
I'm down for the count
Always three times a day
Sometimes four
A bee stings right through the arm
The high swing I ride upon
My eyes can't quite focus on
The nurse with my Lucky Charms
Well a two step was just a laugh
Our boundaries were broke in half
It's a good thing to know
As you walk into group for the show

knock-knock on the window pane
My smoke break, the hour rang
My quiet roommate sleeps the same
Woke up when dinner came
The man's no more than forty old
Arrived scared two days ago
A family of earth and gold
But still nottheless alone
I learned quick. Knew what to say
Then three angels walked my way
In Spanish tongue they knelt to pray
And said "God keep him safe
From screaming voices"
They became my family
Outstretched their hands are on my head
You know, I can feel them breathing
They actually knelt down and prayed for me
They actually knelt down and prayed for me

Don't you dare put me on H.R.S.A
Does self abuse extend your hospital stay?
I think I'll lie a bit
Lord I won't cry over anything
Over anything at all
I won't cry over anything at all

I'm so happy someone else saw Black Snake Moan, and understood.

Wide awake it's six a.m.
And you've got heavy eyes from heavy burdens
Of a loss so loud you never sleep
And you ask the gods for their mercy

Let it go, Let it fade
'Cause you're stronger now
That you've endured the pain
Let it go, Let it fade
Don't run away

Looking up from below
Afraid you'll suffocate in the undertow
And you're desperate as you've ever been
So be careful now and don't you start caving in

Don't you run away
Don't you run away
Damn this situation
Your hero is a bottle and a line salvation
The world stripped your callous skin
And you're fucked up all the time
Worn heart weak and tender
Is bruised and bleeds and you wanna surrender
That's no excuse for you to go run away and hide

Damn this situation
Get off your fucking ass if you wanna save it
Or sit and rot away if you don't want to survive

-----------------

In hindsight, the lyrics just don't do it justice written down like that. You need his voice to really feel it.

She's Got a Way, Billy Joel wrote:She's got a way about her
I don't know what it is
But I know that I can't live without her
She's got a way of pleasin'
I don't know why it is
But there doesn't have to be a reason anywhere

She's got a smile that heals me
I don't know what it is
But I have to laugh when she reveals me
She's got a way of talkin'
I don't know why it is
But it lifts me up when we are walkin' anywhere

She comes to me when I'm feelin' down
Inspires me without a sound
She touches me and I get turned around
She's got a way of showin'
How I make her feel
And I find the strength to keep on goin'
She's got a light around her
And ev'rywhere she goes a million
Dreams of love surround her ev'rewhere

She comes to me when I'm feelin' down
Inspires me without a sound
She touches me, I get turned around oh oh oh

She's got a smile that heals me
I don't know why it is
But I have to laugh when she reveals me
She's got a way about her
I don't know what it is
But I know that I can't live without her any way
I want to get to a place where I am neither conforming nor rebelling but simply being.

Time slows around us darling
Winter ends today
We'll find the gate to the back garden
And throw the keys awaaay
The waves crash around
The sides of your head
The sun's coming down
Do you feel it yeeeeaaah

But the time starts to slow
In our peaceful sheltered life
And if the cracks start to show
And you'll get bored of this life
And you can pull another one out of my hat
And you can pull another one out of my hat
And you can pull another one out of my hat

Snob Scrilla - There You Go Again

Excuse me girl, on the real,
There's just one thing you want for my life,
That's a white picket fence, two and a half kids and a wife,
But, I keep on telling you that that's not for me,
And you keep telling me I've got to have that.
As a matter a fact, there you go
There you go again, there you go again, there you go.
There you go again, there you go again, there you go again.

And it seems,
Like your favorite thing in the world is killing dreams
Either you're with me or you're not, there's no in between
Cos loving you is a drug and I'm a fiend
But I guess it's just because your kiss tastes just like crack,
And I just can't get the monkey off of my back
Cos just when I'm feeling cool that's when you attack.
See there you go again, there you go again, there you go.
There you go again, there you go again, there you go again.

Look, I've never found a proper way to tell you
But never in my life I've felt such a failure,
Until I started going out with you, Now why did that happen?
Because whenever I was rapping you were laughing.

I swear, as god is my witness
Girl you keep me down like it was some kind of business,
As a matter of fact, there you go.. go.. go..

There you go again, there you go again, there you go again, there you go again
Boredom's not a burden anyone should bear.
Wombats are the most underated animal ever.

"Lean on Me" Bill Withers
Sometimes in our lives we all have pain
We all have sorrow
But if we are wise
We know that there's always tomorrow

Lean on me, when you're not strong
And I'll be your friend
I'll help you carry on
For it won't be long
'Til I'm gonna need
Somebody to lean on

Please swallow your pride
If I have things you need to borrow
For no one can fill those of your needs
That you don't let show

Lean on me, when you're not strong
And I'll be your friend
I'll help you carry on
For it won't be long
'Til I'm gonna need
Somebody to lean on

If there is a load you have to bear
That you can't carry
I'm right up the road
I'll share your load
If you just call me

So just call on me brother, when you need a hand
We all need somebody to lean on
I just might have a problem that you'd understand
We all need somebody to lean on

Lean on me when you're not strong
And I'll be your friend
I'll help you carry on
For it won't be long
Till I'm gonna need
Somebody to lean on

Lean on me...
Raise up the torch and light the way.

