Izawwlgood wrote:This song has stolen my heart, in every rendition I've listened to.
That is one of the songs I always look for first on CDs where I'd expect to find it, but I rarely do. Haven't heard many renditions of it at all. But it's one of my favourite songs to sing.

From a song I keep coming back to lately:
Andy Prieboy wrote:I told the priest don't count on any second coming
God got his ass kicked the first time he came down here slumming.
He had the balls to come, the gall to die and then forgive us.
No, I don't wonder why, I wonder what he thought it would get us.

It's one of those songs I knew by heart long before I knew what it was about. Which seems strange because I had CDs with live versions and explanations and now it just seems obvious:
God says "Jump"
But I'll set the time
'Cause if he ever saw her
It was through these eyes of mine!
And if he ever suffered it was me who did his crying.

Hey hey, good bye.
Tomorrow Wendy's going to die

"Trusty Chords" by Hot Water Music

Spoiler:
"You'll get it right sometime. You will."
I tell myself that everyday.
"You don't need to latch on to anything.
You'll just end up back here
In your little limbo scene."
It's repetitious and exhausting.
I might need some therapy;
Anything to keep me in check through the day.

Don't think about your lover.
You're already steady shaking."
I might need a sedative,
But I hate the taste of medicine.
"You just need to let her go."
These pills shaking in my hand
Just make me feel defeated,
Like I'm not able to just let her go away.

I hate this place but I love these chords.
"An empty fate just means an even score."
And the pain this morning...
It filled my head.
It's Jameson.
It means that I'm not dead.

And I just can't seem to get away
There's no such thing as escape,
Even with the sedatives
You're always in the same state,
Clutching to a limbo scene.
You're never changing anything,
You just stop the shaking.
And it's constantly repeated through the days.

"By Torpedo or Crohn's" by Why?

To get the full effect you really need to hear Yoni's flow

Spoiler:
sleeping late i hear the sad horns
of labor truck sigh
my neighbor walks by
high heels click dry
like half a proud horse downbrook
i hear somebody's babbling i mistook
for a cavalry whispering victory
to the sparks in their kindling
but but all their green wood's wet and unmet
as of yet by the gases of flame
pressing again the pending physics
of my passed down last name
living in the tier between two spaces condemned
in one of the many places
you're not i am
hiding from my friends in the bathroom at thrift town
to write this tune down.

today after lunch i got sick and blew chunks
all over my new shoes in the lot behind whole foods
this is a new kind of blues and what about losing
the more loved one in a duel dissatisfies you or seems just
as a kid i did not shit my pants much,
why start now with this stuff
and man i do not bluff
second caller gets bit by a dog or jeff dahmer
kisses of stitches no mitt for these pitches
lone pone one master of the cheap pun,
if i'm not raw i'm just a bit underdone
but i'd be okay cool as a rail
if they just let us have health food in hell

good heavens background radiation
and the black arts awaiting
not the same since i
switched my hair part and started shaving
got hacksed my hidden hair gone corners
oh i'll never be a joiner
life long local foreigner i
raw lung homegrown faking co-ed naked choir
second tenor highest riser blessed clever compromiser
i'll be proudly mouthing watermelon every song
i put the phone to my ear
but all's i hears a dial tone
will they map my skull and wrap my bones
when my wig is gone hmmm
i'll go unknown by torpedo or crohns
only those evil live to see
their own likeness in stone
my brother said that

i can decide
while i'm alive i'll feel alive
and what's next
i guess i'll know when i've gotten there

"Here's to Love" by The Matches

Spoiler:
The first had scars in her eyebrows, just like yours
Woke the neighbors with another
Hope you heard
One more on all fours, forehead to floor like yours once was
And I hope you heard.

One with breath all menthol, just like yours
Tangled in taxis with another
Hope you heard
Sun's exposed my clothes scattered across more bedroom floors than just yours
And I hope you heard.

And I, I, I, I, I
I hope it gets back to you
Back to, back to you oh oh oh
Back at you
I hope it gets back to you.
It gets you, it gets to you.

