Spoiler:
Barracuda - Heart
So this ain't the end- I saw you again - today
I had to turn my heart away
You smiled like the sun- kisses for everyone
And tales- it never fails!

You're lying so low in the weeds
I bet you're gonna ambush me
You'd have me down, down, down, down on my knees
Now wouldn't you, barracuda?

OH!

Back over time when we were all trying for free
You met the porpoise and me
No right, no wrong, you're selling a song- a name
Whisper game

And if the real thing don't do the trick
You better make up something quick
You gonna burn, burn, burn, burn, burn it to the wick
Ooooh, barracuda!

OH!

'Sell me sell you' the porpoise said
Dive down deep down, deeper than
You.. I think that you got the blues too

All that night and all the next
Swam without looking back
Made for the western pools- silly, silly fools!

The real thing don't do the trick, no?
You better make up something quick
You gonna burn, burn, burn, burn, burn it to the wick
Ahh, barra- barracuda!

Well, Heart was a sister act, and the song was written when the older one found that some newspaper was accusing the sisters of having sex, so the whole song was written in a sort of angry haze and ended up doing really well. Oh, and the newspaper had its ass sued off.
Anything I said pre-2014 that you want to quote me on, just run it past me to check I still agree with myself.

Baby you understand me now
If sometimes you see Im mad
Doncha know that no one alive can always be an angel?
When everything goes wrong you see some bad

Well Im just a soul whose intentions are good
Oh lord, please dont let me be misunderstood

Ya know sometimes baby Im so carefree
With a joy thats hard to hide
Then sometimes it seems again that all I have is worry
And then you burn to see my other side

But Im just a soul whose intentions are good
Oh lord, please dont let me be misunderstood

If I seem edgy
I want you to know
I never meant to take it out on you
Life has its problems
And I get more than my share
But thats me one thing I never mean to do

Cos I love you
Oh baby
Im just human
Dont you know I have faults like anyone?

Sometimes I find myself alone regretting
Some little fooling thing
Some simple thing that Ive done

Im just a soul whose intentions are good
Oh lord, please dont let me be misunderstood

I try so hard
So dont let me be misunderstood

Whenever I hear this song, I HAVE to sing along. A lot of people think it's about the American Civil Rights movement, but it really just was born from the composer's falling out with his then girlfriend... he wrote the melody and the chorus, and his writing partners just helped him to complete the song.

Tool — Third Eye wrote:Dreaming of that face again.
It's bright and blue and shimmering.
Grinning wide
And comforting me with it's three warm and wild eyes.

On my back and tumbling
Down that hole and back again
Rising up
And wiping the webs and the dew from my withered eye.

In... Out... In... Out... In... Out...

A child's rhyme stuck in my head.
It said that life is but a dream.
I've spent so many years in question
to find I've known this all along.

"So good to see you.
I've missed you so much.
So glad it's over.
I've missed you so much
Came out to watch you play.
Why are you running?"

Shroud-ing all the ground around me
Is this holy crow above me.
Black as holes within a memory
And blue as our new second sun.
I stick my hand into his shadow
To pull the pieces from the sand.
Which I attempt to reassemble
To see just who I might have been.
I do not recognize the vessel,
But the eyes seem so familiar.
Like phosphorescent desert buttons
Singing one familiar song...

"So good to see you.
I've missed you so much.
So glad it's over.
I've missed you so much.
Came out to watch you play.
Why are you running away?"

Prying open my third eye.
So good to see you once again.
I thought that you were hiding.
And you thought that I had run away.
Chasing the tail of dogma.
I opened my eye and there we were.

So good to see you once again
I thought that you were hiding from me.
And you thought that I had run away.
Chasing a trail of smoke and reason.

Prying open my third eye

I love this song, it's beautiful, epic, dark, mysterious... everything at once.

Averse Sefira — Viral Kinesis wrote:Anoint. Alight. Align.
The Mind says, 'I am not of the Body. When the Body ceases, I will be set free. I direct the Shell to move.'
The Soul says, 'I am not of the Body. When Death comes, I shall reunite with the Void. I am the Engine of the Vessel.'
The Spirit says, 'I am not of the Body. If I die, there is no longer reason to Exist. I am the fuel that fills the Form and gives it Power.'
The Body says, 'It is only through Me that you are realized. I am that which makes you known. Without Me, you have no Home.'
The Fire says, 'I am your Master. I govern you all as Passions. The Body melts at my touch. The Spirit burns at ignition. The Soul ashes at recession. The Mind an inferno at my stoking.'

Crippled - Salvaged - Assimilated
Asphyxia - Deluge - Collapse

Mechanism exposed
In atrophy
Slime - Corruption - Filth

Polyphonic choking
Stifled
One ultimate prayer
For cessation

Our enigma of destination
A defined void
Thy mechanism plagued
Corporeal casket
In bloom
Relentless sacrifice
Thy ritualized absorbing cloak
Sterile devices of castrated passion
The airing of soiled, stained vestments
The preparation of thy temple
Sanctify thy altar
And tarry...

The lesser arrive
Pretenders
To fortify ego
To devour and prolong
Suffering upon
The traveler
The adept

His existence to illuminate
Yet thy ignorance manifest
Insight denied

Formulae turns immortal
Yet again denied
Delusion versus wisdom
Wisdom versus defeat

Build thy solar temple
Radiate thy measures
In failure of scheme
In favor of purity

Shine!

Anoint. Alight. Align.

This is one of my all-time favorite songs, from one of my favorite black metal bands. The premise is an argument between the soul, spirit, mind, and body over who really matters the most... good stuff.

