Overclock

Postby Mikemk » Thu Jun 09, 2016 5:38 am UTC

I just overclocked my computer!
I first did +9% GPU/+25% VRAM. (+91/+174) (+in addition to +6% factory overclock) (stable)
I then did +25% RAM. (+266, It's only running at 1333). I didn't have to change timings any.
At this point, I was getting an average of 0.1% better FPS in games.
I then did +25% CPU BCLK -25% RAM (+667 MHZ/+266) RAM is still running 1333 due to BCLK change.
PCIe, SATA, USB, etc are on their own clock which I won't change.
I am now getting about 80% FPS improvement in games. 25% CPU boost translates to 80% FPS boost. Doesn't make much sense to me. Will run Prime95+Furmark all night.

Temps are a bit worrying for the CPU though at 96-97C, though I doubt anything but Prime95 will ever reach those temps. Also, the fans seem to be keeping it from getting any hotter.

Specs are in my sig
Computer specs:
Spoiler:
Intel i5-750 (OC 3.33 GHz)
8GB (OC 1333 MHz) (2GB HDD cache)
NVIDIA GT 740 (OC 1149 MHz) 4GB (OC 841 MHz)
480GB SSD (120 HDD cache)
2x2TB HDD (not RAID)
Windows 10
Linux Mint in VM

80% fps improvement in games? On more than one?
Getting 25% improvement would be shocking. 80% implies far more changes that can be expected. I hope the temperatures are survivable (I really can't tell anymore). About the only thing that I can think of that would cause such a thing (80%) would be some sort of banging into vsync issue.

Is there anyway to measure the ms between frames? The only thing I can think of is if they are fixed multiples of each other. But LCDs really shouldn't work that way (of course since g-sync and free-sync apparently help, they really don't work in the obvious ways).
