I'd heard of NaNoWriMo before, but never taken part in it. This year, though, I'm giving it a try. If I'm forced to drop out of school and live on the streets, I'm blaming this thread. Just so you know.

It's okay. We're cold-hearted, evil, sadistic people here. We'll just laugh and throw stuff* at you.

Also, I'm in. I'm totally doing it. Yeah.

Iiiii am doing it for the first year, this year! But I do not actually own a computer, currently, so I am actually even more insane than the normal level of insanity it takes to do this in the first place: I am doing it by hand, and then I suppose I shall have to transcribe it on computers at the library or something.

Hmmph. I was sort of looking forward to this, but now it's looking like I'll be moving next month and that eats one's soul, and I doubt I'll have enough time or motivation to pull this off. :(

I signed up on the website today. We'll see how it goes. I have an idea, and a rough idea of plot that I've been working on all summer. However, I have only half of one scene written so far. That leaves me plenty of words to go. :)

That's right! Dishes, schmishes. Pictures, schmitures. Clothes, schmothes. You don't need all that stuff. If it can't pack itself, screw it!

I have an idea! Of course, mixing near-future technology with elves can't possibly be good, but luckily good isn't something I'm concerned with.

Sounds like a great medium to write some clichéd fantasy for me... But like lots of people have said, November is shaping up to be a hell of a busy month. Next year, when I'm at University, then yeah, I'll have a pop at it.

November is shaping up to be hellish, but I'm going to try this thing again. If it gets too much for me, then it does and I throw in the towel.

But I'm gonna try it again!
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path... Only I will remain.

I am doing it, but have no idea what I am going to write. I'm thinking something.... at least attempting to be good. I could do Sci-fi, but i don't really know what i would do. And I need to get a good idea prepared, as November is starting.... this week!
I sing anyway.

I was not being serious. Really I am doing it because I figure it'll be a great way to get all the story down on paper, and I can then convert it to graphic novel. But man, if I just came clean about it then our facade of forum rivalry would be washed down the pan.

You were singled out because there were only a few I recognised doing this, and you were both the most prolific poster in this thread and also I both like you and associate you with writing.

Bakemaster was also up for selection.

That was my concern when I first heard of NaNoWriMo, but afterwards, 500 words was nothing. NaNo really teaches you to write fast (albeit, not well).

That's the thing, I aspire to write well, so the appeal of this is kind of lost on me.
I like the goal of writing something every day, but I want to use that energy toward projects I think might actually get looked at -- website, articles, sketchbook-journal.

Helen, I look at it this way. I am intending to write a graphic novel, Remembrance. However, I have had difficulty in really building up the plot into a coherency in my head. NaNoWriMo will force me to plow through and think on the fly, and at the end of the month I will have a fully formed sotry there in front of me which I can then spend six months to a year transforming into a finely crafted graphic novel.

I am totally doing it this year! I didn't win last year, *cry*. This year will be even better because of college applications at the same time!
Also, I have no clue what I'm going to write about yet. I envy those of you who do. Although I promise some XKCD themes will show up in it. (making out with yourself scene, anyone? at the VERY least, there will be kites.)
Probably it will end up as a rather contrived string of running, interrelated short stories, and make no sense to anybody.

so. freakin'. excited.
Everybody here should do NaNoWriMo. EVERYBODY.