I was always partial to a lot of Neurosis' lyrics. They always had the whole 'rebirth through fire/death' thing going on and he definitely has a way with language;

From No River to Take Me Home:

Spoiler:
The water's deep here
The less of me I show to you
The more I get to get me through

The stain of my eyes
Burnt deep within
Who will fall?
I asked not to know

I'm sealed away, you can't touch me now
Wheel and fire return to me

Let them come
Be my eyes, lead me on
Lift me out, tear me up, spark to fire
Whatever comes through me I will be
I had three signs thrown down on me
Fate frees my heart
Whatever comes through me I will be

Digging a hole so I can rest
No tears from no river to take me home
The seeds in my way, roots to the core
Of a rising sun falling through the wind to the soil

As my body leaves me
I cling to a tree in a dream
I'm screaming to you
Whatever comes through me I will be

And from Left To Wander (off of the same album):
Spoiler:
A light went out of the world today
The spirit rose like smoke
The corpse gave in to the ether
We're left to wander at the void

We're left to wander

The race to render your vision
A fracture in the world can devour
Return to the light of the bearer
The radiant breaks down into life

We're left to wander

That's just fantastic.
Meshuggah also has some pretty interesting lyrics;

Corridor of Chameleons:

Spoiler:
We're the carriers of a new anomaly; Fold, unfold. Bend, shift color.
Always turning our backs to the wind. Deaf to the inner voices screaming.
Purpose, profit, act only to gain. Blistered tounges from licking greedward.
Taste the enemy. Throw up their means. Swallow the bits that fit your needs.

Keep your eyes searching in all directions, scanning for opportunities
Off you go. Begin your climb. Aim for the topmost twig of lies.

Put on a shape to pass undisturbed. Pick a color to blend with surroundings.
Choose a voice suiting, appropriate for the never benignant purpose.
Spin your eyes to read the court. Smoothen your path before the start
Even out, fill the holes with the toxic clay of your rotting heart.

A contagious neuro-ego-disease. A virus sticking to liars.
We're the self-centered fuel to boost the new strain of fire.
Adapting, shifting, lacking opinion. Our numbers exceeding the billions.
Everly walking among ourselves down the corridor of chameleons.

Continue through the skein of boughs, navigate to keep you straight on track.
Make the right ramification-turns. Conceit will be your allied guide.
Climb the hierarchy ladders invisibly, veiled by the canvas of putrid dreams.
Every obstacle surmountable to the clouded vision you've conceived.

Scan the wall of truth for cracks. Your prey: the secrets hiding therein.
Feed upon its nourishing intestines to bring you forth in the "game"
With every single step taken on the road of games called success,
There's a fee for every lie. The currency: Your dissolving integrity.
Will you make it to the top of the tree? Is the fortune there to be found?
Chameleons are a short-lived breed. Maybe fate will find you dead on the ground.

(Fate will tell.....)

I never really pay too much attention to lyrics, as I hear the singing as a melody line more than a stream of prose, but what always stood out for me was The Sacrifice by Symphony X.
Spoiler:
Your eyes, singing to me sweet lullabies
while you lay there in submission
Forbidden desire
alone in the moonlight hearts afire -
burn away our inhibitions

When the stars lose their fire
And night steals the morning away
Forever and a day
I will stay - I will stay here with you my love

Sacrifice, a heartbeat away from paradise
All my reason's giving way to temptation
Fear and Shame - looking for someone else to blame
We're devoured by these fruitless accusations

With every fleeting breath I take
Maybe our love was a mistake
Eternal life - I'd trade it for
One moment beside you...

When the stars lose their fire
And night steals the morning away
Forever and a day

When the stars lose their fire
And night taked the morning away
Forever and a day
I will stay - I will stay here with you my love
"Woof!", explained the dog

As much as I love, and have always loved Symphony X, their lyrics can be so full of cheese it's incredible. :D
Not necessarily a bad thing, just sayin.

Does anyone else find lyrics that seem to be a perfect fit, "yes! that's exactly where I'm at" kind of thing, only to listen to the second verse and realise it's way way off?

Happens to me all the time, especially with songs that are familiar from childhood but that I didn't actually know that well. Like this one:
The Waifs, in Shelter Me wrote:I decided no one's knowing
anything about where I'm going
I can't even talk to my friends
anymore
Not blaming anyone for the mess I've gotten in
I'm only frightened by the things that I've done

Keep me safe from myself

To that point it could be words I'd use describing myself (or words that I'd steal from actual competent songwriters for the purpose of describing myself) but the rest of the chorus, and the other verse? Not so much.
The Waifs, in Shelter Me wrote:Keep me safe from myself
I can't do it without your help
Your love's the finest thing that I've ever known
I want to come home

Thinking back when I was young
and you kept me safe from everything
set me straight when I went wrong
raised me to respect myself
I can offer no excuse for this senseless self abuse
and all the pain that I've cause you to feel
When I hurt myself it hurts you more
and that's what hurts me most of all
We shouldn't go on hurting anymore
The Mighty Thesaurus wrote:I believe that everything can and must be joked about.
Hawknc wrote:I like to think that he hasn't left, he's just finally completed his foe list.

eeek... song lyrics gonna waste lots of time on here.
current favs:

IMO the perfect messed up relationship song
Flamboyant Bella, Break Away:
Spoiler:
I don't love you
But I love when you call me every night
Too young to love you
But I know this feeling's so right

Ain't all about the sex now, see
Just love you lying next to me
Even talking 'bout the weather is ok
Just say you'll stay
With me

You broke me once
Now I can't stop breaking every time you leave
You leave me shaking
I can't breathe
Coz your love is taking all the air away
I can't see
The sight of you is blinding like electric shocks
Your love's my lightning
I'm so scared
But this shouldn't be frightening
Trying hard to break away

