Basketball Player riddle

A famous basketball player is lying on an operating table in the hospital.

He is there for routine surgery and he's not nervous at all.

They place the gas mask over his face and he hears a nurse say, "Just relax. Everything is going to be fine."

This statement makes him extremely nervous.

Why?
