### Bloxorz optimal path

I am seeking the lowest possible number of moves necessary to complete Bloxorz, the highly addictive Flash game. I thought I had an optimal path, but tonight I accidentally discovered a shorter path. I then discovered two more in short order.

I can now reach the beginning of Stage 4 with only 43 moves.

Spoiler:
Stage 1: R D R R D D R = 7 moves
Stage 2: U R D, R R R R, U U D R D, R R U R U = 17 moves
Stage 3: R U R R R, U L D R U U, R R R D D D R U = 19 moves
Total: 43 moves

I currently reach Stage 12 with 323 moves. Can anyone beat that, and if so, how?

(For purposes of this thread, don't count hitting the spacebar as a move; the game's move counter doesn't count the spacebar as a move. Commas in the lists of moves are only to separate groups of moves with clear objectives.)

### Re: Bloxorz optimal path

could someone list the passcodes for all the levels? i played through today and figured out what the basic game plan is for each level, but i didn't bother to write down the codes as i went.

I managed level 18 in 85 moves. That's 780 moves to level 19.

I have no idea how you finished level 20 in 51 moves, though. I can only do 56.

EDIT: Managed level 22 in 66 moves.

### Re: Bloxorz optimal path

I'm stuck on stage 6. This is the quickest way I've figured out to do the beginning, but I need to shave off three steps and I'm almost positive there's no way to shave them off the ending:

Help?

### Re: Bloxorz optimal path

Watch the YouTube videos "Bloxorz All Levels - 2040 Moves Total." He does do it in 2040, and it is replicable. However, with minor improvements on his paths on levels 2, 5, 10, 12, 22, and 32, and utilizing his improvements on 16 - 26, and especially 33, I believe I can reach 2036.

Exact move counts upcoming in a future post.

### Re: Bloxorz optimal path

Alright, I've finished all of the levels, and matched or beat all standing scores except for level 20, which I can't get in less than 56 moves. My totals:

Spoiler:
1 - 7 (7)
2 - 17 (24)
3 - 19 (43)
4 - 28 (71)
5 - 33 (104)
6 - 35 (139)
7 - 44 (183)
8 - 10 (193)
9 - 24 (217)
10 - 57 (274)
11 - 47 (321)
12 - 65 (386)
13 - 46 (432)
14 - 67 (499)
15 - 62 (561)
16 - 28 (589)
17 - 106 (695)
18 - 85 (780)
19 - 67 (847)
20 - 56 (903)
21 - 71 (974)
22 - 65 (1039)
23 - 75 (1114)
24 - 57 (1171)
25 - 55 (1226)

26 - 104 (1330)
27 - 71 (1401)
28 - 100 (1501)
29 - 104 (1605)
30 - 114 (1719)
31 - 91 (1810)
32 - 129 (1939)
33 - 65 (2004)

I'd love to know how to shave off five moves on level 20. It seems impossible to me.

EDIT: I've improved my score considerably, partially thanks to the video (for level 23). Scores above have been updated to reflect this. If level 20 is really possible in 51 moves, I can do it in under 2000 moves!

P.S. I also have written up my solutions if anyone wants them.

Darn it! I'm sorry. I used Excel to track my overall move count and generate individual level counts, but that post was made before I realized I had a floating ten-move error somewhere in the list. As you see, the post was at 4AM Mountain time, and I had just spent two hours completing the game while tracking scores. I was tired.

I finished level 20 in 61 moves. I hope it hasn't been driving you TOO batty.

Edit: BTW, how did you beat Stage 16 in 28 moves? I can't seem to drop two moves.

Also, freeonlinegames.com has stolen and hacked the game, changing the name to Block'n'Roll (bad) and adding a high score table (good except it's hacked and stolen). They had the gall to retain the original credit screen, which mentions Damien and calls it Bloxorz.

I'd like your solution to level 20. Here's my best, 57 moves:

Spoiler:
DLDRDLUU, RUULLL, (either LDDRULLD or DLLURDDL), DDLD(O)URUU, RUURRRDLD(), -BAR- LURD -BAR-, LLLLDDDDDRRR(O)RD

Which group of moves can be done better? Is the improvement subtle or revolutionary?

It's subtle.

For a while now I've been playing level 20 with 58 moves, because I had forgotten one additional unnecessary workaround. It took a while, but I got back down to 56.

Also, I finally got level 16 in 28 moves. It took me a while to figure out what you were saying, because I wasn't making a different move which you were. It's hard to believe that

No one has a python script to brute-force solutions yet? Though I suppose that's fun only once, whereas doing the levels on your own gives you a lot more time to play.

Still, I'm going to do it. I'll have to play the game again to see what I will have to implement.