Got me dealing with my insecurities
Like I'm at war with these feelings
I'm feeling
I feel like I'm dreaming
I'm dreaming of you
Dreaming, but I've not got a clue what I'm doing here

You've got me so messed up
All your feelings they're just fucking me up
You're a junkie and a drunk but you're all that I want
Trying hard to let you go

And this song is an aquired taste but i love the lyrics,
George Pringle, Carte Postale
Spoiler:
Some days I actually pine for a sleepover and a polo shirt again.
This year saw change.
I started dying my hair lighter.
I cut in a fringe and I started wearing drainpipes that hugged my legs and I suppose the same problems remained.
They just got more complicated and they curled out further.
My problems stretched out in the sun and they sent me a postcard to say that they hoped I was okay and 'I'sn't Buenons Aires fabulous?'.
Well, maybe this was bought on by a newfound ability to sleep alone, or apathy.
I don't know.
I think new years begin in September, well at least for me they always have.
I've always been fnd of September.
Spring is never a good time.
It's a trussed up and beautiful drag queen but autumn is real.
So in the 'New Year' period I changed a lot and all the while I thought it such a great tragedy I never looked this good as a teenager.
All the while I let a ferocity build up in me.
I took it out on myself, the shorter my skirts got and the skinnier my legs bowed and the flatter my chest got and all the while we were sweethearts.
I threw beautiful lines that I never knew I was even capeable of.
I counted green pills and cigarette ends.
I stopped playing guitar and I let my fingers soften and my nails grown for a while.
I started drinking more and keeping unusual hours.
I started playing Street Fighter II, until my eyes felt like they were going to drop out of my head and then I'd get enraged by the fact I was never going to be good enough to play Hyper Mode and Blanka was always going to be stronger than Chun Li.
So maybe I should enlighten you on what happens in your absence.
This selfish existance where this intravert turns extrovert and dons their social armour.
I became the perfect party apprentice, with a PHD in sitting on kitchen counters and drawing my cheeks in and shooting you looks that I don't even mean.
Hips that grind to scratchy indie hits and shoes that stick to nightclub floors...Well, you couldn't understand why I can't.
You've never been up at four am with 'The Fear'.
You've never laid on your bedroom floor half blind and you wouldn't love the girl that wakes up perspiring beer.
I cry much less these days.
I can't help but wonder what happened to ninjas and adventure?
My dreams are like flashes and they give me hope.
In these dreams I grew the bones of a fighter while you were sleeping and I fought and I seduced from a terraced house that rides a hill in this dead little city.
Cinematic mini-epics sobered by train lines and phone lines and I forget these things.
My life's a tangle of cables these days.
Roads and train tracks are like wallpaper now.
I started taking hundreds upon hundreds of photographs, all of which you were absent from.
A detailed scientific investigation into light reflected on glass and I became invisible.
Listening to Techno and Shoegaze in my room all alone and private parties all for myself.
Slender fingers honed from MSN.
An encyclopeadic knowledge of daytime television presenters.

Sorry for lots of lines but...yep.
Even the fluffiest of silver clouds are made of freezing wetness

A couple of my favorite come from Pink Floyd songs, Time, and Echoes (respectively).

And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death

(That was my senior quote this year. :D)

and

Strangers passing in the street
By chance two separate glances meet
And I am you and what I see is me
And do I take you by the hand
And lead you through the land
And help me understand the best I can

(That third line is just brilliance. Quite surreal to me, but also so true at times. Love at first sight, maybe?)

Nick Drake - Man in a shed
Well there was a man who lived in a shed
Spent most of his days out of his head
For his shed was rotten let in the rain
Said it was enough to drive any man insane
When it rained
He felt so bad
When it snowed he felt just simply sad.

Well there was a girl who lived nearby
Whenever he saw her he could only simply sigh
But she lived in a house so very big and grand
For him it seemed like some very distant land
So when he called her
His shed to mend,
She said I'm sorry you'll just have to find a friend.

Well this story is not so very new
But the man is me, yes and the girl is you
So leave your house come into my shed
Please stop my world from raining through my head
Please don't think
I'm not your sort
You'll find that sheds are nicer than you thought.
You go your way.
I'll go your way too.

From an israeli group specializing in psytrance...
Why can't I see what's in front of me?

I see the doors that I can't open
Adding locks from time to time
When it opens something blocks me
And I'm asking myself why
Did I take the step I wanted
Was it just a state of mind?
I feel sorry for myself
every time I close my eyes.
http://www.free-lyrics.org/Infected-Mus ... Of-Me.html

And I fall into a hole
and I can take no more (x4)

Why can't I see what's in front of me?

What's behind the door I wonder
Must be brighter than my past
Will I feel a little different
When I take myself across
Was it really worth the turning?
Was it just a foolish task
I feel sorry for myself
when I open up my eyes...

and I fall into a hole
and I can take no more.

TV On The Radio - Dirtywhirl

Oh there is a murderess amongst us
Her love is a violent spiral
Hurling in upon us, conjured up
At the birth of the world

Durga is a dancer
Mindless questions find no answers
Slicing through the ether
Yeah she's gleaming like mother of pearl

Dirty little whirlwind
Commander, controller
I found you
Dirty little whirlwind
I am pinned by the heat of your swirl
Dirty little whirlwind
Defender, destroyer
I found you
Dirty little whirlwind
Tangled up in the flesh of a girl

Oh you could curl up beside me
The spark in your eyes belies the apocalypse inside you
Twisting the pits from the particle
Skull can't save face

So shake the shame from it
Burn me up inside you
Let me churn in your furnace of whirl
Dirty little whirlwind
Commander, controller
I found you
Dirty little whirlwind
I am pinned by the heat of your swirl
Dirty little whirlwind
Defender, destroyer
I found you
Dirty little whirlwind
All caught up in the flesh of a girl

All that I ever wanted to be was destroyed at sea
Hurricane rescued me salvaged calamity
Do not delay we stood in place for it
Turn me up inside you
Up and into the heart of your world

This song gets me all hot and bothered.
i dare you to take me on...