My gun-show hoodie is history, it's just like yours
Goodwill's got your mixtapes
I hope you heard
Kept the ticket stubs in the bottom drawer, mine and yours, I don't care
And I hope you heard

I, I, I, I, I
I hope it gets back to you
Back to, back to you oh oh oh
Back at you
I hope it gets back to you.
It gets you, it gets to you.

Love moves like a car crash
Love zooms like a whiplash
So let's toast to lost romance
So hoist high that empty glass...

Here's to love
Here's to love
Here's to love
Here's to love

And I, I, I, I, I
I hope it gets back to you
Back to, back to you oh oh oh
Back at you
I hope it gets back to you.
It gets you, it gets...
Oh, ot gets you, it gets to you...
It gets you, it gets to you, yeah.

"Scarlet Rose" by Andy Cook

Spoiler:
When I was just a boy so desperate
lying there on a river-bed as you went away
I threw my voice so far under the tree that wept
On the day they cut it down from the garden

And I know that you can't be waiting back at home
Cause there's things that happen we just gotta know

Don't want a pretty girl I want familiar eyes
Staring back at me beautiful with mother's smile
You'll hold me nice and slow, you'll put me right to sleep
Well I fall for you every time I move my feet

And I know that you can't be waiting back at home
Cause there's things that happen we just gotta know

With a scarlet rose
in the place of growing old
With a scarlet rose
in the place of growing old

And I know that you can't be waiting back at home
And I know that you can't be waiting back at home
And I know that you can't be waiting back at home
Cause there's things that happen we just gotta know

Man Man - 'Van Helsing Boombox' wrote:Only time will tell if I'll allow
The scenery around to eat me alive

I wanna sleep for weeks like a dog at her feet
Even though I know it won't work out in the long run

So I burn down the wall, breathe like a shadow
These arms I once knew hold me like ghosts
I learn how to speak a forgotten language
Fall in the sea but forget how to swim

When anything that's anything becomes nothing
That's everything
And nothing is the only thing you ever seem to have

But only time will tell if I'll allow
The scenery around to eat me alive

I want to sleep for weeks like a dog at her feet
Even though I know it won't work out in the long run

So I burn down the bone, breathe like a shadow
These arms I once knew hold me like ghosts
I learn how to speak defeated language
I fall in the street as I howl at the moon

When anything that's anything becomes nothing
That's everything
And nothing is the only thing you ever seem to have

La la la la la....

Man, I always thought even more than the mustache line, the true absurdity of the song you're referring to is that it's called "push the eagle's stomach".

When does *that* mental image start making sense?

(totally my favorite song of theirs, too)

Need Versus Want wrote:Hello?
Come on, I know you're there
Yeah, I have arrived with a message
From someone you've wanted to hear from
That may get you running scared
Let's go
It's time to show your wares
I've got what you need, we haven't much time
Hey I'm only the messenger
Be sure to tip me fair

The roll of even tide
May balance either side
And so I know I'm right
To say you're out of time

That's right
I've seen this once before
On some tv show
Only difference is they broke down the door
Let's go
It's time to show your wares
Yeah I got what you want, I'll say it again
I'm only the messenger
Working for my fair share

If I could, yeah if I could
Lend you a secret to clean out your closet
And if I could, you know I'd want to
Buy you a ticket to nowhere but safety
But as things are
I have no more secrets, I'm only the messenger

Goodbye
And thanks for all your help
They'll be by in the morning to gather your things
If you're gone they will find you, so get on your knees
Just to pray you remember one moment of ease
Sorry, I'm just the messenger and now it's my time to leave
Goodbye

I can't imagine this song hasn't been posted already, but the lyrics (the video! and the guitar!) just hasmy soul ablaze... I've bolded my favorite in the first chorus:
Spoiler:
I was walking down the street,
When out the corner of my eye
I saw a pretty little thing approaching me.
She said "I've never seen a man
Who looks so all alone,
Could you use a little company?
If you pay the right price
Your evening will be nice,
And you can go and send me on my way."
I said "You're such a sweet young thing
Why you do this to yourself?"
She looked at me and this is what she said,

"Oh, there ain't no rest for the wicked,
Money don't grow on trees.
I got bills to pay,
I got mouths to feed,
There ain't nothing in this world for free.
I know I can't slow down,
I can't hold back,
Though you know, I wish I could.
No there ain't no rest for the wicked,
Until we close our eyes for good
".

