I wonder, when and what for may shm... (probably yiddish) be used, like in the singsongwriter Nilson Schmilson´s name. Or was it an album of an unknown person? I don´t know. I guess it may be a way to express that Harry Nilson was an unimportant person. Thx from Bavaria.

Are you asking about this stereotypical thing?

I don't know much about its Yiddish origins (other than what can be read there), but it's something that tends to indicate Jewish(-American) colloquial English speakers of a certain age and status. In the album name, it seems to be a nodding reference to the practice, but I don't know enough about the material to know the actual thinking involved.

shm-reduplication! Never thought of that. Thanks so much.
