Building my first computer - looking for advice.

Hi Everyone,

I'm putting together my first built computer, and looking for any advice on the components I have currently lined up. I'm probably going to initially run XP but upgrade to Windows 7 as soon as it hits.

Motherboard- GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3R LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard

Processor- Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor Model BX80570E8400

Hard Drive- Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 ST3500410AS 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive

Case- Antec Three Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Power- SILVERSTONE ST50F 500W ATX12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Active PFC Power Supply

If you plan to game, I'd go for a better graphics card. Look into either the 4850 or 4870.

Other than that, things look pretty solid to me.

Buy a better graphics card and a cheaper mobo. I strongly recommend the 4870. Best value long-term.

I agree with the others. 2 Things other I'd say:

That memory is only $60 after rebate... over here it's $80 min. Ugh, stupid UK pricing.
I looked up some benchmarks for the HDD, it's got really nice speeds (Very most likely the single fastest seqential read speed for any 7200rpm drive), but random access times are slower than a few of the other brands newest drives. Hopefully they aren't plagued like the 7200.11 drives.