Not even fifteen minutes later
I'm still walking down the street,
When I saw a shadow of a man creep out of sight.
Then he walks up from behind
And puts a gun up to my head,
He made it clear he wasn't looking for a fight.
He said "Give me all you've got
I want your money not your life,
But if you try to make a move I won't think twice."
I said "You can have my cash
But first you know I got to ask
What made you want to live this kind of life?"

He said "There ain't no rest for the wicked,
Money don't grow on trees.
I got bills to pay,
I got mouths to feed,
There ain't nothing in this world for free.
I know I can't slow down,
I can't hold back,
Though you know, I wish I could.
No there ain't no rest for the wicked,
Until we close our eyes for good".

Now a couple hours passed
And I was sitting at my house,
The day was winding down and coming to an end.
So I turned on the TV
And flipped it over to the news,
And what I saw I almost couldn't comprehend.
I saw a preacher man in cuffs he'd taken money from the church,
He's got this bank account with righteous dollar bills.
But even still I can't say much
Because I know we're all the same,
Oh yes we've all got to satisfy those thrills.

"Oh, there ain't no rest for the wicked,
Money don't grow on trees.
We got bills to pay,
We got mouths to feed,
There ain't nothing in this world for free.
I know we can't slow down,
We can't hold back,
Though you know, we wish we could.
No there ain't no rest for the wicked,
Until we close our eyes for good"
... with gigantic melancholies and gigantic mirth, to tread the jeweled thrones of the Earth under his sandalled feet.

And another line from another one of their songs!

Cage the Elephant wrote:And here's the moral to the story
We don't do it for the glory
We don't do it for the money
We don't do it for the fame
So you critics who despise us
Go ahead and criticize us
It's your tyranny that drives us, adds the fire to our flames
... with gigantic melancholies and gigantic mirth, to tread the jeweled thrones of the Earth under his sandalled feet.

Recent obsession: Jens Lekman - Your Arms Around Me

I was slicing up an avocado
When you came up behind me
With your quiet brand new sneakers
Your reflection I did not see
It was the hottest day in August
And we were heading for the sea
For a second my mind started drifting

You put your arms around me
You put your arms around me
You put your arms around

Blood sprayed on the kitchen sink
Whats this? I had time to think
I see the tip of my index finger
My mind is slowly creating a link
From your mouth speaks your lovely voice
The best comments I've ever heard
Oh honey you've cut off your finger
I bet that's gonna hurt

You put your arms around me
You put your arms around me
You put your arms around

I must've passed out on the porch
I'd never seen so many bright stars
When I wake up I'm in the waiting room
Of the local ER
My hand is wrapped in toilet paper
And my shirts all blood red
I see you standing there like an angel
And I say baby I must be dead

You put your arms around me
You put your arms around me
You put your arms around me

I wish this song didn't speak to me so much.
Spoiler:
I've got a hunger
Twisting my stomach into knots
That my tongue was tied off

My brain's repeating
"if you've got an impulse let it out"
But they never make it past my mouth.

This is the sound of settling.

Our youth is fleeting
Old age is just around the bend
And i can't wait to go grey

And i'll sit and wonder
Of every love that could've been
If i'd only thought of something charming to say.

This is the sound of settling.

I've got a hunger twisting my stomach into knots.
For today I took a break (only a short one) from listening to Eternal Nightcap over and over and played through the Gadflys again. There is about one song they did that I'm not sure about the words, but I think I have them all now. It's been bugging me for years.
Spoiler:
Never was I one for parties
I only came to be with you
We could jump and shout
we could let it all out
But it just wouldn't do me that much good

I never liked the way you cried out
in the midst of a cool embrace
We are old and wide apart
I'm nothing in your heart
The feelings I had are just a disgrace.