Velvet Underground--I'm Sticking with You
I'm sticking with you
'Cos I'm made out of glue
Anything that you might do
I'm gonna do too

You held up a stage coach in the rain
And I'm doing the same
Saw you're hanging from a tree
And I made believe it was me

I'm sticking with you
'Cos I'm made out of glue
Anything that you might do
I'm gonna do too

Some people go into the stratosphere
Soldiers fighting with the Cong

But with you by my side I can do anything
When we swing
We hang past right or wrong

I'll do anything for you
Anything you want me too
I'll do anything for you
Oohoh I'm sticking with you
Oohoh I'm sticking with you
Oohoh I'm sticking with you

Jill Sobule - I kissed a girl wrote:Genny came over and told me 'bout Fred
" He's such a hairy behemoth, " she said
" Dumb as a box of hammers
But he's such a handsome guy. "
And I opened up and told her 'bout Larry
And yesterday how he asked me to marry

I'm not giving him an answer yet
I think I can do better

So we laughed
Compared notes
We had a drink, we had a smoke
She took off her over coat
I kissed a girl

So she called home to say she'd be late
He said he'd worried but now he feels safe
" I'm glad you're with your girlfriend, tell her hi for me "
So I looked at you, you had guilt in your eyes
But it only lasted a little while
And then I felt your hand above my knee

And we laughed at the world
They can have their diamonds
And we'll have our pearls
I kissed a girl

I kissed a girl, her lips were sweet
She was just like kissing me
I kissed a girl, won't change the world
But I'm so glad I kissed a girl

And we laughed at the world
They can have their diamonds
And we'll have our pearls
I kissed a girl

For the first time
I kissed a girl
And I may do it again
I kissed a girl
I kissed a girl

I kissed a girl her lips were sweet
She was just like kissing me
But better

I kissed a girl
Won't change the world
But I'm so glad
I kissed a girl
For the first time
I kissed a girl

Wins a minute to add to his life.
But the sickness is drowned by cries for more,
Pray to God, make it quick, watch him fall.

This is the way, step inside.
This is the way.

This is the way, step inside.

You'll see the horrors of a faraway place,
Meet the architects of law face to face.
See mass murder on a scale you've never seen,
And all the ones who try hard to succeed.

This is the way, step inside.

And I picked on the whims of a thousand or more,
Still pursuing the path that's been buried for years,
All the dead wood from jungles and cities on fire,
Can't replace or relate, can't release or repair,
Take my hand and I'll show you what was and will be.
Bash in my brain, and make me scream with pain,
Then kick me once again, and say we'll never part.

The best thing about tonight is that we're not fighting,
it couldn't be what we have been this way before.
I know that your think that I am trying,
I know you're weary thin down to the core.

A couple from Okkervil River

Singer Songwriter:
Spoiler:
Your great-grandfather was a great lawyer,
and his kid made a mint off the war,
your father shot stills and then directed films
that your mom did publicity for.
I saw your older sis on the year's best book list,
and your brother, he manages bands.

And you're keen to downplay
but you're quick to betray
with one well turned out wave of your hand,
you come from wealth,
yeah, you've got wealth.
What a bitch they didn't give you much else.

I heard cuts by The Kinks on your speakers,
I saw Poe and Artaud on your shelves.
While The Last Laugh's first scene
on your flat panel screen
lit Chanel that you've wrapped around yourself.
You've got outsider art by an artist who arguably kidnapped a kid on your wall,
while your designers have slyly
directed the eye down clean lines in your well-lit hall.

You've got taste, you've got taste,
what a waste that that's all that you have.

You wrote your thesis on the Gospel of Thomas,
you shot some reversal film in Angkor Wat,
and this book you once read
says there's less people dead
at this point now than those who are not.
And this film we once saw was reviled for its flaws,
but its flaws were what made us have fun.
And the life some folks had might have made us feel bad,
why feel bad man, it's nothing that you've done.
It's all in your hand, it's all in your hand,
like a gun, like a globe, like a grand.

And this thing you once said disappeared from my head
in the time that it took to be amazed.
And this thing you once did might have dazzled the kids,
but the kids once grown up are gonna walk away.
And your world is gonna change nothing
And our world is gonna change nothing

Plus Ones:
Spoiler:
No one wants to hear about your 97th tear,
so dry your eyes or let it go uncried, my dear.
I am all out of love to mouth into your ear,
and not above letting a love song disappear
before it's written.

And no one wants a tune about the 100th luftballoon
that was seen shooting from the window of your room,
to be a spot against the sky's colossal gloom
and land, deflated, in some neighbor state that's strewn
with 99 others.

8 Chinese brothers;
well, there's a reason why the last is smiling wide and sitting higher than the others,
swinging his arms.

You would probably die before you shot up 9 miles high,
your eyes dilated as light plays upon the sight
of TVC16 as it sings you goodnight.
Relaxed as hell and locked up in cell 45,
I hope you're feeling better.

The 51st way to leave your lover,
admittedly, doesn't seem to be as gentle or as clean as all the others,
leaving its scars.
All in the after hours of some Greenpoint bar,

I told you that I can't listen, baby,
about the 4th time you were a lady,
and how your forthrightness betrayed a secret shyness,
stripped away by days of being hailed as "Your Highness."
And what's new, pussycat, is that you were once a lioness;
they cut your claws out.

