Your Favorite Workout Songs

Postby Masuri » Tue Feb 19, 2008 9:02 pm UTC

I have an annoyingly upbeat workout mix for my iPod, but I am always looking for more music to add. I thought maybe we could share some ideas - we don't all like the same kinds of music but anything with a driving beat works for me.

So! I figure I'll post a few of the songs that are on my annoying list that work the best for me:

Destroy She Said by Circ
Sandstorm by Darude
Everything is Alright by Motion City Soundtrack

(I debated between the Music forum and the Fit Club, but because this is solely in aid of getting my fat ass moving, I decided to place it here. Do as ye will with it!)

Sandstorm by Darude
James Brown is Dead by LA Style
American Idiot by Green Day

There are plenty more, but I can't think of them now.

Various songs and artists I listen to whilst excercising.

Atlas - Battles
God is on the Radio - Queens of the Stone age
Midnight Juggernaughts
The Presets
Vengoose Album by Daft Punk

I find music which is repetitive to work best while running because it sets my brain into a repetitive pattern.

New Order- Blue Mondays was my elliptical trainer song, back in the day. I'd just put it on a loop for an hour, the pace was perfect.
"Some people need a red carpet rolled out in front of them in order to walk forward into friendship. They can't see the tiny outstretched hands all around them, everywhere, like leaves on trees."

if i'm running or something, i'll listen to something resembling dance music.
kmfdm is usually involved.

sometimes i listen to just whatever's on my player on shuffle, though. i gravitate towards the dance stuff, but it doesn't matter that much.

when i'm parkouring or climbing trees or something, i tend to go without music because i worry that i'll get the headphone cord hooked on things.

edit: i have head headphones explode when the cord was pulled to hard before. it got caught on a doorknob and they shattered, sending peices all over the hall and down my shirt.

Having been a fan of Body Pump during my last period of gym membership, I've developed a fondness for:
Pump It by the Black Eyed Peas
Wonderful Life by Tina Cousins
I Like the Way by the Bodyrockers
From Paris to Berlin by Infernal
Satisfaction by Benny Benassi
Every Time We Touch by Cascada

Which are totally not the sort of music I usually listen to. Apart from those, my running playlist is mostly classical/operatic atm. Once I unpack my CD collection, I shall add to that.

Wow! Why did no one tell me this sub forum existed? I'm excited :D

If you're doing aerobics-style workout, nothing beats "It's Raining Men" by Geri Halliwell. I teach aquafit, so sometimes that's pretty much what I'm wearing when I'm using this song :P

If you're doing something more hardcore, "Remember the Name" by Fort Minor keeps you going. I found this video, and went to a parkour workshop that these guys put on. It's a great running song.

Edit:

my workout is usually kickboxing/sparring, so basically any rock song with a good beat. My current CD that I contribute to the collection usually ends up getting put at Boston - Foreplay/Long time, Styx - Renegade, or the Hollies - Long Cool Woman.

(it's a target mix cd, but I can't remember the exact title and can't find it on their site)

I have a couple of songs I listen to that help increase my adrenaline during workouts.

Mein Herz Brennt by Rammstein- German industrial metal; might not be so great for non-German speakers
Ladies and Gentlemen by Salive- It was on the PS3 commercials but it's still a good song
Revenga by System of a Down
Get Over It by OK Go- much better than the song where they dance on the treadmills
Should horses be represented in the Senate? Nay.

I've looped Collective Soul's Run when I go out for a jog.
Who are you and who am I
To say we know the reason why?
Some are born; some men die
Beneath one infinite sky.
There'll be war, there'll be peace.
But everything one day will cease.
All the iron turned to rust;
All the proud men turned to dust.

Almost any montage song will work:

Live to win - Paul Stanley, as featured on South Park

Push it to the Limit - Blanking on the artist right now, but it's the original one.
*waggles eyebrows*

God I wish the second one had been the Strong Bad song.

"My Humps" is Black Eyed Peas? I thought it was some random R&B chick. (this covers every female R&B artist, by the way. I don't listen to it, so it all pretty much sounds the same to me.)

Fergie, the "random R&B chick", is a singer in Black Eyed Peas as well as an artist in her own name.

But the real question is did she do this song with or without the other peas? And is her name actually Sara(h?) Ferguson?

With the other peas, and her name is actually Stacy Ann Ferguson.

No, she goes by Stacy. You were just wrong :P Like in Fergalicious she sings "They always claim they know me, comin' to me, call me Stacy."
