Display advice?

Postby stone915 » Wed Feb 25, 2009 2:38 am UTC

Hi guys,

I'm looking at buying an external display for my laptop, and I'm currently checking out the Samsung 2243BWX (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824001254) and the Acer X223Wbd (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009145). Not looking to run any intense games, I mostly want the extra screen space for coding (EDIT: and movies). Anybody have any recommendations, or a reason as to why I should spend an extra $20 for the Samsung name? Thanks!

Honestly, the only major difference I see between them is that one is $20 more. Acer's not exactly an off brand either...

I have the 20" version of the Acer (same resolution) and can certainly vouch for it being a pleasant monitor to use.

Awesome, thanks guys. I think I'm leaning towards the Acer. However, I have a related question: Anyone know how legit newegg's open box products are? Thanks!

You might want to find out whether they're glossy or matte, and pick based on that and which environment you're going to use it in.

Thanks for the advice. I just checked and they're both matte, so that doesn't really make a difference.

You can get a lot more resolution for just a little bit of money:

Packs a DVI AND HDMI input too so you can switch over to some PS3/360, cable box, or similar.