Kitten, not everyone's keen on lighting candle 17.
The party's done. The cake's all gone. The plates are clean.
The chauffeur's leering from the cheerless mezzanine.
And, in just 1 year, the straight world can pay to see
what they've been missing.

You were caught kissing 8 Chinese brothers,
but there's a reason why the last is smiling wide and sitting higher than the others,
stinking with charm.
And he says, "Let's get lost. Let them send out alarms."
He says, "Let's get crossed out and come to harm.
Let's make the world's stupidest stand and truly mean it.
Let's hit the limit of laws over lovers' arms
- no, let's exceed it."

The Cure - Catch wrote:Yes I know who you remind me of
A girl I think I used to know
Yes I'd see her when the day got colder
On those days when it felt like snow

You know I even think that she stared like you?
She used to just stand there and stare
And roll her eyes right up to heaven
And make like I just wasn't there

And she used to fall down a lot
That girl was always falling
Again and again
I used to sometimes try to catch her
But never even caught her name

And sometimes we would spend the night
Just rolling about on the floor
And I remember even though it felt soft at the time
I always used to wake up sore

You know I even think that she smiled like you?
She used to just stand there and smile
And her eyes would go all sort of far away
And stay like that for quite a while

And I remember she used to fall down a lot
That girl was always falling
Again and again
And I used to sometimes try to catch her
But never even caught her name

Yes I sometimes even tried to catch her
But I never even caught her name

Hello there, wonderful person.

Okkervil River- "So Come Back, I Am Waiting" wrote:A black sheep boy revolves over canyons and waterfalls.
A black sheep boy dissolves in syringe or in a shower stall.
He says "There’s plenty of time to make you mine tonight."
He says "There’s plenty of time to make you mine."
He says "There’s plenty of ways to know you’re not dying, all right.
Hell, there’s plenty of light still left in your eyes."
In your eyes.

A black sheep boy grows horns, breathing smoke through his microphone.
The airwaves stretch and they groan, bleeding, birthing his black diapason.
He says "There’s plenty of things to wear when you come to me,
every colour of sleeve to be rolled.
Millions of rolling eyes that still cling to me.
Every language of king is concerned."

So why did you bawl from the spell of some old holy song,
that some liar laughed as he composed - some liar I loved to control?

A black sheep boy dissolves in hot cream, in sweet moans,
in each dead bed and empty home, in each seething bacterium.
Killing softly and serial, he lifts his head, handsome, horned, magisterial.
He's the smell of the moonlight wisteria.
He’s the thrill of the abecedarian.
See the muddy hoofprints where he carried you

And there’s plenty of ways to claim his crimes tonight,
and there’s plenty of things to do on his dime.
And there’s plenty of ways to wear his hide tonight.
You’ve got yours, I’ve got mine. You’ve got yours, I’ve got mine.

So why did you flee?
Don’t you know you can’t leave his control,
only call all his wild works your own?
So come back and we’ll take them all on.
So come back to your life on the lam.
So come back to your old black sheep man.
He says "I am waiting on hoof and on hand.
I am waiting, all hated and damned.
I am waiting - I snort and I stamp.
I am waiting, you know that I am, calmly waiting to make you my lamb."

The song is about Tim Hardin's struggle with heroin addiction. After getting clean, he overdosed and died. Yeah, it's kind of a depressing song.

Here's a song I've been thinking about quite a lot.

Spoiler:
Goldfinger wrote:So here I am
doing everything I can
holding on to what I am
pretending I'm a superman

I'm trying to keep
the ground on my feet
it seems the world's
falling down around me

The nights are all long
I'm singing this song
to try and make the answers
more than maybe

And I'm so confused
about what to do
sometimes I want
to throw it all away

So here I am
growing older all the time
looking older all the time
feeling younger in my mind

And here I am
doing everything I can
holding on to what I am
pretending I'm a superman

I'm trying to sleep
I lost count of the sheep
my mind is racing faster
every minute

What could I do more
yeah I'm really not sure
I know I'm running circles
but I can't quit

And I'm so confused
about what to do
sometimes I want
to throw it all away

Controlling everything in site
I'm feeling weak
I don't feel right
you're telling me
I have to change
telling me to act my age
but if all that I can do
is just sit and watch time go
then I'll have to say good-bye
life's too short to watch it fly
to watch it fly

So here I am
growing older all the time
looking older all the time
feeling younger in my mind

And here I am
doing everything I can
holding on to what I am
pretending I'm a superman

I found this to be one of the most human things I've ever heard. Superman is certainly one of the deepest ska songs ever.

So much Cure lately. Must be a phase I go through now and then.

The Cure - Play for Today wrote:It's not a case of doing what's right
It's just the way I feel that matters
Tell me I'm wrong
I don't really care

It's not a case of share and share alike
I take what I require
I don't understand
You say it's not fair

You expect me to act like a lover
Consider my moves and deserve the reward
To hold you in my arms
And wait
And wait
And wait
For something to happen

It's not a case of telling the truth
Some lines just fit the situation
Call me a liar
You would anyway

It's not a case of aiming to please
You know you're always crying
It's just your part in the play
For today

My favorite band that has always been able to inspire me to live my life and appreciate what's out there is a band called Backseat Goodbye. It's only one guy, Chad Sugg, but I think he's an amazing songwriter and his songs help me get through the day. To pick only a few lyrics, here's some of my favorites:

I lied when I said that I hated this life, and I was better off dead.
I'm really quite fond of the morning's smile and the night sky.

