Yet another marble puzzle

Postby toms2866 » Tue Oct 31, 2006 11:55 pm UTC

An Evil Forest Person has 100 bags of 100 marbles each. All of the marbles in all of the bags are identical 1 gram marbles, except bag X, which contains marbles that weigh 1.001 grams. He promises to tell you how the tractor got on the island if you can tell him which bag has the slightly heavier marbles.

The Evil Forest Person provides a scale that measures to the .001 gram. What is the minimum weighings (and how it works) required to identify the bag with the slightly heavier marbles?

Solution thread.
