I'm just a little worried because I suspect I drink too much...

Once a week or so i'll enjoy a double espresso in steamed milk (that's a latte right?)

Caffeine makes me jittery and feeling weird. I had a boss though, who was an incredibly kind woman, but was savagely addicted to caffeine; if she didn't have a cup of coffee by 9am, she couldn't string two words together unless one was 'NEED' and the other was 'COFFEE' and if she didn't have another cup by 3pm, I had to hide sharp objects. I've never been the coffee bitch in a place of work, but I made sure she had her fix.

Me and caffeine have a strange relationship.

I am fine with drinking tea, energy drinks, and having caffeine pills. I feel fine, no ill effects.

But coffee makes me feel very jumpy and weird, and for some reason very tired. For this reason I never really drink coffee anymore, I drink tea instead.

However, at the moment I am doing 'work experience' in an office and so am having about 4 cups of coffee a day.

Sometimes I have a cup of coffee after lunch or in rare cases when I have to get up very early, but usually I don't drink any.

How much do you drink, that you think it might be too much?

I drink two cups before I go to work in the morning. And when I get to work I drink about half a pot from the time I make it to the time I leave. So about six or seven cups on a week day. I tend to drink less on the weekends.

Don't judge me. It's my precious.

When I drink coffee - 16 to 32 liquid ounces.

That said, I usually drink it for a couple of weeks, then lay off it for a few weeks, repeat.

May I suggest you create a poll?

BTW, 1-3 cups per day, usually.

During my finals I was drinking between 5 and 8 large cups a day, then I went cold turkey for a week to kick the caffeine dependence. Now it is a much more respectable 1-2 one person cafetieres, or about 3-4 small cups, and I drink it because I like it - not for the caffeine effects. Cafetiere coffee = amazing.

YES :D If suitably bored I'll probably make 1 or 2 cafetieres worth a day (6 cups I guess?). Although if I'm on the move some days I might not have any coffee at all.

I used to be a two mochas a day kind of girl. Depending on mood, or amount of sleep I would generally add a few shots of espresso, a latte or some absurdly sweet drink with chocolate and caramel and sprinkles etc... I would also at various times of the day have a regular black unsweetened cup of coffee. (I worked at a cafe so this was pretty easy to sustain). Since I started a few medications my tolerance for everything, including caffeine has gone down. One shot of espresso makes me unpleasantly twitchy. Since I switched to decaf I haven't been drinking much coffee at all which makes me sad.

Whoever asked, a shot of espresso with steamed milk is, depending on the amount of foam, a latte, a cappuccino, or a macchiato.

I'm usually alternating my coffee intake with tea throughout the day, soooo I say I drink about 2-3 cups of coffee per day. I don't think that's too much really. I use my cafetiere at home but at my current workplace, all they have is crappy instant. But ultimately, my caffeine monster does not care what form it comes in. My taste monster does, but if he had his way i'd be eating nothing but sushi, mango and chocolate.

Also, I have to have a cup of coffee in the morning before I go about my business or things just crumble away in my mind.

Generally I drink 2-4 cups inna week, and not more than one per day, and never later than noon. But it varies - sometimes I'll lay off it altogether for several weeks, and sometimes I'll approach one a day for a while, or have one after dinner, or whatever.

0-1 per day, and only when I can find really good stuff. I don't drink for the caffeine, so I don't bother if it's going to be crap.

Izawwlgood wrote:Once a week or so i'll enjoy a double espresso in steamed milk (that's a latte right?)

That's a Flat White, as far as I know. A latte is milkier and has a top of lots of foam. But I might be wrong about that, I'm no expert.

On an average day, one mug of coffee (8-12oz, depending on where I make/buy it) or a double espresso, and maybe a mug of tea later on. I think those 32oz buckets of coffee they sell are silly. 32oz of anything is far too much for a single serving.

If by 'cup' you mean one of those 4-6oz ceramic things, then a couple at one sitting instead of a mugful.

Seems like that's right, according to this nifty little diagram which is also currently my wallpaper :D

This. I went to the caf with some colleagues the other day while they got their coffee. And I hadn't had one yet that day, so I considered getting one. But I decided if I couldn't get one from Mr. Tulk, then I didn't want one. The caf actually does a pretty good (and cheap) coffee, and I don't drink Tulk's exclusively, but I just really felt like it was theirs or nothing on that occasion. That was when I knew for sure that I wasn't addicted :P

Not so much anymore, most days zero infact.

And I've been free of my addiction fo around 1½ year, back then I would rutinely drink 2½-3 litres of it per day. I would drink one cup before leaving for work, then bring a thermo of it for the train trip (about and our) which would be empty by around the middle of the first lesson, then continue at that speed for most of the day

Yes, going cold tukey was kindda weird, and I can definetely tell you that one can be addicted to coffeine. The day I decided to do a cold turkey all my students were just looking oddly at me - I couldn't put two words together, was shaking like insane and have cold shivers so that I was visible freesing

The worst part? By the end I was more or less ummune to the coffeine effect of waking you up, by then it was about the addiction, not the effect :(

One cup a day on average. Once I've had my cup, I'm usually good till the next morning with no desire for more. Works out nicely I guess.

Often none, but it depends on how I'm feeling. The last few days I've been drinking around 1qt/day. Coffee helps calm me down, and lets me focus better, on top of being a decent pain reliever.