It's only sound that'll make my head go round
only sound that'll make my head go round
It's the only sound that'll make my head go round

Nobody ever comes to my house
Nobody ever looks my way
well, I just can't explain
Guess it's something in my brain
things will often turn out this way.

I never liked the way you cried out
in the midst of a cool embrace
We are old and wide apart
I'm nothing in your heart
The feelings I had are just a disgrace.

It's only sound that'll make my head go round
only sound that'll make my head go round
It's the only sound that'll make my head go round

let's just dance we've got nothing to say
let's just dance we've got nothing to lose
let's just dance we've got nothing to say

Listen to the radio
watch it on the video
put it on a stereo
round and round and round and round and oh
it's only sound.
(continued refrains etc.)
It came on just as I'd been epxressing this very sentiment elsewhere:
The Gadflys, It's Only Sound wrote:Well, I just can't explain
Guess it's something in my brain
Things will often turn out this way.
The Mighty Thesaurus wrote:I believe that everything can and must be joked about.

Eminem has some great lyrics.

"I'm not the first king of controversy,
but I am the worst thing since Elvis Presley
To do black music so selfishly,
and use it to get myself wealthy! ( Hey!)"

Lots of great lyrics by Modest Mouse too. ( See singature. )

And of course Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds.

"O, brother buy me one more drink,
I'll explain the nature of my pity.
Yes let me tell you once again,
I am the captain of my pain."
Are you ready? Well I made my bet
Are you ready? I made some.. preparations.
Are you ready? But I'm older now!
But are you ready? Yeah...

Fear of a Blank Planet - Porcupine Tree
Spoiler:
Sunlight coming through the haze
No gaps in the blinds
To let it inside
The bed is unmade, some music still plays

TV, yeah it's always on
A flicker of the screen
A movie actress screams
I'm basking in the shit flowing out of it

I'm stoned in the mall again
Terminally bored
Shuffling around the stores
And shoplifting is getting so last year’s thing

My Xbox is a god to me
I finger on the switch
My mother is a bitch
My father gave up ever trying to talk to me

Don't try engaging me
The vaguest of shrugs
The prescription drugs
You'll never find a person inside

My face is mogadon
Curiosity
He's given up on me
I'm tuning out desires
The pills are on the rise

How can I be sure I'm here?
The pills that I've been taking confuse me
I need to know that someone sees that
There's nothing left, I simply am not here

I'm through with pornography
The acting is lame
The action is tame
Explicitly dull
arousal annulled

Your mouth should be boarded up
Talking all day with nothing to say
Your shallow proclamations
All misinformation

My friend says he wants to die
He's in a band, they sound like Pearl Jam
Their clothes are all black
The music is crap

In school I don't concentrate
And sex is kinda fun, but just another one
Of all the empty ways of using up the day

How can I be sure I'm here?
The pills that I've been taking confuse me
I need to know that someone sees that
There's nothing left, I simply am not here

Bipolar disorder
Can't deal with the boredom
Bipolar disorder
Can't deal with the boredom

Don’t try to be liked
You don't mind
You feel no sun
You steal a gun
To kill time
You're somewhere
You're no where
You don't care
You catch the breeze
You still the leaves
So now where?

Stairway to Heaven:
There's a lady who's sure
All that glitters is gold
And she's buying a stairway to heaven

When she gets there she knows
If the stores are all closed
With a word she can get what she came for

Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
And she's buying a stairway to heaven

There's a sign on the wall
But she wants to be sure
'Cause you know sometimes words have
Two meanings

In a tree by the brook
There's a songbird who sings
Sometimes all of our thoughts are
Misgiven

Ooh, it makes me wonder

Ooh, it makes me wonder

There's a feeling I get
When I look to the west
And my spirit is crying
For leaving

In my thoughts I have seen
Rings of smoke through the trees
And the voices of those
Who stand looking

