By whom would you like to be written?

Postby Idhan » Wed Mar 30, 2011 6:26 pm UTC

If you were turned into a fictional character, by whom would you like to be written?

I kinda have a morbid curiosity as to how I'd turn out if I were written as a Stieg Larsson character. I'd probably be an obese financier who launders cash made from the cocaine trade (spoilered for rape trigger -Lanicita)
Spoiler:
and rapes 12-year old girls for fun.
I'd pee all over myself in fear when the heroes confront me with some e-mails from my hacked PC, which I had left completely vulnerable. :D

Yes, I too would like to be an amoral, obscenely rich pedophile. (What's wrong with you?)

I think Haruki Murakami would write me well.

Douglas Adams.

Or maybe the writers of Star Trek because if I get in a bind I can simply make shit up.

As for what I'd actually like -- Kewangji, sorry if I disturbed you with my "morbid curiosity" scenario -- I think being written by Terry Pratchett would be pretty good. I know that Pterry does not always mean Discworld, but if I were a Discworld character, I'd probably be okay in the end if I were a decent guy. Also, you get the afterlife of your beliefs -- which is not quite as good as getting the afterlife of your choosing, but comes close if you're good at convincing yourself of things.

If I were feeling particularly suicidal, I'd go with George R.R. Martin. But I'd really like to see how I would be written by either Sophocles or Douglas Adams.

Neal Stephenson, on the grounds that I'm on the shy and nerdy side, and would therefore take several levels in badass about 200 pages in.

I would like to be written by Karin Boye, as that would mean I would do the right thing, either all the time, or in the end when it really mattered.

Cordwainer Smith would write me very strangely, possibly I would be a bit evil, but ultimately I would be a good guy.

I like the thought of being a good guy.

Seth Grahame-Smith. He could throw some monsters in there and things would still keep going on roughly the same course.

I had a hangover nose-vomit scene this morning that would have worked way better in a Jonathan Franzen novel than in real life.

That said, it depresses me to confess that I could easily be a character out of one of his books. I struggle towards success nevertheless. I'll probably end up being some successful male author's less-successful novelist ex-wife.

If my current life were written by an author I would like it written by Chuck Palahniuk (he wrote Fight Club the novel on which the movie of the same name was based).

If I could pick any other setting/life I'd want Stephen King to write me as a character in the Dark Tower series.

You don't want Chuck, you want Amy Hempel. She could do anything he could, but a hundred times better. The absolute master of the minimalist style Chuck employs.

This is such a good question.

For characterization, I might pick George R.R. Martin. I think he does really well by his characters. I would be very interested to see how he'd "read" me, to be honest. Of course, being written by the likes of Douglas Adams would also be completely and utterly great.

Or maybe Joss Whedon, in a graphic novel or future tv/movie script. That's not really a book so I feel like I can't pick him.
One of these days.
