Dell Hacks

Postby HiFiFoci » Mon Jul 07, 2008 8:00 am UTC

Feel free to use this for other Dell hacks, but my main question is whether or not there are preconfigured hacked BIOS for me to flash in made by some kid sitting in a basement somewhere. I'm no good in a hex environment (or any coding related environments) so I really don't want to go in and muck about myself. I've searched the net a bit and found very little if nothing in the way of encouraging venues. Does anyone know if and where I can find these?

For the record I'm running on a Vostro 1500.

I had also wondered if somebody had tried mucking about with the BIOS to use the nearest-equivalent ASUS bios on Dell systems. I know that most Dell boards are made by asus and share a great deal of components with other Asus boards (some to the point where I can't tell the difference between them).

Well, what exactly do you want to do? What's the purpose?

I think we are missing the desired effect here. As enk noted, what are you looking to do with your bios that the Dell firmware won't do?

'Dell hacks' is extremely broad...

I would guess that it has something to do with over/underclocking the processor or something similar.

once upon a long long time ago, i had a gateway with a tyan tiger 100 motherboard in it.. it had AMI bios and also had a company logo that displayed in front of the verbose bios messages. Since i had scrapped the case and put the mobo in another one, i was trying to figure out how to get rid of that logo... A trip to tyan's website found me a BIOS upgrade for that model of mobo, and after upgrading it, all I had was an AMI bios display, free from it's gateway logo as if I had just bought the mobo at a store.

dell hacks is extremely vauge.

also welcome me back to the forums, i havent posted in like six months!