Fuck forever. Live now until whenever.
You can blame it on me, but don't blame it on the weather.
It's a beautiful day if you ask me.
Cloudy or not, I'm just glad to know that there's a sun.

This one is the main quote that I live my life by:
It's an ugly world, but you can smile all you want...

And here's a whole song, if you're interested:
Spoiler:
"Calico Kitten"
If my life were a soundtrack, it would be acoustic
With songs about the way I laugh at my ability to love things that I can't have.
If my life were a movie, it would be black and white
With still-frames in colors and hue
The credits would say a simple phrase,
Like 'You aren't what you say or what you do.
So don't worry so much. Just get on with the life that you love.'

I had a good day since I didn't die or have to wait in any really long lines at the store.
Me, I like to make music, and you like to make war.
There's a calico kitten prancin' across the rooftop
Smilin' at the grey withered sky.
He's watchin' all the cars as they pass by.
The blinkers go click, click, click.
And this new height makes him homesick.
He misses his mother the most,
And the long days by the window, they're long, long gone.

If you're alright, then I'm alright.
If you're alright, then I'm alright.

It feels good to be alive again...
I can finally see the sky again...
It feels good to be alive again.
If you're alright, then I'm alright.

Elliott Smith - Between The Bars wrote:
Drink up baby, stay up all night
With the things you could do
You won't but you might
The potential you'll be, that you'll never see
The promises you'll only make

Drink up with me now
And forget all about the pressure of days
Do what I say and I'll make you okay
And drive them away
The images stuck in your head

The people you've been before
That you don't want around anymore
That push and shove and won't bend to your will
I'll keep them still

Drink up baby, look at the stars
I'll kiss you again between the bars
Where I'm seeing you there with your hands in the air
Waiting to finally be caught

Drink up one more time and I'll make you mine
Keep you apart, deep in my heart
Separate from the rest, where I like you the best
And keep the things you forgot

The people you've been before
That you don't want around anymore
That push and shove and won't bend to your will
I'll keep them still

*sigh*
i dare you to take me on...

Hands Held High - Linkin Park
Do you see the soldiers they're out today
They brush the dust from bullet proof vests away

It's ironic at times like this you pray
But a bomb blew the mosque up yesterday

There's bombs on the buses, bikes, roads
Inside your market, your shops, your clothes

My dad he's got a lot of fear I know,
But enough pride inside not to let that show.

My brother had a book he would hold with pride,
A little red cover with a broken spine.

On the back, he hand-wrote a quote inside:
"When the rich wage war it's the poor who die"

robcro wrote:Disenchanted - My chemical romance

Well I was there on the day
They sold the cause for the queen,
And when the lights all went out
We watched our lives on the screen.
I hate the ending myself,
But it started with an alright scene.

It was the roar of the crowd
That gave me heartache to sing.
It was a lie when they smiled
And said, "you won't feel a thing"
And as we ran from the cops
We laughed so hard it would sting

Yeah yeah, oh

If I'm so wrong (so wrong, so wrong)
How can you listen all night long? (night long, night long)
Now will it matter after I'm gone?
Because you never learn a goddamned thing.

You're just a sad song with nothing to say
About a life long wait for a hospital stay
And if you think that I'm wrong,
This never meant nothing to ya

I spent my high school career
Spit on and shoved to agree
So I could watch all my heroes
Sell a car on tv
Bring out the old guillotine
We'll show 'em what we all mean.

MCR are amazing!
But, best song lyrics of all time go to Taking Back Sunday.
You're So Last Summer

The truth
Is you could slit my throat
And with my one last gasping breath,
I'd apologise
For bleeding on your shirt

closely followed by this from Timberwolves at New Jersey:
This is me with the words
On the tip of my tongue
And my eye through the scope
down the barrel of a gun
This is you trying hard
To make sure that you're seen
With the girl on your arm
And Your heart on your sleeve

But Nightwish, Fall Out Boy, Jimmy Eat world, MCR or any of many more could be there....
Armadillo away!

That way, even if i die, i keep the bag.

Just words, no comprehension

...Well, awkward...

*barfs*

it's too bad that most lyricists don't know how to write nowadays except for a select few. one of my favs is phil elverum of the microphones/mount eerie.

The Microphones - "The Moon"

I drove up to the city at night and found the place
Where you grew up and then where you stayed
And we walked around and stayed up late under city lights
I spent the night, next to you in the house where you grew up
Next to you I miraculously woke up
In your parents' house I laid in bed with you

I went back to feel alone there
I went back to wipe it clean

I took the lights and radio towers out of my dreams
And we went all the way up to the small town where I'm from
With foggy air and the wind and the mountain top
And we clung to rocks and looked off and you held my hand
You almost got to start feeling me
I finally felt like I was breathing free
Under swaying trees we fell asleep and we had the same dream
The stars were bright, we dream the same every night
On my island home I spent some time with you

I went back to feel alone there
I went back there by myself
I gave up on everything that we'd felt

We found a precious place in the sand right out in the wind
And we laid under a blanket and heard the furious sound
The roar of waves, the pounding surf, two bodies on the earth
It was intense just getting to be there next to you
And you trying to get me then, and I was happy to let you in

I went back and wished I hadn't
I went back and felt regret
I went to the beach and I stared west

Every night when the sun went down in the town where we lived
The empty streets were lit up by reflected light from a distant sun
Bouncing off a glowing ball of rock and we just laid on the roof
And watched the moon, the moon, the blue light of the moon
We didn't talk and silently we both felt powerful
And, like the moon, my chest was full because we both knew
We're just floating in space over molten rock
And we felt safe and we discovered that our skin is soft
There's nothing left except certain death
And that was comforting at night out under the moon

I went out last night to forget that
I went out and stared it down
But the moon stared back at me
And in it's light I saw my two feet on the ground
i am a poet and an artist

i don't wanna worry about dyin'
i just wanna worry about sunshine girls

PJ Harvey - The Letter

Put the pen
To the paper
Press the envelope
With my scent
Can't you see
In my handwriting
The curve of my 'g'?
The longing

Oh

Who is left that
Writes these days?
You and me
We'll be different
Take the cap
Off your pen
Wet the envelope
Lick and lick it

Oh

I need you
The time is running out
Oh baby
Can't you hear me call?