I'd drink a lot more if I were making money, and could afford to buy a good bit to roast. Freshly roasted coffee, at its peak, chucked into a french press, is just divine.

About 5 or 6 cups a day on a weekday, usually 1 or 2 on a weekend, maybe more if I drank a lot the night before.

None. I feel coffee tastes nasty. However, I do find myself having 6-7 cups of tea around midnight the night before a big project is due(guess why :P ). The next morning I feel GREEEEAT! until about 09:00. I wonder how much of what is I feel is imagined....

None. I don't like the taste of coffee. Energy drinks have basically no effect on me - I can drink a red bull and then go straight to sleep.

Generally I don't drink any coffee. I don't like it unless it's appropriately doctored to not taste like coffee. There are occasional exceptions to this. When I'm traveling, I sometimes drink coffee, because it's usually more available than good tea. When I had an 8 AM class that I had to get up at 6 AM in to reach on time, I always stopped on the way for a cup of coffee and a snack, because otherwise I was incapable of coherent speech, let alone intelligent speech on the topic of girls' literature.

Generally, though, I drink tea. Mostly green tea these days. About 3-4 cups a day. But my cups are huge glass mugs, the size of a small mixing bowl.

When I need a sudden kick in productivity, I drink a cup of coffee. I kind of have that mentally associated with "SUPER BOOST GO!" and so it's useful to trick myself into concentrating and working hard.

That said, I've developed my own personal rules for coffee which I try to abide by (because I'm paranoid about addiction).
1.) No coffee on weekends
2.) No more than 2 cups a day and cut oneself off by the afternoon
3.) Try to not have a string of days in which I consistently have coffee.

A good method to figure out whether you are addicted to coffee is just to go cold turkey for at least a day. If you at the very least, start getting headaches or something along those lines, you probably are depedent on the caffeine. Luckily for me, coffee has the side effect of wreaking havoc with my digestive system so not abusing it is relatively easy.

I used to hate how coffee tasted, mostly because I had my first cup at age 13 and I suspect my body just wasn't ready. Then I started college and wanted a way to stay awake during classes so I tried to start drinking again. I still didn't particularly like the taste but I thought that if it could help me go through my classes, I'd might as well drink it up.

Now I'm literally in love with coffee and not only did I end up enjoying its taste but I can't go through a work day without a cup. Caffeine sure is a hell of a drug.

So yeah, back on topic, I usually drink 1-3 cups a day on week days and almost never on weekends. I'm not an addict yet, fortunately :P

Once every 2-4 weeks. I don't have a coffeepot, so I never drink it unless I go out for it. And I never buy coffee anywhere but starbucks. I never really think about coffee as a beverage at any restaurant. I just order a pop.

I mean, it's weird because the caffeine in a 2 liter of diet coke (which I could easily consume within 8 hours) does nothing to me. But one iced grande white mocha from starbucks (what, 12 oz? 16 at the most) leaves me feeling jittery from about an hour later, until I go to sleep. I hate that feeling and I only get it with coffee, so I just stay away from coffee.

Occasionally I drink a cup or a small pot of Turkish coffee. Make it with a some honey, cardamom, and cinnamon and it comes out wonderful, jazzing and relaxing at the same time.

I've been drinking fewer lattes and more long blacks lately, and I've just noticed it's taking a toll on my teeth. I might need a professional clean to get the stain off.

During the week I have a cup when I get into the office while reading through mail and such. If I need to be alert for most of the evening (usually role-play) I'll grab a cup with food at around 7-ish.

On the weekend it's usually a cup as I get up after a lie-in and maybe another cup or two during the day.

To add the caffiene debate: I'll generally only touch energy drinks if I'm off to a club where I'll be dancing a lot. I used to drink them when I had awkward shifts at work but I didn't feel more awake, just more twitchy.

Haha, thankyou

But yeah I've noticed that my teeth are starting to suffer from all the coffee. Ah well, I'm sure I'll deal with it

None most days. A local coffee shop is doing a 'recession buster' deal: and espresso for 99 cents, so I'll get one of those when I want a place to read without my distractions.

Fun fact about me: I've never made coffee in my 23 years on earth. I like coffee OK, but never enough that I'm inspired to actually make some for myself.

I drink 6 cups at work give or take one, that’s 36 fl.oz, and another 2 mugs, that’s about 20 fl.oz.
So any given weekday I’ll drink about 56 fl.oz of coffee.
I know it’s way too much.

Fun fact:
According to wolframalpha it’s about 1/3 of the amount of blood I have. :D

About three cups a week, usually sugared/iced/creamed to the point where it tastes very little like coffee. For example, I'm a big Ice Capp fan.

I actually rarely drink coffee. Only when I'm sleepy and need to concentrate or when I have a really huge hangover. And then, it's black espresso!

Too much coffee = the amount at which you become dependent on it, and where that dependency is a problem.
Alternatively, too much coffee = the amount at which you don't like it anymore.

So, naturally, "too much" will vary from person to person.

Me, I drink 1-2 cups a day (a 'cup' actually being the small size at a normal US coffee store--independent or Saxby's, preferably; can't stand Starbucks). I'll make an exception on vacation and holidays. Back about 8 years ago, however, I drank somewhere around 3-6 cups a day; when I realized I'd become dependent on it, I scaled back. KF

I have 1-2 cups a day, fairly average I think. Tea though… being english, perhaps 5-10 cups, probably waaay to much.