Ooh, it makes me wonder

Ooh, it really makes me wonder

And it's whispered that soon
If we all call the tune
Then the piper will lead us to reason

And a new day will dawn
For those who stand long
And the forests will
Echo with laughter

Oh, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, ooh, whoa, oh

If there's a bustle in your hedgerow
Don't be alarmed now
It's just a spring clean
For the May queen

Yes, there are two paths you can go by
But in the long run
There's still time to change
The road you're on

And it makes me wonder

Aw, uh, oh

Your head is humming and it won't go
In case you don't know
The piper's calling you to join him

Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow?
And did you know
Your stairway lies on the whispering wind?

(Solo)

And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our soul
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show
How everything still turns to gold
And if you listen very hard
The truth will come to you at last
When all are one and one is all
To be a rock and not to roll

And she's buying a stairway
To heaven...

Kashmir:
Oh let the sun beat down upon my face, stars to fill my dream
I am a traveler of both time and space, to be where I have been
To sit with elders of the gentle race, this world has seldom seen
They talk of days for which they sit and wait and all will be revealed

Talk and song from tongues of lilting grace, whose sounds caress my ear
But not a word I heard could I relate, the story was quite clear
Oh, Oh
Oh, Oh

Oo, Baby, I've been flying... oo yeah, mama, there ain't no denyin'
Oh, oo yeah, I've been flying, mama, ain't no denyin', no denyin'

Oh, all I see turns to brown, as the sun burns the ground
And my eyes fill with sand, as I scan this wasted land
Trying to find, trying to find where I've been.

Oh pilot of the storm who leaves no trace, like thoughts inside a dream
Heed the path that led me to that place, yellow desert stream
My Shangri-La beneath the summer moon, I will return again
Sure as the dust that floats high in June, when movin' through Kashmir.

Oh, father of the four winds, fill my sails, across the sea of years
With no provision but an open face, along the straits of fear
Ohh. Oh, oh.

When I'm on, when I'm on my way, yeah
When I see, when I see the way, you stay-yeah

Ooh, yeah-yeah, ooh, yeah-yeah, when I'm down...
Ooh, yeah-yeah, ooh, yeah-yeah, well I'm down, so down
Ooh, my baby, oooh, my baby, let me take you there
Oh, come on, come on
Let me take you there. Let me take you there

And finally, Heard it through the grapevine:
Oo, Bet you're wond'ring how I knew 'bout your plans to make me blue
With some other guy that you knew before?
Between the two of us guys, you know I love you more.
It took me by surprise, I must say, when I found out yesterday. Oo,

CHORUS:
I heard it through the grapevine, not much longer would you be mine.
Oo, I heard it through the grapevine, and I'm just about to lose my mind.
Honey, honey yeah.

You know that a man ain't supposed to cry, but these tears I can't hold inside.
Losin' you would end my life you see, 'cause you mean that much to me.
You could have told me yourself that you found someone else.
Instead,

CHORUS
People say you "Hear from what you see, na na not from what you hear."
I can't help bein' confused; if it's true, won't you tell me dear?
Do you plan to let me go for the other guy that you knew before? Oo,

CHORUS

CHORUS

Pulling me into another dream,
A lucid dream.

I'm getting lost in your curls
I'm getting crushed out on the things
That only I should see
Not for boys, they're just for me

Hurry to talk, from far away
I can see you,
you curl your fist and you pull your hair

When were alone I wanna say
"Let's just stay in,
no ones here in our apartment babe"

Put on the dress that I like
It makes me so crazy, though I can't say why
Keep on your stockings for a while
Some kind of magic in the way you're lying there

I'm getting lost in your curls
I'm getting pushed back on a whim
Our breaths get wind
Back to the time when we were green
I know we have changed, but I still

Back to the time I touched your hair
I was so scared to look that mean
I think it's weird.

I'm getting lost in your curls

They’re not for boys, they’re just for me

Girl, you can talk from far away
It’s so hard for me
Only to get the urge to kiss you there
When we’re alone, I wanna say
Let’s just stay in, no one’s here in our apartment babe

Some kind of magic in the way you talk about your
Blue eye shadow
It’s exactly blue though
I refuse to call it anything but your blue

Mmm.
i dare you to take me on...