It turns me on
To imagine
Your blue eyes
On my words
Your beautiful pen
Take the cap off
Give me a sign and I'd come running

Oh
It's you
I want you
i dare you to take me on...

Oh imperative reaction, you so delightfully, over-the-top self-indulgent:

Imperative Reaction - Fault wrote:I am dying inside, and there's nothing I can do
But what does it matter when there's nothing left to lose?
I'm still falling apart, like I've always done before
The pain is almost numbing and I'll always beg for more

Tried so hard to make believe I was something more
Tried so many times to start from where I stopped
But that time has vanished and left me alone to dwell
On all the damage I never left behind
All the things I've ruined, then pushed aside
All the times I've lost and will never have again
All the things I'm not, but could have been

I am drowning in the past and there is no one to save me
I tried so hard to make it work but the world went on without me
Now I stare through the window like a soul without a home
I loathe the way I feel and I hate what I've become

Tried so hard to make believe I was something more
Tried so many times to start from where I stopped
But that time has vanished and left me alone to dwell
On all the damage I never left behind
All the things I've ruined, then pushed aside
All the times I've lost and will never have again
All the things I'm not, but could have been

Through all the pain
I never meant to cause
All the lives
I've destroyed and crushed
All the time
I have lost and will never live again

Must counteract with something equally insipid but much more energetic...

Yeah, I can be the flow and you can be the ebb...

Need a sugar high
my, my, my, my, my
Sweet and sugar shy
my, my, my, my, my
Dreamin sugar high
my, my, my, my, my

Swinging sugar shy,
My, my
My little cup is dry
Gimme sugar to
Fill mine, I'll
Build a sugar shrine fit for the divine on high
I'm grabbing honeyed vines
Yeah, I can be the honey bee and you can be the hive

My little cup is dry
So no more wasting time
Fill mine, fill mine, fill mine
I'll build a sugar shrine fit for the divine on high
Divine, divine, divine
Sugar in my head spilling off the edge, I'm feeling...

Sugar splash and spread

This is amazing: Martinbomb - The Love God

Spoiler:
Look into his eyes!
They're the eyes of a man obsessed by sex.
Eyes that mock our sacred institutions.
Bedroom eyes they called them in a bygone day.

They're the eyes of a man whose lust knows no bounds.
Who lives but for corrupting others to a life of carnal pleasures and lewd designs.
A man whose erotic desires and libertine practices are used to titillate the unsuspecting
and would stoop to any depths to satisfy his pornographic tastes.
The Marquis de Sade would have regarded... as a peer.

Hi folks! Wanna hear something funny? Hahahaha.

I'm cursed...

An abnormal sexual magnetism...

This is the kind of a man I am, and this is the kind of life I must lead.

A biological fact. And I gotta face that.

Hahahaha

Maybe what happened last night was a lucky thing for both of us.
What kind of a marriage would we have had?
How long could I have kept fighting 'em off?

This sex-ridden smut peddler...
from the society he is bent upon destroying.

Look at his face.
It is the face of a smut monger.

This filthy, little degenerate!

(I can't keep transcribing, it's hard and it's taking too much time. I'll edit this and add the rest when I have time)

It's apparently taken from a film by the same name. It also seems to be public domain; you can download it from here. You can view the film's dialogue here (I used this to help me discern what the lyrics say).
Praised be the nightmare, which reveals to us that we have the power to create hell.

Erg, silly poppy electronic band, get out of my head.

Splashdown - Beguiled wrote:Rattle....
What's that rattle?
What a charming sound my tail makes wrapped around
Your neck
As I send all the sins from your past as a gift
To your future
Like a self-inflicted wound
Hear that hissing?
What a soothing sound my tongue makes
As I wait to watch you fall from grace
Meanwhile...

Beguiled, I've wiled you, laughing
You can hide your sins
But not from me
Beguiled, I've wiled you, laughing
I'm laughing

Apples...
Would you like one?
Like the ones I've brought you time and time again
From the garden
To your senses
Every bite that you take is a deal that you've made with my otherworldly friends
Hear that crying?
What charming wine your tears make
As I raise my cup to drink your fate
Meanwhile...

I still only travel by foot and by foot it's a slow climb
But I'm good at being uncomfortable so I can't stop changing all the time

and won't go slow so's not to focus and I notice
He'll hitch a ride with any guide as long as they go fast from whence he came
But he's no good at being uncomfortable so he can't stop staying exactly the same

If there was a better way to go then it would find me
I can't help it, the road just rolls out behind me
Be kind to me, or treat me mean
I'll make the most of it, I'm an extraordinary machine

I seem to you to seek a new disaster every day
You deem me due to clean my view and be at peace and lay
I mean to prove I mean to move in my own way
And say I've been getting along for long before you came into the play

I am the baby of the family
It happens so everybody cares
And wears the sheeps clothes while they chaperone
Curious you're looking down your nose at me while you appease
Courteous to try and help but let me set your mind at ease

If there was a better way to go then it would find me
I can't help it the road just rolls out behind me
Be kind to me or treat me mean
I'll make the most of it I'm an extraordinary machine

Do I so worry you
You need to hurry to my side, it's very kind
But it's to no avail
I don't want the veil or flowers
I promise you everything will be just fine

"Fortune Teller" by Forest Fire
I only wanna seem good
In front of the right people

My aura's yellow like a coward
Tonight, I'm gonna melt some faces
With Gatling gun social skills

We dance to the beat
Whatever sound comes out anyway
So why not kill, someone you hate

When the cactus are in full bloom
I'm gonna ask you to be my wife

And it's cold enough to see your breath
I'm taking the only thing that's mine
But first, I'm gonna melt some faces
With Gatling gun social skills

Dance to the beat
Whatever sound comes out anyway
So why can't I kill
Someone I hate

Two songs whose lyrics I feel i connect with or think are really deep:

"Slow Cheetah" - RHCP:
Wakin' up dead inside of my head,
Will never, never do, there is no med-
No medicine to take...

