Shanghai- The potstickers there are amazing. Also, venders everywhere sell these ridiculous lamb skewers... at 25 cents each.
I'm also going on a school trip to France just so I can eat their food :D

Bastard took mine!

I've investigated this in some detail. Apparently, you have to call ahead with your license plate number so they can ensure you only get one case a year. Also, I'm not sure if you're able to choose which style (they make a couple beers). You also have to buy a case, and it's not exactly easy to take it back home with you... (or legal, I don't think). Not an easy thing to get a hold of, even if you go there and knock on their door!

New reply: I've now had this beer. It cost a pretty penny but it was delicious. The 12 is very high alcohol content and is certainly a true trappist but it tastes fairly clean and is easy to drink. The beer is most similar to delirium nocturnum. It's not as complex as something like Rochefort 10 or St. Bernadus Abt 12. I was most surprised by how drinkable it was. It was refreshing, crisp, clean, yet still with the depth of a true Belgian trappist. Even as a beer snob there are beers that I can barely drink more than 6 oz of without struggling through. The Westvleteren 12 is delicious from first sip to last.

Adding to the list: Hyderabad-style biryani (usually goat or lamb, but I think chicken actually works better), assorted fish curries, spicy skin-on aloo ki bhujia, and all the various vegetables that nobody else in the world seems to know how to cook properly. Fresh samosas. Decent dal. Egg curry. Another kind of egg curry. Thick, tangy yogurt with the cream layer, to be eaten with rice and pickle.

I think I'm going to have to do some cooking this weekend.

Mmm, egg curry and dosa and sambar and paratha and chaat and... curse you all. >_<

Unrelatedly, I had already planned on egg curry next week with a couple friends. So partly yay?

I went to India for three months earlier this year, went to quite a few different areas and ate at all sorts of restaurants. For the most part, I didn't like the meat. The vegetarian options outnumbered the meat options in almost every place, and were usually delicious. Strangely, I didn't see much saag paneer, but I did see a lot of palak paneer. Whilst in Calcutta I ate about two kati rolls a day. God they were good.

I just watched 3 Idiots yesterday, and now I can't get the idea the names of Gujarati food sounding like dangerous missiles out of my head.

I am named Chuff, but I totes didn't notice this at all until now. I'd love 'em, although I'm at school without a kitchen. I'll try them out at home at some point.

Palak (spinach) is a kind of saag (greens).

Aha. At all the Indian / Pakistani restaurants here in London they tend to list Saag rather than Palak. So, I had to ask someone what Palak Paneer was.

Shro: I can't remember the names of any of the Gujurati dishes I tried in Ahmedabad but they were all pretty awesome. Like Bengali food, they were a bit gentler than Rajasthani food.

EDIT: ooh I can remember one: Jalebi - a sticky, sweet dessert. Is that Gujurati?

Jalebi is pretty much a nationwide thing.

And NOTHING beats the Jalebi you get from India. The stuff they sell is a sad, dry excuse.