It's all good news now
Because we left the taps running
For a hundred years.
So drink into the drink,
The plastic cup of drink,
Drink with the purple, the people,
The plastic eating people.
Still connected to the moment it began...

Smile by Dave Gilmour:
Would this do
To make it all right
While sleep has taken you
Where I'm out of sight

I'll make my getaway
Time on my own
Search for a better way
To find my way home
To your smile

Wasting days and days
On this night
Always down and up
Half the night

Hopeless to reminisce
Through the dark hours
We'll only sacrifice
What time will allow us
You're sighing... sighing

All alone
Though you're right here
Now it's time to go
From your sad stare

Make my getaway
Time on my own
Needing a better way
To find my way home
To your smile

Her Morning Elegance by Oren Lavie
Sun been down for days
A pretty flower in a vase
A slipper by the fireplace
A cello lying in its case

Soon she's down the stairs
Her morning elegance she wears
The sound of water makes her dream
Awoken by a cloud of steam
She pours a daydream in a cup
A spoon of sugar sweetens up

And She fights for her life
As she puts on her coat
And she fights for her life on the train
She looks at the rain
As it pours
And she fights for her life
As she goes in a store
With a thought she has caught
By a thread
She pays for the bread
And She goes...
Nobody knows

Sun been down for days
A winter melody she plays
The thunder makes her contemplate
She hears a noise behind the gate
Perhaps a letter with a dove
Perhaps a stranger she could love

And She fights for her life
As she puts on her coat
And she fights for her life on the train
She looks at the rain
As it pours
And she fights for her life
As she goes in a store
With a thought she has caught
By a thread
She pays for the bread
And She goes...
Nobody knows

And She fights for her life
As she puts on her coat
And she fights for her life on the train
She looks at the rain
As it pours
And she fights for her life
Where people are pleasently strange
And counting the change
And She goes...
Nobody knows
Summer is miles and miles away, and no one would ask me to stay.
And I, should contemplate this change... to ease the pain.
And I, should step out of the rain... turn away.

The whole song's great, but

Just like little girls and boys
Playing with their little toys
Seems like all we were really doing
Was waiting for love

Real Love - John Lennon/Beatles

full lyrics:
Spoiler:
All my little plans and schemes,
Lost like some forgotten dreams.
Seems that all I really was doing
Was waiting for you.

Just like little girls and boys
Playing with their little toys,
Seems like all they really were doing
Was waiting for love.

Don't need to be alone.
No need to be alone.

It's real love.
It's real.
Yes, it's real love.
It's real.

From this moment on I know
Exactly where my life will go.
Seems that all I really was doing
Was waiting for love.

Don't need to be afraid.
No need to be afraid.

It's real love.
It's real.
Yes, it's real love.
It's real.

Thought I'd been in love before,
But in my heart I wanted more.
Seems like all I really was doing
Was waiting for you.

Don't need to be alone.
Don't need to be alone.

It's real love.
It's real.
It's real love.
It's real.
Yes, it's real love.
It's real.
It's real love.
It's real.

Down to your soul
Spoiler:
I'm a traitor to your flesh in a stone
You're gonna read about the way, the way a man can go
I'm a good man, are you a good man? does a good man take you home?
With a rejoicing mouth I sing for you and pause.
And I know you don't know what I'm capable of.
But in time you'll taste all the salt in my lungs.

And I see things I actually don't see.
I knew it wasn't actually you a few feet from my reach.
I looked into your eyes and I began to lose my teeth,
And I felt you were dreaming the same thing.

And I know you don't know what I'm capable of
But if you give me just one more minute I'm sure
That you would be shaking right down to your soul
And I'd hope that the fear of the lord brings me home.
I'm a man in a body of water so tall
Could swallow you whole and forget where he's going
But I carved a map in the back of my arm
Don't worry I'm coming home
I said don't worry cause I'm coming home.