I'm clearly in a silly, avoidant mood, and thus I've put on my geekiest playlist and am not packing. So uh. Here! Have some excerpts of ridiculousness!

Kompressor - Kompressor in Effect wrote:You return to vehicle, windows are gone.
Kompressor has removed with baseball bat.
Hood ornament is also gone,
Given to musician from 1983.
Ground beef left on leather seats
For purpose OF REUNITING CATTLE!

Kompressor - Kompressor Does Not Dance wrote:You do not use a macintosh
Instead you use a tandy

A Perfect Circle - Pet wrote:Don't fret, precious, I'm here
Step away from the window
And go back to sleep

Lay your head down child
I won't let the boogeyman come
Count their bodies like sheep
To the rhythm of the wardrums
Pay no mind to the rabble
Pay no mind to the rabble
Head down, go to sleep
To the rhythm of the war drums

Pay no mind what other voices say
They don't care about you, like I do
Safe from pain, and truth, and choice
And other poison devils
See, they don't give a fuck about you
Like I do

Just stay with me
Safe and ignorant, go
Back to sleep

I'll be the one to protect you from
Your enemies and all your demons
I'll be the one to protect you from
A will to survive and a voice of reason

I'll be the one to protect you from
Your enemies and your choices, son
Are one and the same
I must isolate you
Isolate and save you from yourself

Swayin' to the rhythm of the new world order and
Counting bodies like sheep to the rhythm of the wardrums
The boogeyman a' comin'
The boogeyman a' comin'
Keep your head down, go to sleep
To the rhythm of the war drums.

Stay with me
Safe and ignorant
Just stay with me
I'll hold you and protect you from the other ones
Evil ones
Don't love you, son
Go back to sleep

Hello, hello, hello.
Is there anybody in there?
Just nod if you can hear me.
Is there anyone home?

Come on, now.
I hear you're feeling down.
Well I can ease your pain,
Get you on your feet again.

Relax.
I need some information first.
Just the basic facts:
Can you show me where it hurts?

There is no pain, you are receding.
A distant ship's smoke on the horizon.
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move but I cant hear what you're saying.
When I was a child I had a fever.
My hands felt just like two balloons.
Now I got that feeling once again.
I cant explain, you would not understand.
This is not how I am.
I have become comfortably numb.

Ok.
Just a little pinprick.
There'll be no more -- aaaaaahhhhh!
But you may feel a little sick.

Can you stand up?
I do believe its working. good.
That'll keep you going for the show.
Come on its time to go.

There is no pain, you are receding.
A distant ships smoke on the horizon.
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move but I cant hear what you're saying.
When I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse,
Out of the corner of my eye.
I turned to look but it was gone.
I cannot put my finger on it now.
The child is grown, the dream is gone.
I have become comfortably numb.

I don't usually post in lyric threads because I'm certain almost no one reads them, and because I know so few songs that don't immediately lose all poetry when you write them down (you might as well try dancing to sheet music). But: I have one song I can't get over. The concept is, it's the logical extension of all those love songs about beautiful people's eyes, only in ridiculous detail. Every single line except the last one is a description of the person's eyes, and every single line except a few neccesary ones could be a one-line poem in itself. I love it and I am posting it so:

Strange Eyes by The Magnetic Fields

Strange eyes, blue clocks without hands
Two lives lived in distinct lands
Little blue mysteries,
What did they see in me?

Strange eyes, early Picassos
Call me, even when you don't
If only from pictures
It having been three years
They follow me in all my dreams

Oh God I'm still in love with you

Strange eyes, two little star charts
Plunge knives into my poor heart
As lovely as a tree,
They endlessly recede

Strange eyes, two little whirlpools
Made by God to destroy fools
Two pearls of infinite cost
Two paradises lost
They swallow me in all my dreams

Oh God I'm still in love with you

I quite liked the lyrics, but when I looked out the song, it was a bit of a disappointment. Maybe because I'd formed an idea of how it would sound, and it didn't match the preconception at all.
'For Emma' - Bon Iver wrote:Narrator: (So apropos: Saw death on a sunny snow)

Him: "For every life..."

Her: "Forgoe the parable."

Him: "Seek the light."

Her: "...My knees are cold."

(Running home, running home, running home, running home...)

Her:"Go find another lover;
To bring a... to string along!"

"With all your lies,
You're still very lovable."

"I toured the light; so many foreign roads for Emma, forever ago."

That is so strange. The whole album I never paid attention to the lyrics. I just love the music. Listening to it there isn't a female singer in it. Where do you get the him, her from.

It's in the lyrics that come with the album - I was surprised when I read it first, but it makes sense when you listen to it as a conversation. There's other really nice lyrics in the album too.
