Flaming intellectual tentacled locus, ...much lurks within!

Postby Elvish Pillager » Tue Aug 19, 2008 10:56 pm UTC

EDIT: This thread was about my old website. My new website is at elidupree.com , although a bunch of my cool stuff is still only on the old website. At least, assuming I haven't changed that since last time I updated this post.

:o My website :o

The biggest part is the artistic-stuff section. Drawings, music recordings, and short stories.

Enjoy. :)

A new short story is up! Link for the lazy.

It's the one marked with a κ (kappa) on the stories page.

Four new musical recordings on this page.

I'm still hoping to get some response :P

Also, I found this lying around on my website. I'm sure it means something:

While I was bored the other day, I remembered the little game Slime Lightsaber Duel that I wrote a while ago. I think some of you might enjoy it. :P

At 266 views per post (counting this one,) this thread is solidly in the lead over all other threads on the first page of this forum. I wouldn't mind much having my lead compromised. :P

Added to my website:
  • Two new stories: δ, χ.
  • A link to a YouTube recording of a partially improvised musical/poetic performance that I called Eli Dupree's Magical Mystery Show.

Overall, your site caused interest, despite the fact that I had to open the short stories in wordpad to be able to read them, though the overall quality seemed to only be an interlude to better work. The stories i read had some gems of great ideas, but were dissapointing due to a lack of skill. But I am sure that you can gain some with the hours that you are putting in, so good job! I would suggest practicing with 3rd POV or multiple 1st POV, but most importantly, using descriptive words. All of the stories suffered to some point or another in telling (not showing). showing helps get inside character's heads and creating a world inside the reader's heads. You have all the time in the world to create a specific style, but only after you have the range to decide on a style. (I was told this by my figure drawing teacher but I think it applies to other forms of art also). So practice writing in different styles, even if it does not seem fun.(I liked the fire one best, I thought it had the best character development, and was really the only one where I actually cared about the characters)
And the drawings were pretty good,I especially liked the shelf with the bottles on it, it had a good range of tonal values. So keep up with it. :) Also the short stories page I did not find very intuitive, perhaps because I didn't actually read the explanation before clicking on links, which was dumb of me, but maybe a small icon would work better than a greek letter in this case, even an icon of a greek letter, cause on my browser all i see are I^ I+ I>> and it makes it difficult to distinguish them.
So, I liked it :D

Thanks!

When you say "the fire one" - do you mean "The Ice-Dance" or "Heroes and Villains"? Both of them have important fires in them. If the former, then ironically, you not only like best one of the drawings I'm less satisfied with, but also the story of mine that I personally like least! Of course, that would jive with your characterization of my stories - we clearly have different tastes.

When you say "different styles," what range of differences are you covering? Different perspectives, more/less descriptive, what else? (Do note that four of the stories are written in third person.)

Incidentally, the Greek letters should display properly now.

Also: Lots of new drawings! http://eli.cedarswampstudios.org/drawings