I was a cage
Spoiler:
It must have been a month since you last loved me
And I havent slept a wink I hope you care
And I went to hell and back for half and hour
And started a staring contest with your man

And I was a cage
A cage to you

And it has to been a year since I was sober
And I made a point to pinch my skin again
Its any minute now that I will wake you
Watching a woman sleep can get you scared

But I am a cage
Surrounding you

But I am afraid
Of the truth
Inside of you

I could use a friend to say they love me
But im gonna make a sound you cant forget
And afterwards I swore that I would haunt you
Now im way to tired to give a shit

Cause I was a wave
Collapsing you

Yeah I was a wave
Collapsing you

I am away
coming up to you

Well I was away

Space is the place and Satellites are Spinning by Sun Ra and his Arkestra

Satellites are spinning
The planet Earth's awakening
A better day is breaking
The galaxy's awaiting

Oh, we sing this song to
A great tomorrow
Oh, we sing this song to
Our body's sorrow
-------------------
Space is the place

Outer space
Is a pleasent place
A place that's real
Free
There's no limit to the things that you can do
There's no limit to the things that you can be
Your thought
Is free
And your life is
Worthwhile

Space is the place
It's AFTER the end of the world. Don't you know that yet?

That we are it's greatest achievement

Overrating themselves

Spoilered for LONG -- The Unthinking Majority, color coded for your convenience. Black is the standard, heavy guitar that is seen in SoaD and Serj's other rock. Blue is a slow, dull piano swing sound. Orange is a very in-your-face, repetitive hypnotoad sort of sound. Just listen, really.

I will be with you when you lose your breath
Chasing the only meaningful memory you thought you had left
With some pretty bright and bubbly terrible scene
That was doing her thing on your chest
But oh comely
It isn't as pretty as you'd like to guess
Oh comely
All of your friends are letting you blow
Bristling and ugly
Bursting with fruits falling out from the holes
Of some pretty bright and bubbly friend
You could need to say comforting things in your ear
But oh comely
There isn't such one friend that you could find here
Standing next to me
He's only my enemy
I'll crush him with everything I own

Your father made fetuses
With flesh licking ladies
While you and your mother
Were asleep in the trailer park
Thunderous sparks from the dark of the stadiums
The music and medicine you needed for comforting
So make all your fat fleshy fingers to moving
And pluck all your silly strings
And bend all your notes for me
Soft silly music is meaningful magical
The movements were beautiful
All in your ovaries
All of them milking with green fleshy flowers
While powerful pistons were sugary sweet machines
Smelling of semen all under the garden
Was all you were needing when you still believed in me

And I know they buried her body with others
Her sister and mother and 500 families
And will she remember me 50 years later
I wished I could save her in some sort of time machine
Know all your enemies
We know who are enemies are

Goldaline my dear
We will fold and freeze together
Far away from here
There is sun and spring and green forever
But now we move to feel
For ourselves inside some stranger's stomach
Place your body here
Let your skin begin to blend itself with mine

My jesus god i've had this album (and song) for a decade and it still blows my mind.
uhhhh fuck.

The chorus is pulling tears. She's amazing
In the Black, Marian Call;
Spoiler:
You're in the black, in the black, in the black
Ain't it lovely baby, not comin' back
You're in the black, ain't you free

No more threats, no more debts
You're in the black baby, you left it all behind,
But you're still fine, yeah you're fine, still

We wish we could see you,
We thought you might find time to write us now and then

You're free, now and you're lonely
We love you but please do not ask us to pretend
Come home if you want a friend

I'm right on task, since you ask, I'm doing great
Really I am, I don't think, I don't blink,
Just press on press on

I'm doing fine, I'm not inclined to crack
Any time soon, baby you left us all behind,
But we're still fine, I swear we're fine, still

We cry for no reason
Late at night when we run out of thoughtless things to do

You're free, now and you're lonely
Won't you please come home so we can cry with you
I hear that you cry too

