Who wants cookies? [USA Cookie Club]

Postby quintopia » Tue Mar 24, 2009 3:30 am UTC

So I was thinking about how nicely cookies last in the mail and thought it might be a cool idea to have a cookie club in the same sort of format as the gift thing I tried to do as christmas. Here's how it works:

PM me your address.
I PM you back a different address.
Make a dozen cookies (try making something new and exotic) and send them to the address I give you.
At some point, you will receive a dozen cookies in the mail also.

Even though cookies could probably fly overseas and still be good when they get there, the only way to keep postage prices fair for the club is to limit the distance they travel. Since I'm in the U.S. and want to participate myself, I'm limiting it to the U.S.

If you're interested, post here to bump the thread and send me your address. When I'm done collecting addresses, I'll edit this post to say not to send them anymore.

RIGHT NOW I AM ACCEPTING ADDRESSES FOR THE USA COOKIE CLUB

I can do different cookies, but I'm really good with chocolate chip.
Would there be a problem if I just sent them? I make 'em all the time anyhow.

Well, I sent a batch of cookies to Oregon this week and they arrived successfully and tastily.

BTW, levic, I saw the vid your avatar comes from t'other night. Hilarious! "I'm sorry for being a weiner."

About how much does it cost to send cookies in the mail? And how do you package them for minimal damage in transit?

I put mine in disposable tupperware inside a box. It cost me 8 bucks to ship.

$8 worth, apparently.
Only by invoking my name do I exist.

To be fair, I put them in a much larger box than they required and was shipping them literally to the opposite corner of the country. I probably could have sent them for $5.

In any case, I thought it was worth and would do it again.

Anyway, count me in for a round after Easter. Sounds like a fun idea.

I'm down, I can do a wicked flourless chocolate chip w/ walnuts that ships okay.
Or your standard peanut butter, oatmeal, or chocolate chip.

Also: you should include in your PM if you/your housemates/anyone else going to be nibbling on cookies has nut allergies or whatnot.

Hmm. I'm going to have to start polishing up my cookie skills. I used to have a fantastic chocolate chip recipe, but I lost it a few years back and the website I got it from died when I tried to find it again. Lately I've been doing brownies and cupcakes with a surprising amount of success but those would probably be harder to ship.

-Edit: No, wait! I did make cookies recently, and they were awesome! They were peanut butter oatmeal sandwich cremes. As soon as I feel non-lazy enough to make those again, I will sign up for this cookie club. They were somewhat labor-intensive.
