Audio Connector Oddities

Postby alexriehl » Fri Mar 30, 2012 5:35 am UTC

So, a friend wants an adapter to plug into an old-style, 5-pin military radio (U-229/U connector), from a headset with a more modern 2.5mm single plug.
Voltages will of course be hell.
Anyone have any ideas?

A quick google gave me this: http://www.prc68.com/I/U229PO.shtml

The biggest issue will be what the connection is expecting to receive. Digital or analogue? Live level or mic? Is there a schematic available for the radio?
I knew a woman once, but she died soon after.

well, a couple things -- 1. There's not going to be a pin F (it's just the outside 5). 2. The headset is a standard computer headset, so either single 2.5mm or dual 3.5mm input/output. The radio(s) use analog signals (partially because of their age); the connector is standardised, although not heavily used by the general public.

hey,
Did you ever manage to find such a connector? I'm looking into buying/making a female u229 -> female 3.5mm.

I found a set of cables that would work but they cost ~100 USD. I decided to shelve that project for now whilst I concentrate on my college classes.

Would this be possible to make. Would the incorrect voltage cause problems? Would I have to search for an analog playback device to hook it up to?