We cannot bring you back when home's not home
We can't make you pay debts you will not own
We cannot reason with the unforeseen,
And we can't compromise when there's no in between

But we wanted to see you
We thought you might find time to write us now and then

You're free, now and you're lonely
I love you but please do not ask me to pretend
Come home if you want a friend

You're free, now and you're lonely
We love you but please do not ask us to pretend
Come home if you want a friend

You're in the black, in the black, in the black,
Ain't you lovely baby, ain't you free

We cry for no reason
Late at night when we run out of thoughtless things to do

You're free, now and you're lonely
Please come home so we can cry with you
I hear that you cry too
... with gigantic melancholies and gigantic mirth, to tread the jeweled thrones of the Earth under his sandalled feet.

Yankee Bayonet by The Decemberists:

"But oh my love, though our bodies may be parted
Though our skin may not touch skin
Look for me with the sun-bright sparrow
I will come on the breath of the wind"

Here's the full song:
Spoiler:
Heart-carved tree trunk, Yankee bayonet
A sweetheart left behind
Far from the hills of the sea-swelled Carolinas
That's where my true love lies

Look for me when the sun-bright swallow
Sings upon the birch bough high
But you are in the ground with the voles and the weevils
All a'chew upon your bones so dry

But when the sun breaks
To no more bullets in Battle Creek
Then will you make a grave
For I will be home then
I will be home then
I will be home then
I will be home then
Then

When I was a girl how the hills of Oconee
Made a seam to hem me in
There at the fair when our eyes caught, careless
Got my heart right pierced by a pin

But oh, did you see all the dead of Manassas
All the bellies and the bones and the bile
No, I lingered here with the blankets barren
And my own belly big with child

But when the sun breaks
To no more bullets in Battle Creek
Then will you make a grave
For I will be home then
I will be home then
I will be home then
I will be home then

Stems and bones and stone walls too
Could keep me from you
Skein of skin is all too few
To keep me from you

But oh my love, though our bodies may be parted
Though our skin may not touch skin
Look for me with the sun-bright sparrow
I will come on the breath of the wind
Summer is miles and miles away, and no one would ask me to stay.
And I, should contemplate this change... to ease the pain.
And I, should step out of the rain... turn away.

This entire album has great lyrics. :D

I'm in a Pink Floyd mood:
So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell,
blue skies from pain.
Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?
And did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?
How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have you found? The same old fears.
Wish you were here.

Also by The Shins:
Spoiler:
A cold and wet November dawn
And there are no barking sparrows
Just emptiness to dwell upon.

I fell into a winter slide
And ended up the kind of kid who goes down chutes too narrow
Just eking out my measly pies.

But I learned fast how to keep my head up 'cause I
Know I got this side of me that
Wants to grab the yoke from the pilot and just
Fly the whole mess into the sea.

Another slow train to the coast
Some brand new gory art from way on high
I sink and then I swim all night.

I watch the ice melt on the glass
While the eloquent young pilgrims pass
And leave behind their trail
Imploring us all not to fail.

Of course I was raised to gather courage from those
Lofty tales so tried and true and
If you're able I'd suggest it 'cause this
Modern thought can get the best of you.

This rather simple epitaph can save your hide your falling mind
Fate isn't what we're up against there's no design no flaws to find
There's no design no flaws to find.

But I learned fast how to keep my head up 'cause I
Know I got this side of me that
Wants to grab the yoke from the pilot and just
Fly the whole mess into the sea.

Autumn Tint of Gold - Through the Eyes of the Dead (Thank you Microscopic cog :) ) :
Spoiler:
Did you ever notice how in the Bible,
Whenever God needed to punish someone,
or make an example,
or whenever God needed a killing,
He sent an Angel

Did you ever wonder what a creature like that must be like?
A whole existence spent praysing your God,
but always with one wing dipped in blood.

Would you ever really want to see an angel?

Hunger - Amaranthe:
Spoiler:
Hunger -Save me
One world depending on me
I have the force in me
The truth will be revealed
Higher- Faster
I am the fuel to set you free
I am your destiny
