Seems like there is a lot of violin in this thread, and I'm going to have to echo that sentiment. It just seems like such a beautiful instrument, in more ways than one. But it also seems like it's very, very hard to play.

Pretty much this for me, too. I've played guitar (and anything else with a string) for most of my life. I've studied music theory, and I know how to form chords, blend bass and treble, read sheet music, etc ... I can sit down at a piano and and figure out how to play something I know on another instrument. I just can't actually play piano, and I'd really like to.

Contrabass.

Or guqin.

It's the whole "live in a broom closet and work all day to pay the rent" problem. If I could afford it, I wouldn't have the time. If I had the time, I couldn't afford a meal, let alone a 2 grand block of wood with strings on top.

Has anyone said the slide rule?

Not sure what instrument. I'd like to be better on the piano, maybe. Not just hammer out notes.

Slide rule, piano, hammer?

Sounds like you want to learn the slide piano log.