I've had a chance to be insane,
Asylum from the fallin' rain.
I've had a chance to break...

"Kryptonite" - 3 Doors Down:
I took a walk around the world to ease my troubled mind
I left my body lyin' somewhere in the sands of ime
I watched the world float to the dark side of the moon
Felt that there's nothing I could do, yeah.
Kewangji: Posdy zwei tosdy osdy oady. Bork bork bork, hoppity syphilis bork.

Eebster the Great: What specifically is moving faster than light in these examples?
doogly: Hands waving furiously.

Please use he/him/his pronouns when referring to me.

Not sure if anyone has posted this yet, but it's always touched a few key points in my head when I hear "The Mr. T Experience - Even Hitler Had a Girlfriend"
Spoiler:
I still haven't found a girlfriend,
Though i've tried a lot.
So, can you help me please,
It's tougher than i thought.

The odds are pretty good,
but the goods are pretty odd.
Though at this point,
I'll take anything you've got.

I see this all the time,
Nice girls in love with jerks,
What could they be thinking?
Tell me how it works.

If i got some problems,
Well i wouldn't be the first.
But the ones I have in mind are even worse.

And even Hitler had a girlfriend,
Who he could always call,
That would always be there for him
In spite of all his faults
He was the worst guy ever.
reviled and despised,
Even Hitler had a girlfriend
So why can't I?
Why can't I?

Life is full of contradictions
Hard to understand
And for every happy woman,
There's a lonely man

Nixon had his puppy.
Charles Manson had his clan.
God forbid that I get a girlfriend.

Even Hitler had a girlfriend
Who he could call his own,
To sweeten days of bitterness,
and feeling all alone

I'm not as bad as Hitler,
But that doesn't mean a thing,
Since they'd rather be with Hitler, more than me
I don't see, why they'd rather be with Hitler,
more than me

This song has stolen my heart, in every rendition I've listened to: (But i rather enjoy Dropkick Murphy's rendition)
Spoiler:
In the merry month of May, From my home I started,
Left the girls of Tuam, Nearly broken hearted,
Saluted father dear, Kissed my darlin' mother,
Drank a pint of beer, My grief and tears to smother,
Then off to reap the corn, And leave where I was born,
I cut a stout blackthorn, To banish ghost and goblin,
In a brand new pair of brogues, I rattled o'er the bogs,
And frightened all the dogs,On the rocky road to Dublin.

One, two, three, four five,
Hunt the hare and turn her
Down the rocky road
And all the ways to Dublin,
Whack-fol-lol-de-ra.

While in Mullingar that night, I rested limbs so weary,
Started by daylight, Next mornin' light and airy,
Took a drop of the pure, To keep my heart from sinkin',
That's an Irishman's cure, Whene'er he's on for drinking.
To see the lasses smile, Laughing all the while,
At my curious style, 'Twould set your heart a-bubblin'.
They ax'd if I was hired, The wages I required,
Till I was almost tired, Of the rocky road to Dublin.

One, two, three, four five,
Hunt the hare and turn her
Down the rocky road
And all the ways to Dublin,
Whack-fol-lol-de-ra.

Well, in Dublin next arrived, I thought it such a pity,
To be so soon deprived, A view of that fine city.
Then I took a stroll, All among the quality,
My bundle it was stole, In a neat locality;
Something crossed my mind, Then I looked behind;
No bundle could I find, Upon my stick a wobblin'.
Enquirin' for the rogue, They said my Connacht brogue,
Wasn't much in vogue, On the rocky road to Dublin.

One, two, three, four five,
Hunt the hare and turn her
Down the rocky road
And all the ways to Dublin,
Whack-fol-lol-de-ra.

While, From there I got away, My spirits never failin'
Landed on the quay As the ship was sailin';
Captain at me roared, Said that no room had he,
When I jumped aboard, A cabin found for Paddy,
Down among the pigs I played some funny rigs,
Danced some hearty jigs, The water round me bubblin',
When off Holyhead, I wished myself was dead,
Or better far instead, On the rocky road to Dublin.

One, two, three, four five,
Hunt the hare and turn her
Down the rocky road
And all the ways to Dublin,
Whack-fol-lol-de-ra.

The boys of Liverpool, When we safely landed,
Called myself a fool; I could no longer stand it;
Blood began to boil, Temper I was losin',
Poor ould Erin's isle They began abusin',
"Hurrah my soul," sez I, My shillelagh I let fly;
Some Galway boys were by, Saw I was a hobble in,
Then with a loud hurray, They joined in the affray.
We quickly cleared the way, For the rocky road to Dublin.

One, two, three, four five,
Hunt the hare and turn her
Down the rocky road
And all the ways to Dublin,
Whack-fol-lol-de-ra.
... with gigantic melancholies and gigantic mirth, to tread the jeweled thrones of the Earth under his sandalled feet.
