Longest Chess Word

Postby bantler » Wed Jan 31, 2018 6:29 pm UTC

What is the longest word that can be formed in order from the square-letters in the course of a legal chess-game opening?
Algebraic Notation with all punctuation, numbers and piece-letters deleted.

Post your answers in full notation.

Example:

1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bb5 a6 = eafcba (not a legal word)

My record is 8.

Since pawns can provide up to 4 guaranteed moves in each file, to say nothing of all the other pieces that can legally move to that file, this is pretty much a referendum on the longest English word that doesn't use any of the letters I-Z. According to the CSW word list used for international English-language Scrabble tournaments, that word is DEADHEADED, which would be represented as 1. d3 e6 2. a3 d6 3. h3 e5 4. a4 d5 5. e3 d4 (0-1)

Deadheaded (10) beats my Beheaded (8).

cabbageheaded (13) gets some usage.

Might be able to form a longer word in German. So far I've seen Gehegedach (10).

Abracadabra– an 11-letter word that doesn't involve only pawn moves.

1. a3 b6 2. Ra2 c5 3. a4 d5 4. a5 b5 5. Ra3

Edit: aww, sorry, I misread the question, apparently piece letters are discounted. That's not as interesting!
If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family Anatidae on our hands. –Douglas Adams

You are correct; it is significantly less interesting to exclude piece letters.
Dropping numbers is a far more clever and difficult puzzle.

If I were to add a PART TWO:

What is the longest word that can be formed from the algebraic-notation of a legal chess game, with numbers deleted?
